The Girl With Curious Hair - David Foster Wallace

Also, noone seems to read the ancient classics anymore. Until recently I was guilty of this, but have stacked up on The Iliad and The Aeneid, having devoured The Odyssey and Metamorphoses. These books are unbelievably good, and my Uni has stopped running a Classics degree. This must be stopped!

Asylum for the Queen by Mildred Jordan. Found it in an antique shop when I was living in Virginia. Apparently no one's ever heard of it...from the little bit I've read (I've been in the process of reading it since 2004! lol) it's really good. It's set during the French Revolution about a guy who's close to Queen Marie Antoinette.

I don't know if this has been mentioned yet but I've recently read The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins and the sequel Catching Fire. Both are good books but no one I've mentioned them to has heard of them, even though Stephenie Meyer has promoted it on her website and the first one is being turned into a film. In fact, if I talk about them I think my friend stops listening This is the first series that I've not met anyone who's read it and I've had to turn straight to the internet

It's a pity this thread hasn't had any traffic for so long. It's a very interesting topic...

People usually look puzzled when I mention how much I liked The Second World War by Winston Churchill. And many of them don't know who Chesterton was, so better not to mention The Man Who Was Thursday.

Madrid, March 11th, 2004. WHO DID IT?
