Speaking of Murphy, I wonder if Jim will ever publish Hawaii, the short story about Murphy and Kincaid's trip (during Dead Beat). I always wondered how she broke her arm...
Spoiler: show
Aftermath will be?

No, it is a different story. Jim had mentioned working on it, but there was no definite answer as to when/if it would be published. I am just nosy about the characters!

Re: Dresden Files (Jim Butcher) 2.0

Is there some reason why "Side Jobs" isn't available in book stores, and only available online?

Frustrating.

It's not out yet (Nov 5th). Amazon et cetera are only on the pre-order phase. Waterstones has it on pre-order at £7.99 (Which I may take them up on thanks to there being one just down the road... Christ my reading list is getting long...)

I'll be buying this the first of next month. I want to buy it now, but I haven't any money in my checking account to pay Amazon.com yet.

Aftermath was the best thing I've ever read from Butcher. You can really see how his writing has matured.

Yup. Right now I'm sitting stunned at home after reading it, too. Admitted I hadn't too big expectations plotwise, so I'm feeling more than satisfied both by quantity and quality of Aftermath. But as I came home late today, I need some sleep before I've made my mind up for some decent theories on future events.

Spoiler: show
What I already know is that I loved seeing so many 'adventures' revisited by Murph, so many people we know met, as also reasons pro / contra the sword of faith from her pov. The Martian also was a need joke, even if repeated quite often since it's just to ture.

Aftermath was incredible. I agree that you can totally see Jim's evolution as an author, and it is just incredible. I loved his author's notes at the beginning of each story too. Karrin had so much grace under pressure, but we got to see her scared too, I loved that. I am really excited to see how she gets people to work together to pick up where Harry left off.

Thank you Jim for giving us this amazing anthology. It was the prefect way to tide us over until the next book!

Re: Dresden Files (Jim Butcher) 2.0

Order it from a US publisher. You'll probably receive it faster.

No. Not kidding...

Curiosuly enough, the big book sellers, Borders and Barnes and Nobles are the ones that aren't selling it in their respective stores. The recently opened Books-A-Million however...thanks.

Spoiler: show
Definitely. Harry's friends picking up on where he left (as also, partly, trusting in he'll come back) is where one already feels how touched Harry will be later on. I was not at all looking forward a complicated book where Harry basically has to find his way as how to act as something (probably still hunted) like a ghost, but now I'm looking forward it much more.

Re: Dresden Files (Jim Butcher) 2.0

I was studiously avoiding this thread until I managed to get Aftermath Finished.

Spoiler: show
Well worth it. Not at all what I expected, though. In reading several of his short stories I've noticed he puts hints and / or foreshadowing into the short stories, so it'll be interesting to see whether Murphy does work for Monoc or whether that sorcerer's group comes back again.

Also notable: it only appeared to eliminate one candidate for "whodunit" (Marcone). I'm right now thinking either Fix (Titania's orders) or Kincaid (contract TBD or Ivy, though I don't see what Ivy's motivation would be other than to release him from the Winter Knight obligation.

Another possibility is that there was a "if I'm killed, kill Dresden" from someone in the Red Court.

Kincaid is my fave guess for the shooter from the start, but I'm still quite clueless about the who's behind. I too don't think Ivy could have had any motivation - for particular since she's neutral, for the most part. I like your idea about a possible Red Court deal, although these seemed to have felt too save that they finally got Dresden. Or McCoy for that matter.

I've always thought it was Kincaid who did the shooting, working on someone's orders, of course (no idea whose). But I like your idea about the Red Court. Hadn't considered that.

Chris, great thought about the Red Court. And I think we all have our eyes on Kincaid right now. Including Murphy it sounded like.

Oooh, nice! Thanks for linking to that one.

Spoiler: show
Not sure whether I got that right because I still sometimes struggle to understand spoken English; did he say Harry will led a gang of ghosts or be hunted by one?
I like this bit a lot. We long thought Harry must come back as ghost, but it's nice to actually get that one confirmed besides the rather obvious title. After Aftermath I was already sure I'm going to love to read the bits about Harry observing what his friends are going to do.
