Re: Have you ever cried while reading a book

Not usually but I got teary-eyed with the current book I am reading What is the What. It's a true account of a Last Boy from Sudan. The part that got me was when during their march to Ethiopia the protagonists friend William K, wants to stop for a rest and he leaves him for a second under a tree and when he returns "my closer than brother friend William K, returned to the earth".

also some parts of Brothers Karamazov didn't make me cry, but made me pretty emotional.

The Book Theif. The book is a little bit sad at some points, but the end is just so terribly sad, and the way it is written doesn't make it any easier to accept, the style is really poignant. I'm pretty sure I haven't cried that much reading anything since I read DH.

Re: Have you ever cried while reading a book

The first time I cried while reading was when I read Sadako and the Thousand Paper Cranes as a kid. That book still haunts me and whenever I see an origami crane, I get a little misty eyed.

Re: Have you ever cried while reading a book

I've cried many times whilst reading a book. Some that come to mind at this moment are some of the books in the Harry Potter series (particularly Deathly Hallows), Nicholas Nickleby, A Thousand Splendid Suns, some of the books in the Anne of Green Gables series etc.

Re: Have you ever cried while reading a book

I have nearly cried a number of times I find myself ready to cry at the end of Harry Potter books only because they are over and there is no further to go.

I have felt intense anger many times I once became furious with Drizzit from the Dark Elf Series You see Wulfgar had just had a ceiling of rocks collapse on him while battling a yochal and it was possible he may have died I turned the page my mind and body tense with anticipation you all know the feeling. Anyway I turned the page and it was a monolog of Drizzit musing on his own death and the difference in life span between elves and mortals.
I swear I shouted NO! This is not your moment how dare you someone could be dying and you are hogging the spotlight I couldn't read for a few minutes because I needed to calm down.

Re: Have you ever cried while reading a book

I cried my eyes dry while reading DH for the first time. And I think everyone knows why^^ I'm very sensitive, so I guess it's no wonder I cried.

When I read DH, I cried when Hedwig, Fred and Dobby died. I was okay when Snape was killed...until I read the next chapter and I started crying.

Re: Have you ever cried while reading a book

I cry quite easily- even a sad commerical can set me off. In the HP series I cried during Dumbledore's funeral and didn't stop for quite some time. I started crying during the The Prince's Tale and got so upset I had to put the book down- even managed to wake up my poor hubby who thought I was having a breakdown. (I don't do pretty silent crying once I start it full on sobs)
Other books are the Lovely Bones, boy in the striped pyjamas and the green mile.
I let out a few tears reading twilight as well but that was more boredom and frustration about wasting my monthly book allowance on these 'amazing' books.

I cry when reading certain books. Most recently I sobbed through the ending of The Book Thief.

You weren't the only one. I cried my eyes out during this one as well. When the book is touching and heartfelt I usually do shed some tears. I think this shows how well written the story is if it brings about tears.

Re: Have you ever cried while reading a book

I cried for Harry Potter books 5-7 the most. Also cried during Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants series (especially Sisterhood Everlasting), His Dark Materials, The Chronicles of Narnia, Anne of Green Gables, and that's all I can think of right now.

Re: Have you ever cried while reading a book

The last couple of chapters of the book All in the Mind by Alastair Campbell really got to me.

Re: Have you ever cried while reading a book

Just ask how many times...HP has done it for me a lot of times and Hunger Games. Also Twilight and Wuthering Heights. Many other books have also made me cry but these are the ones that do it every time...

Re: Have you ever cried while reading a book

I read The Notebook and Ugh, so heart wrenching. Then I watched the movie and cried that they did such a crappy job making it.

I also cried at the end of The Prize Winner of Defiance, Ohio.

Parts of DH made me cry as well.

Like Water for Chocolate made me cry (both the movie and the book)

Re: Have you ever cried while reading a book

Hp makes me cry - esp the last 3 books! When Harry goes into the forest gets me every time - and at the end I cry with pride about Neville and what he's become

I'm sure I cried at Black Beauty when I was about 7 or 8.... and bits of Heidi...

i cried at To Kill a Mockingbird and I cried at Never Let Me Go.

There must be others...
