A Game of Thrones
Since the teaser trailer is out (Clicky here to watch it!) and we already know who's been cast for the majority of the main cast, I thought it was time for a proper thread in the TV section, where we can squee about and discuss news of the pilot as it comes our way.
If you want to discuss George R. R. Martin's fantastic and epic A Song of Ice and Fire series, you can do so here. This thread is for the upcoming series on HBO, which is based on Martin's books. The official site is here. Is it 2011 yet?

Re: A Game of Thrones
I like when epic sagas of Medieval times are turned into TV shows rather than movies. It provides more insight when you see the characters take shape with tiny plots being covered, rather than galloping through them all to wrap it up in 2 hrs time.
I like the trailer. |

Re: A Game of Thrones
I didn't really like the trailer and I was expecting to loooooooove it. Because I've been waiting for this pilot forever...though not as long as for the next instalment of the series. Ahem.
![]() Anyway, I don't think it was very effective. If you're not into fantasy per se and don't know the series, you have zero idea what A Game of Thrones is going to be about and additionally the trailer doesn't even give you a glimpse of the characters. I mean, you shouldn't have to play a trailer frame by frame to know who's in it. I didn't really like these blink-and-miss sequences.

Re: A Game of Thrones
Well there has been a distinction made that this is a teaser, not exactly a trailer. This isn't meant to show much (especially since they've only shot the Pilot and they've had to recast at least two of the main characters). This really wasn't made to tell a lot (or anything) about the show, just to give us a tease and hopefully hold us over.

Re: A Game of Thrones
I was just looking up some casting news, and found most of the roles cast so far, and thought I'd share.
Game of Thrones Casting: ![]() That's all I could find so far, but they'll keep casting, and I'm sure I missed someone.

Re: A Game of Thrones
Ithought they had tapped someone else for Catelyn?
A few thoughts about the actors. Some look dead on at least like Drago and Dany. The boy playing Joffrey looks so sweet and we know what a horrid child/man he becomes--could be good. Nothing on Sansa?

Re: A Game of Thrones
The roles of Catelyn and Dany have been recast since they shot the Pilot, meaning all the scenes with the two of them have to be reshot. Originally Jennifer Ehle played Catelyn and Tamzin Merchant played Dany.
As for Sansa, Sophie Turner will be playing her.

Re: A Game of Thrones
The trailer is well made, I suppose, but it isn't anything special in that it's fairly run of the mill. Hopefully the full length trailer will be more attention-grabbing. The casting looks fantastic, although I was disappointed when Jennifer Ehle was replaced. Excitement.

Re: A Game of Thrones
Thanks, LG
![]() I really enjoyed the teaser. I wanted to know what the story was about. Why do the woods look so ominous? Why the Raven? Who are those people we see flashes of? What does winter is coming mean? If I was new to the series I would definately be intrigued. But because I know what those things mean, I would glimpse them and they'd be gone like shadows... ![]()

Re: A Game of Thrones
GRRM just reported that PAUL ENGELEN has signed up to do the hair and makeup design for A Game of Thrones.
Exciting, no?

That's what I was thinking.
I just want to see the pilot already. The suspense is killing me. ![]()

I thought so too.

ETA: Actually, let me repost it here. I think she looks really good. Jennifer Ehle as Catelyn Stark: ![]() With all due respect, I don't think Michelle Fairley looks as good, though she'll make a very good Mrs. Granger. Last edited by FleurduJardin; June 27th, 2010 at 1:34 am. Reason: ETA |

I really have no opinion about Michelle Fairley since I've never seen her acting. While looks are certainly important in books-turned-television/movies I just really hope the acting is there as well (although I hope Catelyn has auburn hair at least, and not full out brown).

Re: A Game of Thrones
I didn't know that Ehle left the show at her own volition. I'm sorry that she won't be Catelyn. I was so excited when it was announced that she'd play the role. Oh well, I'm sure her replacement is very good, too, or else they wouldn't have cast her. I don't know anything about her.

Re: A Game of Thrones
I don't know anything about any of the actors really. I have to wonder though how true the producers are going to stay to the book. Some of the gore is pretty graphic, there's incestuousness, and what happens to Sansa and Dani is pretty horrific. I hope the actors have actually read the novels (unlike Gambon and Harry Potter!

Re: A Game of Thrones
No worries. As long as Alan Ball doesn't pull the strings and GRRM is involved in the writing of the scripts, we should be fine.

Re: A Game of Thrones
I guess my worry is how they handle alot of the "encounters" of the young girls. I mean Dani was how old when she met Drago and "consumated" the "marriage"? And when she comes out of the fire she is suckling the dragons. HBO is all for explicitness but I imagine they wouldn't want to come up on charges of child exploitation. I think this is an easy thing to avoid by aging the characters some though, and I imagine that is exactly what they'll do.
One thing I am happy about is that there isn't much swearing (as we know it lol) in the novels so I imagine there won't be a lot in the show either. Sometimes excessive swearing (think Sopranos) really takes me out of the show. Moriath, I've never seen True Blood so I guess the comparison is lost on me.
