Re: The NFL Football Thread v2

Yup, ever since '95. Ugh, The Lin Elliot game!

I'd like to see Manning have a good statistical year and yet the Colts end up at 8-8 or worse. Actually, if the Colts, Giants, and Jets, all ended up at the wrong side of .500 I'd be VERY happy. Of course, there's about as much chance of that happenings as there is of winning the lottery.

Don't forget to put the Vikings on that list. And speaking of the Vikes I find it amusing that Favre says he hasn't built up a repor (sp?) with his team to justify their poor performance yet Tom Brady is throwing touchdown passes to Danny Woodhead when he can barely remember his name.

Re: The NFL Football Thread v2

And now Moss is gonna do an angry young man routine in the Vikings offense for the rest of the year? Still, dumping him for offering appropriate criticism to what is this the fourth different quarterbacks coach the Pats have had in four years, and getting rid of him for a third round pick? I think the Pats are cutting off their noses to spite their faces here, but I really hope it implodes in Minnesota.

Who is taht tiny utility back? Didn't Favre have the rep for being that good with receivers in his early 30s?

Re: The NFL Football Thread v2

I pick

Jacksonville over Buffalo
Tampa Bay over Cincy
Atlanta over Cleveland
St. Louis over Detroit (because it's Detroit)
KC over Indy (heart over head)
Green Bay over Washington
Chicago over Carolina (though frankly, this could easily be a scoreless tie at the end of overtime)

Baltimore over Denver (painful, but head over heart this time)
Houston over NY Giants
New Orleans over Arizona (man is the NFC West BAD)
San Diego over Oakland
Tennessee over Dallas (prove that there should be hype Cowboys)
Philadelphia over San Francisco (Smith will make more mistakes than Kolb in an ugly game)
Minnesota at New York Jets (heart over head again--I LOATHE the Jets).

Again, I don't see how Tennessee over Dallas is a true upset pick. The Cowboys haven't been any more consistent than the Titans to this point. Did the bye somehow make them the contender they weren't going into it? I don't get it.

IMHO, Dallas has more talent and poor coaching. The Titans have better coaching but not as much talent.

Gaah. Todd Haley is gambling a little too much too early. It could have been 3-3, but they went for it on 4th down.

Chiefs need to do better!

Re: The NFL Football Thread v2

I have to say, if KC had a decent quarterback, they could have won that outright in spite of the overagressive gambles (onside to open the game, calling a play-action pass on 4th and 2 inside the red zone and passing on an open fullback to throw at a receiver who'd drawn double coverage). However, there was at least one touchdown reception that Bowe should have had. But that brings the score to 19-16 or 19-17 instead of 19-12. Oh, and Detroit took out two and a quarter seasons' worth of frustration on poor St. Louis. Hilarious.

Re: The NFL Football Thread v2

Wow, I have never posted in here. Wish I knew about this thread earlier

As a loyal, hard core Green Bay fan - I'm extremely disappointed with the way our games have turned out Especially today... We need to work on our penalties. I thought our record amount of penalties at Chicago would've prompted GB to work on there penalties a lot more.

Although Rodgers isn't putting up great numbers like he did last year, I still think it's pretty good considering it's his third year as a starter

I don't condone trash talking other teams and their fans since it's just a game So, congrats to the Redskin fans out there - great game!

Am I the only one that thinks the Bears are quite possibly the worst 4-1 team ever?

Thank you!!!

I feel I can rightly agree with this (although I might be a bit of a biased Packer fan ) because I've lived in Illinois most of my life and I've watched the Bears play for many years. The Bears are not a bad team - but their wins were extremely lucky so far, IMO.

They are going to definitely have to improve A LOT if they want to continue their good record because so far, it seems like they've won simply because the other team crippled itself (like the Packers did ), and not through any brilliant football played on the Bears behalf. Which some hardcore Bear fans here don't want to hear Most of their game, I felt, were handed to them, and unfortunately, that's not going to cut it in the playoffs.

But on another hand, I think that the Lions are the best 0-4 team right now. I believe in a few years, they'll be a team to watch out for.

So it's not that I'm anti-Bears - but watching the Bears play doesn't get me as pumped as I get when watching my Pack play And I'm sure any football fan knows what I mean in relation to their own favorite team.

Re: The NFL Football Thread v2

Yeah, I think the Bears could easily be 2-3 instead. A fluke call benefitted them against the Lions. And the Packers shot themselves in the foot with penalties. The last game against Carolina was some really bad football. The Panthers were worse more than the Bears were better.

They have an upcoming game against a team that is also playing higher than expectations, the Redskins in a couple weeks. Might be time to see who's for real, and who's not.

Re: The NFL Football Thread v2

I've always thought the Skins had potential. They could just never put all the pieces together. Perhaps McNabb gave them a spark. People were upset that McNabb went to a "lesser" team than the Eagles. It could be that this thought that they weren't going to let McNabb down spurred the team in unforeseeable ways.

Also, am I the only one enjoying the subpar performances by NYG, Cowboys, and Vikings?

Nope, I am too

My dad's cousin is a die hard Vikings fan, and you wouldn't believe how quickly he went to hating Favre to loving him (which irritates me to no end because he denies ever saying a bad word against Favre).

And last year was unbearable to have him around because he loved to bash everyone team that wasn't the Vikings because they were on their 8-0 streak. And because they had Favre.

But now, considering their current record, he's very quiet when it comes to discussing football

I don't bash anyone's team since they all have their merits, but needless to say, I'm enjoying the fact that he has to have a taste of his own medicine

No. Cowboys and Giants are easily my 2nd and 3rd least favorite teams behind the Patriots. And I've gone from really liking and respecting Favre to treating him with the utmost disdain. Plus I'm still bitter at the Minnesota Twins.
