Re: Castle

Or, if they find a freshman show they really LOVE they can just bump Castle (or Dollhouse) in as a midseason replacement again. Medium's lived that way for five years (though they tend to get full runs as often as the half-runs). STILL no official word on Chuck. But I am happy about Castle and Dollhouse. Is The Unusuals dead?

Re: Castle

Haven't heard about "The Unusuals" yet. Is that still airing?

ETA: "The Unusuals" is officially cancelled. Click here.

Great cast, interesting relationships and concept--of course they cancelled it.

Re: Castle

They cancelled Life on Mars and now The Unusuals? What the.....?
Maybe they should do another remake of CSI, NCIS, Law and Order or one of those other shows with multiple spinoffs that just won't die!
Who are these lowest common denominator viewers that rule what lives and dies?
They cancelled the show "Life" too.
It makes me wonder how a lousy show like "Bones" keeps going on forever.
Frankly, although I've watched "Castle" all season, I think I wouldn't be sad if it got cancelled, because frankly, I think it's another cookie cutter crime/comedy/drama show that is mediocre at best. No wonder it gets another season to torture it's audience.

Although I like Castle, it is very cookie cutter. To be honest, I probably wouldn't have ever watched it if it weren't for Nathan Fillion. But it is frustrating that networks don't give unusual shows a chance to catch on before pulling the plug. They think they can just keep remaking the same show over and over and we will all tune in.

Re: Castle

Cazz--of the three shows you mentioned, Life is the one I was most attached to (though I was starting to be a Gretchen Mol fan about halfway through Life on Mars and really appreciated O'Mara's work). Life on Mars got a wrap-up in the direction it looks like they were headed--I would have liked more of 1973 Annie and Sam before they sprung that on us. However, though I wasn't thrilled with the end, I liked the show and it got a wrap-up. Life should have gotten one more shot, but they would have had to rebuild the entire concept of the show because the Season 2 finale deliberately imploded the entire thing.

I think I have more patience with Castle because I enjoy both of the leads and their work together crackles in spite of some of the writing. I'm glad they got another year to solve Beckett's mother's murder, though. (I discovered Firefly years after it had been axed by Fox, and that made me a Nat Fillion fan).

Re: Castle

YAY!! It's been picked up!!

Sure it's a bit cookie cutter, but the leads have more fire than most and that makes it all worthwhile. Plus they are getting a whole lot better with the crimes.

Not sure what the deal is about the 13 episode seasons though. maybe they're cutting it up into two seasons? Fall and Spring, with a break for winter and summer?

Re: Castle

No, 13 episodes is a standard half-order. If it goes well, they pick up the other nine. If it doesn't, they cancel the show and spend whatever shot episodes weren't aired before the axing during the summer (like they're doing with Pushing Daisies now). The fire between the leads is what drives this show.

It has been getting better every episode. I hope people tune in next fall. I'd like to see where they would go with the show if they had a full season.

Re: Castle

I'll probably be tuning in next fall, though I hope it's not on against any of my favorites (Chuck, Bones--although Bones took a MAJOR hit with that wasted finale, etc.).

Re: Castle

I'll be there! And actually the more I talk to people, the more I find out that they watch it too. So I think there's a bigger fan base than what we think, which is great.
And yeah, I really like this time slot. I hope they keep it!

Re: Castle

I guess it all depends on what comes back when--it should be late enought that it avoids the So You Think You Can Dance juggernaut--and NBC is automatically out of the 10 pm game because of Jay Leno. I guess it depends on CBS, doesn't it always?

Yep -- you defintely got that right, jordmundt. It all depends on how things go that way.

If ABC can keep things up with this show and draw in a decent enough audience then that should help things... but if they can't compete with CBS -- then that's a whole other animal...

Re: Castle

I finally saw an episode of Castle last night... and it was awesome !! I loved it -- the banter between the two leads is even better than the banter between Booth and Brennan. These two have some really good chemistry so far. I'm really curious to see where it goes .

And Rob is still awesome as a director -- I would LOVE to see him direct a third X-Files film, if that day ever comes .

Neither can I... it certainly looks to be one heck of a good show.

Re: Castle

I did, and it was just as great! The chemistry is still the best and the story was good. Loved how Beckett turned Sidney Bristow and improvised how to get Castle out of the club. Also loved how they keep adding interesting layers to her with her story about having the fake Russian accent.
Sort of disappointed that they dropped her mom's case, but I'm thinking that it's not completely over yet.

Re: Castle

In order for the relationship between Castle and Beckett to heal, they have to drop her mother's case for a little bit. I think this is going to be a season-long background thing before they get a big break a la The Mentalist with Red John. I just hope this doesn't turn into Monk's search for Trudy's killer. That could be very annoying.

I didn't even make that connection! But you're right, it was totally Syndey Bristow!

I didn't understand either of those references at all. But I agree that they'll put Beckett's mother's murder on the back burner for a while but that it will come back up later in the show. At least I hope it does! I want to know what that's all about. Maybe they'll catch a murder case that has the same M.O. as Beckett's mom's and it'll come back up that way.
