Dresden Files (Jim Butcher) 2.0

You've no idea how tempting it is at this point - in August 2010 - to simply call this second instalment of our Dresden discussion
Spoiler: show
ghost story.
Either way...

Welcome to the second edition of the Dresden Files discussion on CoS!

We're at twelve instalments of the Dresden files at this point, all of them focussing around the adult wizard called Harry. As it seems, Jim Butcher is still planning around twenty+ books.

book list, #1-13:

  1. Storm Front
2. Full Moon
3. Grave Peril
4. Summer Knight
5. Death Masks
6. Blood Rites
7. Dead Beat
8. Proven Guilty
9. White Night
10. Small Favor
11. Turn Coat
12. Changes
13. Ghost Story (not yet released)

No stern rules, but worked good so far:
Please keep speculations about the latest book under a cut. Some of us hadn't yet have the opportunity to catch up.
Discussion of the short stories runs by the same fair approach. Some of those just aren't available in the countries some of your fellow discussion partners come from.

Feel free to check out the original thread for our past glorious speculation about future events in the series.

Re: Dresden Files (Jim Butcher) 2.0

I am confused.
Spoiler: show
I read in the previous thread that the 13th book is called Ghost Story, but I also read in the previous thread that the next book is called Aftermath, to be released in October.

Re: Dresden Files (Jim Butcher) 2.0

Yay new thread!

I recently finished Turn Coat a few days ago. Just in case...
Spoiler: show
Let me say I loved the whole genus loci concept. I'm really wondering if Thomas is going to be alright, and if the skinwalker will make another appearance in a later book, since they didn't kill it. Interesting that the traitor was Peabody. I knew it had to be someone we'd been introduced to, since it's more dramatic that way. I have to say I was sad that Morgan died, I (and Harry I think) was beginning to warm up to him. At least he died a heroic death taking out the bad guy. But I have to wonder where Cowl fits into all of this. I feel like we'll see him again. I can't wait to get my hands on Changes!

Re: Dresden Files (Jim Butcher) 2.0

(Finally) got and read Changes last night.

Well.

Not a lot you can say to that, is there?
Spoiler: show

Except that it's a game changer on an epic scale. Poor... well, just about everything Dresden's owned actually..

I think that one might be my favorite. I need to read them all again just to be sure, but I really loved that one and was totally engrossed in it.

Turn Coat was DEFINITELY my favorite so far. Changes had my absolute favorite ending, but Turn Coat was just all around good.

Same here for me v8. Turn Coat was the best writing wise, but the best ending was in Changes. And I didn't mind the X-Files/Mulder nods in it either .

Changes had the best ending by far. I feel like the two are fairly similar, except Turn Coat more tense and Changes more emotional.

Changes had an ending that would've made me throw the book across the room if I hadn't been reading it on Kindle. And I mean that in a good way.

By the way, do you mean the killing Susan ending or the Harry dying ending? Since personally, I meant the killing Susan part.

Both for me. It was shocking to see what happened to Susan, and Harry dying truly threw me for a loop ...

I meant the Harry dying ending. I unintentionally spoiled myself on the Susan dying part, so I was expecting it. The Harry thing took me by surprise.

The whole book shocked me! From the first sentence with Maggie's existence to Thomas & Molly, Odin, the Winter Knight, grandpa McCoy, Susan and Harry dying. I can't even list everything else. I have complete faith that Jim will be taking this series somewhere spectacular!

Re: Dresden Files (Jim Butcher) 2.0

Spoiler: show
Well, I feel like the entire thing was shocking, but come on, it's Jim, and it's Harry, what else could I expect? Reading Dresden Files is more about HOW I'll be shocked whether than IF I'll be shocked. However, I didn't expect Jim to kill Harry, you know? And not even during some supernatural battle, but afterward, and by a gunman.

And . Remember how in Turn Coat, Harry predicted he wouldn't go out in style? Well, he goes out after he loses pretty much everything and his house is reduced to a small old boat. Well, he was right.

Yep. And then I don't think we already saw that he 'died doing the right thing'. This one seems to still lay ahead.

Here's someone looking a lot forward the short stories too, mostly because I never managed to order many of them in past.
