Darren Shan

A wonderful fantasy/horror writer! He's written the Darren Shan series and the Demonata series. I'm up to about the sixth book in the Darren Shan series, and I'm just about to begin reading Blood Beast from the Demonata series.

Does anyone else here absolutely love him?! I'm generally not into horror, but he describes things so well and the gore is great! Also, I always find that there is an underlying, dark humour and I love it. He really is an awesome author.

If you've never heard of him before, check this out.

I love them. The Darren Shan series is better than the Demonata series, in my opinion.

Re: Darren Shan

i haven't read demonata yet, but i absolutely love darren shan. he's not so much horror as suspense and good old-fashioned storytelling mixed with a bit of grossness. which is why i love them!

Yeah, I agree. It isn't really horror, it's just that some of the things he describes are so gross! I'd definitely recommend the Demonata series, and I prefer it to the Darren Shan series because each book is from the point of view of a different person (although Grubbs has narrated about 3 of the books), and they are all set in different eras. I really love them

Re: Darren Shan

I haven't gotten into the Demonata yet, but I hope so. The Darren Shan series was really, really good. He's an awesome writer. I totally called Steve being the Vampaneze Lord the minute Mr. Crepsley mentioned that he had been found...of course, Shan kept me second-guessing until Steve actually admitted it, but that's okay.

Noooo! Lord Loss is a brilliantly written character! It's just me being wierd, I adore villains, dunno why! I just find Lord Loss the most interesting character!

Grubbs is very good tho! I still prefer Lord Loss and Dervish!

AND, Blood Beast is very good! My fave out of all of them to date is Slawter, that is amazing!

Re: Darren Shan

I'll have to think about reading these books.

Specially as Anthony Horowitz mentioned him in his lastest blog.

Actually i've heard of him before and seen some of his books but never bothered picking them up so guess i'll have to go to the library, get one of them and see if they're worth my time

OMG! I knew it was only a matter of time before they made it into a movie. The guy playing Darren looks really good. I'm excited!

Re: Darren Shan

I wonder how they're going to break the books down into a/several movie/movies, though.

Re: Darren Shan

I first picked up a CDF book about 8 years ago if not longer. Im a huge fan and love the series as much if not more than HP. A movie is supposed to release early next year that covers the first 3 books of the CDF series, but the cast just doesnt seem right(The character Debby, got a name change to Rebecca). We'll have to wait and see.

Re: Darren Shan

Truthfully I prefer his Darren Shan series. It has a bit more depth to it. Also the characters in the Demonata seem to cold and seem to have shallower emotions.

I'm like on the 11th or 10th book in the Cirque Du Freak chronicles, I NEED to read his other series, he's an excellent writer!

OMG. They are making a movie!!!!!!! Whooo!! It's called Cirque Du Freak! Josh Hutcherson is playing Steve & this kid named Chris Massoglia (??? don't know who he is) is playing Darren. (:
