Hopefully Jedward won't make it past the semis tonight.

Re: Eurovision 2011

I'm afraid, but we probably will see them in the final. I know some people who think that they are cool. But those are the same who think that Sweden is awesome. I do not trust their opinion.

German news channel cracks me up. They doing a lot of tweets on the Contest and have introduced the world to "Ernie", the Oracle snail. For example here's Ernie visiting Duesseldorf.

One of my friends was there on Tuesday in the audience. He said that the acoustic inside wasn't the best. There were also other complaints, for example that there were some technical issues or that the public viewing in the city was a joke and nothing was shown on screen. You can say it was really like at a funeral.

Re: Eurovision 2011

Upon reflection I may have been too harsh on Jedward.

Their performance last night was actually a lot of fun, and I wish them both well for tomorrow.

To their credit, those guys never let the criticism get them down, and always give 100%.

Re: Eurovision 2011

I think Jedward's stage performance was one of the best, but I don't really like their characters.

I think yesterday I got 7/10 right. I mean that the Moldavian garden gnomes will make it was to be expected, but there were more surprising votes.

Re: Eurovision 2011

I've the same impression of Jedward I think. It's admirable how well, enthusiastically and just positively crazy they perform, but it's difficult for me to like the personas.

I very much like the Moldavian entry, but I'm a enjoy ska music anyway and that got close in many instances.

Estonia had better entries in the past, I'm a wee bit disappointed in that one, but still glad they made it.

Jedward don't have personas.

99% of their personality consists of their hair.

Re: Eurovision 2011

I couldn't stand Jedward on X factor, but I am actually rooting for them for Eurovision this year and it shames me to say it I actually really like the song! And their performance last night was fun and hilarious, you could see people really responding to it, I can't wait to see them in the final.

I don't think Blue's entry is as bad as people were implying at first in the media etc, I actually think they're quite a strong act vocally and they have a fanbase which helps, I hope they do well

My memory is awful so I will have to go back and remind myself of which of the other entires I liked, there were a few from the semis but can't remember if they got through or not.

Looking forward to the final tomorrow!

If the UK doesn't win Eurovision tonight, we are invading Europe on Monday morning.

Vote UK, or face the consequences.

Re: Eurovision 2011

^ Yo. But what will Moldavia do if they don't win?

Since the opening is over... naturally moderator Stefan Raab decided to rather rock than talk. For those euronerds who don't quite recall that guy, he entered Eurovision himself in 2000 with a song called 'Wadde Hadde Dudde da':

Re: Eurovision 2011

They will send an army of gnomes to march into the other countries.

Denmark's song is so incredibly catchy. I will put them into my Top 3 (for now)

Some criticism: They should have made some different clips between the songs. Those are the same like in the final. And far too much Berlin in there.

Jedward. Not bad.... when you close your eyes and just listen to the song.

Sweden on the other hand I can only handle when I put it on mute. Lyrics, oh those lyrics.\

There's a magic trick in Estonia's entry? Why do I always miss that?

I still stand by my pick.

Lena was very good, and she looked awesome.

I really liked Denmark's song, France's and Azerbaijan's. I think Lena has a really distinctive voice, so I wouldn't count Germany out, either.

And the story behind the Iceland entry is really moving.

They've grown on me, too.

I think it's pretty good, a real boyband song.

I don't think either Hungary or the UK gave their best performance.

My money's now on Austria or Romania, with France as the runner up.

1 Italy
2 Iceland
3 B&H / Georgia / Greece

We have a party each year, showing the event on a big screen. Food, derogatory comments and points for; costume, dancers, being able to sing/play the instruments, beauty, visuals and the Song.

Re: Eurovision 2011

Congrats to Azerbaijan! It wasn't my favourite pic, but I don't think it was a political vote either - there have been too many good results from countries which citizens probably have no clue about Azerbaijan what indicates to me that people simply liked that song. The happyness of the winning couple was cute.

I'm sorry about Switzerland's result, because this song became a slow favourite of mine during the contest. Finland didn't quite fulfil the expectations either, but I believe this contest had many very colourful and good entries, so an decision can't have been easy at all.
Moldava - awww, I had loved to see them some spots closer to the top. Jedward were better than I thought (on second sight) since they just brought a lot of fun across. I've often seen Lena performing 'Stranger' lately, but never as good as yesterday evening. That really was impressing (but I'm still very fine with #10). Very much enjoying also that Italy had so much success with a jazz song.

Re: Eurovision 2011

Azerbaijan's victory was definitely not a political vote and I'm happy for them but what was Europe thinking? I never even thought of them as favourites because the song sounds like such a cheesy ballad to me. At one point I was even hoping for Sweden to win even though the lyrics were painfully dull.

I was pleasantly surprised by the UK entry this year but the general optimism on various fansites that they had this in the bag surprised me even more. It was a catchy song by a popular band but it didn't have the wow effect. The performance was also a bit too much routine, in my view. It didn't quite excite me.

Now Moldova, on the other hand, these guys were fantastic. They were creative, crazy and their song was alternative enough to stand out without alienating anyone. Loved them! I wish they had won or at least made the top three.

Denmark was my second favourite. They had a more mediocre song but it was catchy and the band was into it. Nice!

Ireland. They should have won, too, hyperactive as they were.

I liked Italy but thought the performance could have been better. And Iceland...I think the story behind the song was more interesting than the song.

The question is what is a country from south-west Asia doing in Eurovision in the first place?

Re: Eurovision 2011

Because they belong to the European Broadcasting Union. Everyone is the European Broadcasting Area is entitled to participate. Which would be:

The "European Broadcasting Area" is bounded on the west by the western boundary of Region 1, on the east by the meridian 40° East of Greenwich and on the south by the parallel 30° North so as to include the northern part of Saudi Arabia and that part of those countries bordering the Mediterranean within these limits. In addition, Iraq, Jordan and that part of the territory of Syrian Arab Republic, Turkey and Ukraine lying outside the above limits are included in the European Broadcasting Area.

Or they belong to the Council of Europe, Azerbaijan for example is a member of this.
