Re: The NFL Football Thread v2

Also, RG3 just is unstoppable as of late. Texans need to stop needing miracles to win.

Re: The NFL Football Thread v2

Well, we hope they need a miracle in two weeks and don't get one.

RGIII has been quite solid all year long, in spite of losing his best receiver (take note Mark Sanchez).

Darn it, the Ravens won. What a play by Rice on 4th and 29.

Where was the TACKLING!!!! Turner deserves to get canned after that. I think he's at the end of his rope in San Diego.

I just want to point out that "tackle the guy" is probably a lesson NFL players should have learned long before they came to work for an NFL head coach. Failure to do so is either an affirmation of superior offensive players, or an indication of lack of talent. But in and of itself missed tackles don't really reflect on the coach.

Re: The NFL Football Thread v2

Everyone should know this and most defensive players learned this in other places, but clearly some teams (Chargers, Eagles) have trouble with defensive fundamentals.

Well not just them: I'm a Browns fan, sadly enough. Although I think the Browns defense has improved dramatically in the past few years, Cleveland fans tend to find a game unusual if there aren't half a dozen pass interference calls.

And Down Goes the Streak (and the Saints)! And yet, the Falcons looked really unimpressive pulling that off. Not as bad as the Cardinals when Ryan had his five-pick game, but really unimpressive. If not for a stupid Offensive PI penalty and truly pathetic clock management, that might be a tie game going into the last drive. Yikes.

After the tragic event that happened on Saturday, Chiefs played their hearts out and won yesterday, 27-21.

Re: The NFL Football Thread v2

They did, and Brady Quinn had a good statistical game. The Jets backed into a victory of this year's Blunder Bowl (good grief, that was awful). I think Wisenhunt is going to have to bite the bullet and get Skelton back off the bench because that rookie is hopeless.

The Andrew Luck Show had its most compelling episode to date, and the Colts are pretty firmly in that first playoff spot. Chaos abounds in the AFC and NFC North. The Lions and Vikings are pretty much dead (in spite of AP having a decent shot at 2000 rushing yards this year...wow!) and the Bears and Packers are tied. The Steelers rose up and won one in Baltimore and now the Ravens look vulnerable. The second thru fourth seeds in the AFC all have the same record. New England has two tough (should be tough) home games in a row now. If they can win both and somehow the Colts magical mystery tour can steal even one game from the Texans, the Pats might have a shot at the #1 seed in the Conference going into the last two weeks of the season. I think the Pats are good enough to win both games, but both defenses have tough reps. We'll see.

Re: The NFL Football Thread v2

Well, for all the turnovers they got, that wasn't a very convincing win. They're having red zone troubles--which is a little hard to explain with the opponent they were facing.

Re: The NFL Football Thread v2

I'm hoping for a win, but I'd definitely prefer a comfortable one. If they cut down on the silly penalties, the defense actually seems to be improving.

Re: The NFL Football Thread v2

I was glad to see a Packers win, but I'm (unfortunately) not seeing the talk that they are the best in the NFC. The Giants basically told the league how to beat the Pack - pressure on Rodgers. While watching the Packers-Lions game last night, if the Lions had just kept up the pressure they would have been able to stay in the game. Rodgers is not quite the dynamic player he was last year, and the team (riddled by injuries) is not nearly as explosive. Last year in the playoffs I knew if the Pack lost it would be to the Giants - I think the same is true this year, and my focus (for all teams in the NFC) would be on the Giants.

As far as the AFC, the Patriots are a perennial playoff team, and I do not think the majority of fans and analyzers really pay them much attention until the playoffs come around - I expect them to be competitive and able to knock off the highly ranked Texans, Broncos, and Ravens. But the Patriots in the playoffs are always upsettable - that's really the hope the AFC playoff teams have.

Re: The NFL Football Thread v2

The Pats absolutely torched the Texans even with sputtering for the last half (at least) of the second quarter and the first half (at least) of the third quarter. Nice.
