I agree, love the song and it speaks to you on such a basic level, that anyone could relate.

Re: What's the Saddest Song you have ever heard of.

"Nothing to Lose" by Billy Talent

It's about someone who is constantly bullied at school. The person then goes and commits suicide because they can't find a way out.

"Learn to be Lonely" from the Phantom of the Opera

"Into the West" by Annie Lennox

"My Way" by Frank Sinatra

"Fix You by Coldplay

And then of course like everyone else has said "Hurt" by Johnny Cash. It's such an incredible song and I think it's had a bigger impact than the origional version done by NIN.

Hands down the saddest song I've ever heard was The Cat Carol by Merin Cadell. It's a very sad Christmas song about a cat that sacrifices it's life to save a poor mouse that is stranded outside on the coldest day of winter, which also happens to be Christmas Eve. Santa comes and the reindeer cry, but Santa turns the cat into a very special Christmas Star. I tear up thinking about it.

Baby Mine from Dumbo. That whole scene is just tragic.

Yes! I get hysterical whenever I hear that! Quite dangerous as I listen to it on the way to college sometimes...

The saddest song I ever heard it is a 3 way tie between "Bother" Stone Sour, "Broken" Seether, and "Fade to Black" by Metallica

Re: What's the Saddest Song you have ever heard of.

"I'm so lonesome I could cry" by Hank Williams Sr.

The instrumental part and especially the lyrics:

Hear that lonesome whippoorwill
He sounds too blue to fly
The midnight train is whining low
I'm so lonesome I could cry

I've never seen a night so long
When time goes crawling by
The moon just went behind a cloud
To hide its face and cry

Did you ever see a robin weep
When leaves begin to die?
That means he's lost the will to live
I'm so lonesome I could cry

The silence of a falling star
Lights up a purple sky
And as I wonder where you are
I'm so lonesome I could cry

Have you got a spade?" ...He dug with a kind of fury, relishing the manual work, glorying in the non-magic of it, for every drop of his sweat and every blister felt like a gift to the elf who had saved their lives. ...Harry wrapped the elf more snugly in his jacket. Ron sat on the edge of the grave and stripped off his shoes and socks, which he placed upon the elf's bare feet. Dean produced a woolen hat, which Harry placed carefully upon Dobby's head, muffling his batlike ears. ..."There," she said softly. "Now he could be sleeping." Harry placed the elf into the grave, arranged his tiny limbs so that he might have been resting... ...Here lies Dobby, a free elf.

Adios Nonino by Carel Kraayenhoff, in the version that was played at Maxima's wedding.
