I usually prefer studio albums, because the sounds tend to be a little cleaner. I love live music too, but it's a totally different experience. If you want to listen to music, I prefer the studio albums and live performances.

live music is alright if your there and seeing it live so you don't get all that technical stuff they do to change the singers voice and the sound of the instruments but unless i'd seeing it live i'd probly prefer studio

Studio is nice because the singer would be prime vocal shape instead of burnt-out from being on the road and we get to listen to straight music- no screaming fans. hah

But with live music we get to see the emotion behind the songs, which adds so much to the performance. There is also more opportunity to ad-lib during a live performance which is fun

In my opinion studio music are always better than live music. Live performer try to give their best musical performance, but they can give that much better performance with their sound, as their mind is not only keep concentrate on music, but also on Audience.

It depends entirely on the artist. Bands like Dire Straits or Led Zeppelin were far superior when on stage.
On the other hand, there's also the other extreme of an extremely talented artist like, let's say Michael Jackson, never releasing a live recording. Taking a look at his concerts, people might be a little put off at first since he used not to put all his effort into singing, but rather into performing (dance moves and whatnot), resulting in being way too out of breath to give the same vocal quality found on his studio recordings.

^ IMO if you can't cut it live it makes you a lesser artist overall. Anybody can sound good on a recording but it takes real talent to be able to perform live.

If it's a matter of listening to a CD or going to a live show, I would pick the live show.

However if we're talking studio CD vs live CD I'd pick studio almost every time. I think the one exception to this would be Dropkick Murphys Live on St. Patrick's Day.

Studio definitely. I prefer the richness of the sound that only a studio recording can give. I don't buy live albums ever. The only time I would consider buying a live album is if I attended that very concert when the recording was made.

I disagree about richness only coming from studio recordings. I was listening to a live Nine Inch Nails album today and it was far more powerful than any of their studio recordings. It's not as perfect, but if anything I think that gives it more charm.

I don't own many live CDs but I go and see live bands once or twice a week (every week, literally) and nothing in the world compares.
