Re: Pottermore v.10

Regarding the number of total possible questions for the Sorting process:

Spoiler: show
I don't think there are really 150 to 200 possible questions. Not yet, at least. I've been spending a lot of time reading about what people were asked, checking lots of different sources, and it seems like there have been around 30 or so questions leaked so far. Anyone else think new questions will appear once the site goes public? Sorry if this has already been speculated/discussed.

Re: Pottermore v.10

I think that Pottermore had an unforeseen amount of problems, which is why the welcome emails have slowed and probably stopped. Why let more people in if most of the site needs repair? I was let in in the first batch in mid-August, but I've seen no improvement since. The potions loop is still there, the dueling is still down and there is still no way to communicate effectively with or within Pottermore. I have to admit that once I finished the first book and read all the extra bits, I have only logged in for a few minutes to see if my comments from two weeks ago got approved...otherwise, I have to say it's a bit, well, boring.

Hallowsword210, there was a long discussion about the sorting quiz in the previous Pottermore thread on pages 40-50 or so. Couldn't post actual questions, but it was discussed the 'how' & speculation on how the scoring was done.

How do you see if your comments got approved? I can't imagine you would actually scroll through pages and pages of comments to see if yours has popped up! Do you get notifications? Because if that's the case, 0% of my comments have been approved.

That's the exact problem I have with it: there haven't been any significant improvements. I've been on Pottermore for about three weeks now, and the only things they've changed is being able to remove all your notifications and how many house points you get when you brew potions.

I'm really starting to think that it won't be ready when it's released to everyone. If it's having problems with 300,000 people on, what's it going to be like when millions of people have joined? I just envisage them opening it and it crashing instantly. I think they've under estimated the interest in it.

And the potions loop glitch is the bane of my life!

I was able to brew the Sleeping Draught earlier today, but the only times I personally have problems with Pottermore potions are on days beginning with the letter S.

Lots of people here reporting glitches today, but I have made 2 successfully and one where it failed me for ingredient in the wrong container, which was untrue.

Yes, you get a notification in the same place you get friend requests.

That is only for comments that are "under moderation." Some comments go straight through, I believe.

95% of my comments have been "under moderation" and 0 of those have been approved! I certainly did not say anything offensive that should have been not posted. My frustration with Pottermore grows with each passing day!

On a Potions note...
Spoiler: show
I just started brewing my first REAL potion!! (Herbicide) Finally, after a week of being terrified to do it and not having enough time! But, I definitely spilled some lionfish spines before they made it in the cauldron. And then I spilled a couple more after I tried to put back the bottle. Right now the potion is brewing, but does this mean I'm just going to get a failed result later?

No, I don't think so. It seems to me that you either pass or fail the first part of a potion right when you finish the first part. Then after the waiting period you either fail or pass the second part (including whether you came back in time).

Re: Pottermore v.10

Spoiler: show
Well that was a massive failure. I waited a whole 95 minutes just to accidentally dump too much horklump juice into the cauldron. That was impossible to control!!

Those bottles are difficult to control until you get a little practice. I would recommend trying Wideye or Awakening Potion to practice with before going back to Herbicide. The ingredients are mostly free (find 2 at Hagrid's Hut) and the other one is fairly cheap. In addition, the steps after brewing are really simple, so if you get past the waiting period you are almost guaranteed success
.

Re: Pottermore v.10

Spoiler: show
The bottles are a bit easier to control if you pick them up by the top/lid and tip them gently into the cauldron/mortar. Actually, I've found it's harder to tip them into the mortar and have had to start over several times due to putting too much in (luckily this happened before the waiting period). If you go slow it's usually easier to control too.

On the comments: I just received a notification yesterday that my comment had been approved. I don't remember when I posted that comment, but I'm pretty sure it was over 2 1/2 weeks ago. I also saw a comment in the Great Hall yesterday saying something like "20 years ago today, Harry was getting sorted", which means that was probably posted on 9/1 and first got approved on 9/18, approximately 17 days later.

On Potions:
Spoiler: show
If you were going to fail, they would have said it before the potion started brewing. It should be good unless you mess up in the second part (or Pottermore's counters lie to you (which has definitely happened to me).

I definitely agree!

Spoiler: show
Wideye's second part is easy - 2 sprigs of Wolfsbane to the cauldron and then stir 3 times counter clockwise. And plenty of time to do it in. Plus, you get 9 points for it. It's also the least expensive. I'd do nothing but this potion if i didn't get bored with it from doing it so often

Re: Pottermore v.10

Hmm, looks I tried to brew the hardest potion on my first try then.
Spoiler: show
I tried the Wideye, as per everyone's suggestion, and failed miserably once again. As I was attempting to leave my cauldron on medium heat for 30 seconds, I ran out of time!! Seriously?! This all seems really impossible to me and I'm getting really frustrated!

Holy cow... I just tried again and finished the first part JUST IN TIME!!... my palms are sweating... this is so stressful!!!

I'm a spaz.

It is stressful at first.
Spoiler: show
I have done the same few potions repeatedly (the cheaper ones), but now I'm trying some others and it is hard at first with each new one.
This guide someone here posted a link to a while ago is very helpful:
https://docs.google.com/viewer?a=v&p...Jk&hl=en&pli=1
You can identify the ingredients and review the instructions in advance.
