Re: Darren Shan

I have read most of Darren's books and I love them. But for some reason I am losing interest a little, I feel that I've grown out of them. Strange.

That's weird! I was just thinking that last night when reading Blood Beast - it didn't interest me as much as the others had before. I think I've pretty much grown out of them now

Re: Darren Shan

Darren Shan is the only other series I loved and enjoyed reading. Harry Potter of course, comes first, but I did love Darren Shan.
I haven't read his Demonata saga yet, but I hear it's pretty good

"Oh, very good," interrupted Snape, his lip curling. "Yes, it is easy to see that nearly six years of magical education have not been wasted on you, Potter. 'Ghosts are transparent.'"

Re: Darren Shan

I read the Darren Shan Cirque Du Freak books as they came out, from one to twelve. It was, officially, the longest wait of my life. Getting from one to twelve took years, but it was such a great thing to do.

I won a Demonata jumper on his website at one stage, signed by him and all, and I've met him once or twice. Lovely guy altogether. I still have the jumper!

If you've finished the books and want a bit extra, and I don't want to sound like an advertisement here, but Darren has posted extras on his website. There's a great Shanta Claus story published on it only around Christmas. Well worth a look.

I love Shan because he's so clever with everything he writes. It's awesome how everything seemingly small and silly just adds together by the end. I won't give anything away, but wow, it's fantastic.

I owe him my love of vampires (along with Stoker!), and I also owe him, in part, my username!

Re: Darren Shan

Actually, I've been reading about the movie. John C McGinley? Is it him playing Larten Crepsley?
I don't think he looks like my favourite character within that series, but I'm willing to stay open minded about it so far at least.

Where will he be in 31 days? I don't keep track anymore, as such...

Re: Darren Shan

The movie sorta sucked. I mean, Darren was geeky looking, there was no monkey girl that he got with or anything. *sigh* It sucked.

Anyways, me loved the books. I read the whole of the Vampire Saga, up to no.9 of the Demonata and I've read the first Larten Crepsley book too.

Re: Darren Shan

I'm surprised that this thread isn't that popular.... I thought the Cirque Du Freak series is very good, much better than Twilight if you're comparing those vampires and the story.

I'd recommend it if you want a vampire series that is not so lovey dovey.

Re: Darren Shan

Darren Shan's book are a great one-time quick read in my opinion - they didn't really have a lasting appeal to me except for the City trilogy. (Though I didn't read the new editions or the last book yet - I actually managed to track down the old ones one eBay a while ago, and when I brought Ayuamarca to a signing Darren was so surprised! ) I love the gutsy horror scenes, but after the end of the vampire series, the end of Demonata seemed like a repeat - and also kind of a cop-out.

Re: Darren Shan

I picked up the Cirque Du Freak series because there was nothing else in the library that interested me.

I regret that I had not picked them up earlier! They are really engrossing!

I had to stop after I think the 6th one for awhile - the summary for the twelfth book scared me badly. I did finish, and should get around to reading the prequel series.
