Re: Are we too old for Harry Potter?

I conviced my Grandma to read them and she LOVED them - shes 65!

I'm 19, OBSESSED with Harry Potter and I'm positive that that'll remain the same until I die.
I told my mom once that I want to die warm in my bed, eating a delicious meal and reading Harry Potter.

Re: Are we too old for Harry Potter?

I started reading the series when I was 10, right before the first movie came out, now I’m 19 and I’m still in love with the series. In fact, my whole family loves the series. Also, while I was in the theatre watching Harry Potter DH2 I noticed that most of the people there were actually adults. So with that being said, I don't really think there is a specific age group for Harry Potter

23... been coming here for five years... I never get tired of debating Snape, Sirius and Lupin. Wildly still in love with them. Still tear up for Sirius' death... nah you are never too old to do things that give you pleasure

Re: Are we too old for Harry Potter?

I'm 21 and the books still captivate me the same way as when I first read them. I honestly wouldn't care if my preference for reading was still Thomas the Tank Engine, personal enjoyment comes before perceived age boundaries.

Re: Are we too old for Harry Potter?

25 and still into it, since I was 12 !!!

Also convinced my parents, grandparents to read it, they love it also!!!

You can never be to old for something, as long as you have passion for it! There is no embarrasing thing if you have a hobby or feel good/happy about doing/enjoy something you love

When I became a man I put away childish things, including the fear of childishness and the desire to be very grown up.

There's not an age for Harry Potter, anyone can read it. The other day my father told me he wanted to start reading Harry Potter. He's 54.

Re: Are we too old for Harry Potter?

I don't think it's question of being too old, more like if you're too young. The last 3 books are no laughing matter and are pretty graphic at times and because of that I think kids under say 5 shouldn't be around the later books in the series. So in my 29 years old opinion I don't think it's being too old to love a story about bravery, courage, love, and perseverance. Just like in the story, it's not whats happens to us that defines who we are it's the choices we make.

Re: Are we too old for Harry Potter?

OK a lot of the fans have grown up with the series and are now in their 20's. So these guys aren't too old even to still dress up and go to conventions and throw HP parties. They are the majority of the fandom and as long as they feel comfortable doing it, it'll be cool.

I do have a question, though: Who is too old for that aspect of the fandom? Obviously, a good story will always be a pleasure to read, at any age. But when does it get too late to obssess about something? To read all the articles, watch all the interviews, to follow the actors' new carreers, to listen to the podcasts, to own a wand...

Re: Are we too old for Harry Potter?

My brother is 12 and he thinks he is to young to read the books even though i was reading them at his age i gave him my copy of The Deathly Hallows and he loves it.

Besides there's no age limit on reading.

To me it is escapisam and also these books are the only ones my kids have actually been eager to read. They are so well written any age can enjoy them. If they get people reading instead of watching television, that is not a bad thing ? Dont you agree !
I'm 37, my best friend is turning 39, and my mom is 64... we all love Harry Potter, have read all the books, and have watched all the movies. You're never too old to enjoy a well written book

Re: Are we too old for Harry Potter?

I'm only 16, but sometimes I'm embarrassed to tell people I like Harry Potter. Not because I think that I am too old for it, but because I am afraid that they will think so.
If I didn't care so much about what people think, though, I wouldn't be embarrassed.

Re: Are we too old for Harry Potter?

I have been told that I'm too old for Harry Potter (I'm 30), but only by people who don't know anything about the series. To me, the series has no age limit because it speaks of things that are central to the whole human experience. Love, grief, friendship, loyalty, prejudice, ignorance, cruelty, loss... every human on Earth has experienced these things and many of us have been at a loss as to what to do with these experiences and emotions. We go through all of these things with Harry and how he deals with them recall our own trials. I lost my father suddenly and violently shortly before I discovered the Harry Potter novels and, although he is fictional, it felt like having a friend to go through the worst time of my life with me.

So, no, I don't think it's possible to be too old for Harry Potter.

Re: Are we too old for Harry Potter?

Too old? Never!

I started reading the books when I was 9 (my whole class had too) and I still love the series today! A lot of the people I knew from back then still love it as well! I think age just allows one to view the material from a different, and more mature perspective!

Even my Grandmother loved the series, and I remember her watching and re-watching the first film with my brother and I about 10 years ago. She would read the books too! Unfortunately, because of cancer, she wasn't given enough time on this world to finish reading all of them.

No, not too old. But I don't know many folks my age range who even truly appreciate them for what they are. I wish!

Re: Are we too old for Harry Potter?

I definitely don't think I'm too old for HP! It's the book series I grew up with....if anything, knowing that it's over makes me feel old, lol! My friends and I will probably always love the series. You like what you like - no shame in it!

Re: Are we too old for Harry Potter?

Isn't that the magic of Harry Potter? Nobody is too old for it.

I got my mother into the series once the final book was out and she loves it. She didn't "grow up" with the series but still saw the charm in the first couple books and then the quite mature story line in the later books. I think that's one reason HP is so successful, it really does appeal to all ages.

Adults are just children who happen to pay bills anyway.

Re: Are we too old for Harry Potter?

Never too old for HP!! I'm 22 next month and started them when I was 10. These are the books that made me fall in love with reading and discover some of my other favourite authors and books. My mum's reading HP for the first time and she's 43
