Re: David Letterman Announces His Retirement from the Late Show

I'm hoping Craig Ferguson gets the slot. He's pretty good host wise, in my opinion .

Re: David Letterman Announces His Retirement from the Late Show

While it would be a good move financially, it would be a pity. The timeslot of The Late Late Show gives Ferguson a lot more freedom than he'd have in an earlier slot.

Good point, Wab. But he's still one good comedian and host. And an underrated one imo.

I really like Craig Ferguson as well, but agree with Wab. He'd have to be more constrained and I'd hate to see that happen. Purportedly Ferguson has a right of first refusal for the time slot, so it'll be his call on whether it would be worth it.

People assume that time is a strict progression of cause to effect, but actually from a non-linear, non-subjective viewpoint, it's more like a big ball of wibbly-wobbly, timey-wimey stuff...

....I miss David Tennant....

Yea it'll be interesting to see how this shakes out, Hedwig.

Who else would you guys want to see as host?

CBS has announced it's Colbert.

Heard about this, Colbert is a good choice. He's pretty dang funny . I hope he can do well for the Late Show.

Re: David Letterman Announces His Retirement from the Late Show

I'm glad it's not Craig Ferguson. I love his show, what little I have seen of it, and I agree that moving him to earlier in the day would constrain him somewhat.

Colbert seems like a good choice, although again, I don't really get to see a lot of him, or Letterman

Yea he's pretty funny. I wonder how people will react to him being himself though. It should be interesting, that's for sure .

Interesting for Colbert as well, puts him in a more vulnerable position in succeeding. It's one thing to be able to say "well, the public didn't like the character" and another when it's personal.

Rumour has it he was not happy to be passed over.

Don't blame him, if that way the case. He was always the bridesmaid, and never the bride. Truly a shame, since he was a really talented host and an underrated one at that.

Re: David Letterman Announces His Retirement from the Late Show

WHAT??? I don't get to see a lot of Craig Ferguson, as I've said before, but the Late, Late Show is excellent with him. I loved his whole episode interview with Stephen Fry. Now where am I going to see him?

Well, there's always that series one episode of Red Dwarf...

I wonder too - will be interesting to watch. Sad that if it fails he probably won't go back to The Colbert Report

Colbert is incredibly talented. He was on Broadway in Stephen Sondheim's Company, is smart and funny. I do wonder what tone he'll take with his real personality.

I for one will miss the Colbert Report - it's so on and smartly satirical, and it was lighter in a way than The Daily Show. Having him play the uber conservative host really allowed for commentary that the straight up Stewart can't cover. Oh well. Maybe someone will arise with a similar show before the next Presidential election.
