Re: Favorite non-Hp book #2

The Bartimaeus trilogy was so good.Inkspell is EXCELLENT.The characters particularly Farid and Dustfinger have more impact on me than Sirius had.As a proof,I only shed a few of tears when Sirius died but(SPOILER) when Farid and Dustfinger died,I cried helplessly.Stravaganza was good.Lionboy is okay, too.I'm about to read the last book. I LOVED BOOKS.Recommendations, anyone? But I hate LOTR,don't ask me why.I heard that Flush by Carl Hiaasen was kinda good.Small Steps by Louis Sachar?

Re: Favorite non-Hp book #2

i enjoyed lord of the rings. but i think i'm a bigger fan of stephen king's works. they're brilliant! i especially enjoyed 'salem's lot (about modern day vampires) and the green mile, which was made into a movie.

Re: Favorite non-Hp book #2

I loved all three Lord of the Rings books and I loved the hobbit.

I've also read Sabriel, Lireal and Abhorsen, they were really good as well. I've recently started reading The Lemony Snicket series and so far the books have been amazing.

Catcher in the Rye . . . but I also work for a book publishing company that just came out with a book called "Mapping the World of Harry Potter" which is a pretty awesome anthology!

The Secret Life of Bees by Sue Monk Kidd.
It was simply the most AMAZING book I've read in my whole entire life. It probably connects better with girls, though. Still. AMAZING writing.

Looking For Alibrandi and Saving Francesca by Melinda Marchetta.
I also like Sweet Guy by Jared Thomas.
Those are all teen fiction kind of books.

But I also like The Chronicles of Narnia books too.

Any books you would recommend?

I work at a library and I actually just got rid of this book personally, a bit ironic.

I really love A Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens and the Silmarillion by J.R.R. Tolkien. I had to read a Tale as a part of summer reading and it was one of the most moving books that I've ever read.

Re: Favorite non-Hp book #2

I recently read Memoirs of a Geisha by Arthur Golden. It was a wonderful book.

Austen's Pride and Prejudice is also great, as are many classic stories.

Catch-22, 1984, Macbeth (technically, it's a play) ... oh, too many! I'm not very genre-centred.

I own the entire Lord of the Rings set; I quite dislike the books. They do not capture my interest at all, which is saying something considering how much I love the movies. Tolkien's writing style just isn't engaging for me; I find myself struggling to read on/stay awake.

It's a tie between the LOTR trilogy and the Shannara series. I can't decide which I like better.
