Re: Is it weird to have a crush on a fictional character?

I have a few...mostly from HP.

Sirius has got to be my biggest fictional crush. He's just lovely in every way.
I also find Harry, Remus, James, Regulus, Ron, and Draco very attractive.

I have a super fictional crush on Peeta from The Hunger games trilogy! He's just...gah! Perfection. Gale's nice too

I have crushes on both Jace and Simon from City of Glass, and it's perfectly normal, any avid reader has them.

Crushing on a fictional character offers safety. No need to worry if your crush will like you back or will embarrass you. I think it's an outlet like all daydreaming is.

I think it shows good character. When you have a crush on a fictional character, chances are you are interested in who they are - their personality, their values... it goes beyond celebrity or shallow crushes.

Weird? Perhaps slightly, but I think nerdy is a better word for it :-P. I think it happens because you know someonse thoughts, something you will never have with real people. I think fictional crushes are usually far less superficial than real crushes, because it's usually not about looks, but about personality. I've had a slight crush on Seshru from the COAD series, because she's really some form of a femme fatale, very sexy indeed. Thiazzi, another villian from the same series, was rather attractive (In personality) too, but old, too old :-P. And of course Riddle, I have always had a huge crush on him ever since I first read CoS. *Sight* why are my fictional crushes always freaking psychopaths? (OK, I can answer that one myself too. It's probably because I'm the same way.)

Re: Is it weird to have a crush on a fictional character?

If it is weird, then I justify it to myself by transferring that crush to the actor/actress who portrays said character in a TV or film adaption seriously though, I think it's probably the sign of a good character if they're so believeable that you develop a crush on them. People dream up their ideal partner all the time, somebody who doesn't necessarily exist, but who is their ideal match, so I think crushing on a fictional character is probably quite similar. Just like being able to relate to a character, I think most people have found a character they can relate to, or a character that particularly stands out for them do a crush isn't too dissimilar.

It happens. The way i see it it's better to have a crush on fictional character that some1 made up, than having a crush on real person that you idolized.

it definitely isn't weird. I have a crush on Harry Potter and two guys from my favorite TV show. I also have a GIGANTIC crush on Daniel Radcliffe. I want to go see "How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying" just to see him! . It really isn't very weird because the character could have certain qualities you like.

Not weird at all! I mean there's Peeta and Finnick in the Hunger Games. And Ron in HP. There's so many more...It's not uncommon for me to have a crush on a character when reading any book.

No

Most crushes are based on fictional traits anyway.

It's different to love a fictional character, than a real human. Two different kinds of love, but both just as strong. But it's much different.
I agree with that. You can daydream on a fictional character without risking having your heart broken, like you might if you were pinning your dreams on a real life person. In case of married people, crushes on book characters are no threat to your marriage!

I have a total crush on Inspector Thomas Lynley, aka the Eighth Earl of Asherton - as he is in the Elizabeth George books, not the TV series. And if I have a son someday, I'd like him to be just like Cedric Diggory. There too, the book character, but it wouldn't hurt if he also looked like Robert Pattinson!
