Haha! I used to when I was little!

However, I don't think it's weird to have a book character crush. Most people have, I mean, that's why writers make the characters like that, to charm the readers. So the whole book becomes charming and the readers love to read it!

No one....*sniffs*....mentioned.....*sobs*.....LUPIN! Waaaaaaa!!!!

(Well, maybe they did, I haven't read the whole thread )

Anyway, as you can probably tell, I love Lupin. He went through every trial a person can go through: discrimination, scorn, intense physical pain, poverty, loneliness, etc.....in fact, I think his life was just as hard (albeit in a less dramatic way) as Snape's; but unlike Snape, he never allowed it to make him bitter, but rather more sympathetic to other people's problems. No offense to Twilight fans, but I think of him as rather more of a "perfect man" than Edward. Here's a quote from trust ol' Wikipedia:

Quote:
Remus was very intelligent, calm, tolerant, gentle, and good-natured. Despite having suffered a great deal of prejudice in his life due to his lycanthropy, he managed to retain an ability to see the good in almost everybody and was extremely forgiving.

I totally agree with you, but I also I believe he's not exactly perfect, but that's good. I mean, if he was the "perfect man" that would be a little boring and extraordinary for a fictional character.

P.S: Edward is a pit creepy, isnt he?

One of my first crush on a fictional character was MacGyver, I was very young, I was waiting each episode impatiently. And my crush on a book character (I mean, the first I remember now ) was Alec Ramsey (The black Stallion). I was about 8.
Mr D'Arcy seems very popular, I've never read Jane Austen's books, except a short story called Lady Susan (she's not well-known in France), but accordoing to what I've seen (the movie with Keyra Knightley), I understand why.
I don't think it's a problem to have a crush on a fictional character as long as people don't expect others to be as perfect as in books or TV shows. Prince Charming doesn't exist (unfortunatly! )

He's more than a bit creepy; he's really creepy. Again, no offense, Twi-hards!

I'm glad to have found another Lupin-lover! The world needs more of those. And yes, he isn't completely perfect; that's what makes him even more perfect to me, if that makes the slightest bit of sense. With Edward, I feel like Meyer was constantly shoving his perfection in your face ("look, this guy's perfect!!!!"); with Lupin, JK just gives him to us without any commentary and let's us draw our own conclusions. Mine is that Lupin is one of the most amazing guys in the history of fiction.

Totally! While Edward is so stale, with his non-with its own flair-personality and Bella do whatever he wants to do. Tonks didn't do what Lupin wanted her to do. It was a healthy and pleasant relationship. I cried when I read the chapter when they... died. Poor Teddy...

I don't think it's weird. I've had my share of fictional crushes (Marius Pontmercy, anyone?) from several different books. There's just a big difference between fictional crushes and real love, obviously.

True. Crushes don't last for too long, you may forget your crushes after a while, while real love is totally different.

Re: Is it wierd to have a crush on a fictional character?

I think it's okay to have a crush on a literary character. I've had crushes on TV characters before (and not the usual hot kid or anything). It's sort of the same thing. It's easy to fall in love with someone you read about. You know so much about them that they seem real. It's not the same as real love, but it sort of an obsessive thing, since you want more.

I may disagree with you politically, religiously, and/or on Snape but that doesn't mean I dislike you.

I've been having a crush on Carlisle Cullen... Everyone has a crush on Edward or Jacob, but noooo... I have to pick the doctor.. To be completely honest.. Edward isn't nearly as creepy as Bella. She's so.. I don't know..

I think 'crushes' on fictional characters are more like admiration. You see this character who has all these attributes you like and of course, you want them to be real. I think it happens to most people on some level at least once. Unless we're all reading books with terrible and unappealing characters

The guys are being described as handsome, intelligent, charming, funny, talented, <insert adjective of choice> etc. And more importantly they've usually been secretly in love with the heroine all along. Which girl doesn't want the guy she likes to have secretly been in love with her all along? And so we fall in love with these fictional guys.

Why is it there are less boys than girls? C'mon boys of cosforums! Tell us girlies your crushes! For a long time, I've had a crush on Legolas. Now, I have a crush on no one.

Re: Is it wierd to have a crush on a fictional character?

I don't think it's weird to have a crush on a fictional character, it's actually pretty normal. When you read books, watch series etc. you start liking certain characters and relate to them. As long as it is not obsession, it' s okay. I think it is actually something nice. I think I have a crush on Lupin and Sirius.

Okay this one isn't fictional but it might as well be because I will never meet her, I'm way too old for her and have no desire to become one of those weird stalker guys. This is Nicole Fox, the winner of the just ended cycle of ANTM cycle 13. Of course the edit may essentially may make her a fictional character.

Fictional characters:

Jessica Atreides from Dune.
When I was younger I was quite fond of Romilly Macarn, Title character in Marion Zimmer Bradley's YA Darkover novel Hawkmistress.
River Tam from Firefly.
Sharon Valarii/Athena from the recently completed Battlestar Galactica remake.
Willow in Micheal Gear's The Morning River and Coyote Summer.
Willow from Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Too bad she's a lesbian.
Juniper Mackenzie in S.M. Stirling's "Dies the Fire" Trilogy.
Emily from the Webcomic Misfile.

Looking at this list, It's weird to realize I like women who can kill me easily but are not Mary Sues and are becoming self aware and are quirky. Two of the three that are parents I wouldn't want to annoy their kids.

All the Best,

Lunatic

So do I.

You know something?(generally talking guys) Everyone has a fake crush in some periods of his/her life(especially in our teen years), no matter if it's a celebrity crush, a fictional crush or whatev. And if anybody thinks it's weird, well, I don't care. That's just us! And I say us, because till now I haven't meet a person who has never had such a crush.
