Re: Favorite Songs for a Wedding/Reception?

This started as a joke, but then I gave it some serious thought and it stopped being a joke. But some history first so you could undertand my choices a bit better. I mean if you are interested.
I do not go to church and I do not believe in God, to me that didn't feel right. So a church wedding is out of question for me. And I have somewhat a dark taste in music., maybe not dark, but more...umm... metal. So I want to hear this song before I am answering "I do". And the song, it is AC/DC's Highway to he*l. Why? Because I appreciate a healthy amount of irony and sarcasm. And the same goes when I am announced of being someone's mrs. Then I want to hear *sings* "Welcome to Addams family, welcome to te addams family." It is hilarious and everybody in my family would get that. We are a bunch of people with seriously twisted humour.

I don't about the other songs, but they would be our favourite songs, all genres happily mixed. Now I just need to find that special someone.

Re: Favorite Songs for a Wedding/Reception?

The first song that immediatly comes to mind is Amazed by Lonestar. I think it's the best ballad of all time. It also set all kinds of records and I imagine is pretty popular still today. If I end up marrying and she is a country music fan, I think this will def be our wedding song.

Every time our eyes meet
This feeling inside me
Is almost more than I can take
Baby when you touch me
I can feel how much you love me
And it just blows me away
I've never been this close to anyone or anything
I can hear your thoughts
I can see your dreams

I don't know how you do what you do
I'm so in love with you, it just keeps getting better
I wanna spend the rest of my life with you by my side
Forever and ever
Every little thing that you do
Baby I'm amazed by you

The smell of your skin
The taste of your kiss
The way you whisper in the dark
Your hair all around me, baby you surround me
You touch every place in my heart
Oh, it feels like the first time every time
I wanna spend the whole night in your eyes

I don't know how you do what you do
I'm so in love with you, it just keeps getting better
I wanna spend the rest of my life with you by my side
Forever and ever
Every little thing that you do
Baby I'm amazed by you

Every little thing that you do
I'm so in love with you
It just keeps getting better
I wanna spend the rest of my life with you by my side
Forever and ever
Every little thing that you do
Oh, every little thing that you do
Baby I'm amazed by you

I was just about to say the exact same thing!

I am also rather fond of Everything I Do by Bryan Adams and I Don't Wanna Miss A Thing by Aerosmith. Oh and Thank You For Loving Me by Bon Jovi.

Wedding March
Which of them? Wagner's or Mendelshonn's?

I'm afraid I'm a very classical person, so I'd have a problem with Aerosmith or Brian Adams for a wedding. Besides, 1) Most of churches here are over than 200 years old, so it would sound out of place; and 2) Most of churches don't allow to play non-religious music. They're more lenient in the case of weddings, but Aerosmith would be too much.

Re: Favorite Songs for a Wedding/Reception?

Everything I Do (I Do it for You) - Bryan Adams - only if I end up marrying my ex boyfriend, the song was number one somewhere, from my b-day to his b-day, it's funny...I know why I loved that song so much when I was a babbin!
otherwise:
Bring Me To Life-Evanescence
On The Ride-Aly & AJ
Speechless-The Veronicas
Keep Holding On-Avril Lavigne...if I had to limit it abit!
I got a whole load of songs I'd love to have at my wedding HERE

Re: Favorite Songs for a Wedding/Reception?

Onward- Yes

Contained in everything I do
There's a love, I feel for you
Proclaimed in everything I write
You're the light
Burning, brightly
Onward through the night
Onward through the night
Onward through the night of my life
Displayed in all the things I see
There's a love you show to me
Portrayed in all the things you say
You're the day
Leading the way
Onward through the night
Onward through the night
Onward through the night of my life

Onward through the night
Onward through the night
Onward through the night of my life

Only You Can Love Me This Way - Keith Urban

It's a great song, but I don't recommend it if you don't like country music.

Re: Favorite Songs for a Wedding/Reception?

Having recently got engaged this question has come up in conversation a few times lately. I'm personally of the opinion that you can't beat 80s power rock ballards. Some of the songs that I will definitely have played are:

Journey - Don't Stop Believing
Foreigner - Waiting for a Girl Like You
Cutting Crew - (I Just) Died In Your Arms Tonight
Richard Marx - Right Here Waiting
REO Speedwagon - Keep On Loving You
The Human League - Together In Electric Dreams
Lightning Seeds - Pure

And one modern song I definitely want played:

Jason Mraz - I'm Yours

Re: Favorite Songs for a Wedding/Reception?

Well done, MollyWobbles, for putting a Kiwi song in there. (:

I must say that I just attended a wedding recently. And for the wedding song, when my sister walked down the aisle, was "Somewhere over the rainbow", a modern version of it. And then they just partied through the night to Bon Jovi, and quite some old school artists, although it was modern in the beginning, and then I left later on.

Re: Favorite Songs for a Wedding/Reception?

"Annie's Song" - John Denver

You fill up me senses like a night in a forest
Like the mountains in springtime, like a walk in the rain
Like a storm in the desert, like a sleepy blue ocean
You fill up my senses come fill me again.

Come let me love you, let me give my life to you
Let me drown in your laughter, let me die in your arms
Let me lay down beside you, let me always be with you
Come let me love you, come love me again.

...Let me give my life to you
Come let me love you, come love me again.

You fill up my senses like a night in a forest
Like the mountains in springtime, like a walk in the rain
Like a storm in the desert, like a sleepy blue ocean
You fill up my senses, come fill me again.

My sister had this song at her wedding and I love it....

Re: Favorite Songs for a Wedding/Reception?

Well, I'm currently trying to come up with a playlist for my wedding. In the church, we've got a string quartet playing classical music and hymns. At the reception venue we've got a harpist playing during the meal. She'll be playing more classical music, and also some more modern songs and film scores, including a few songs from the Lord of the Rings films. And then in the evening we've got a disco which I'm really struggling to come up with a playlist for. I want a night of fun, party songs, but not too cheesy (well, except for some 80s pop classics!). So far I've come up with the following list:

Billy Idol - White Wedding
Simple Minds - Don't You (Forget About Me)
Dead Or Alive - You Spin Me Round
M - Pop Muzik
Kenny Loggins - Danger Zone
New Order - Temptation
New Order - Blue Monday
New Order - True Faith
Hall and Oates - I Can't Go For That
Madness - House Of Fun
Madness - Baggy Trousers
Aztec Camera - Somewhere In My Heart
Robert Palmer - Addicted To Love
Blondie - Atomic
De La Soul - Saturday
Pulp - Disco 2000
Pulp - Common People
Blur - Girls and Boys
Rolling Stones - Paint It Black
Blues Brothers - Everybody Needs Somebody
