Re: Twilight: Breaking Dawn

While I think that there is quite a lot of information in BD, there is a lot of padding and over description that would be cut first of all. The wedding and honeymoon wouldn't need to take up more than 15-20 mins (unless they go into a crazy amount of depth which is totally not needed) and that's a third of the book gone already.

Even if they did manage to get together enough information to make 2 films, I don't think there's a logical place to put the split - it can't be right after the birth/imprinting because people would be left wondering what the **** had just happened (especially if they do it exactly as it is in the book). No other point in the book makes sense because if they split it after Bella is okay with the imprinting then it won't seem like there's another part and could be the complete end. At least with the other 2 there was still something to be resolved. Any place after there and there wouldn't be enough to make a 2nd film.

Apart from that, I think BD would be okay as long as they don't do Bella's first hunt like the bit in New Moon when, IIRC, Alice has the vision of Bella and Edward running through the forest - that was dreadfully corny IMO

Omigosh, YES. That was so cheesy I thought I would die. Haha. Kristin Stewart seriously does NOT look good in that ugly green dress. And they had those stupid corny smiles...eww. I sincerely hope that's not what Breaking Dawn is like the whole time. I will be very disappointed. But I'm afraid that's the way it will go, because the book was pretty cheesy sometimes. "Oh Bella, that was the most graceful vampire jump I ever saw!" Um, ok. Thought she was all clumsy, but whatever.

Apart from the fear that BD will be so tremendously cheesy that I can't bear to watch it, I'm a little worried about two parts: the honeymoon and the birth scene. Maybe it's just me, but reading some of the honeymoon parts made me a little uncomfortable...I'm a teenage girl, and while I'm exposed to that kind of thing every DAY almost, I don't appreciate it. I was pretty surprised at Stephenie for putting that in...IMO she could have just been like, "Welcome to Isle Esme...*fade to black*....Oh noes! Bella is pregnant? How did this happen since they were JUST ON THEIR HONEYMOON?" But I guess most of her fans wanted to read it. Anyways, I'm worried that the movie will take it WAY to far, considering that the kissing scene in Twilight was pretty steamy, and they didn't even really do that in the book.

My other concern is that the birth scene will be too graphic. It was pretty gross, the way it was described in the book, with the barfing blood and the broken bones and the nakedness and the writhing uncontrollably...not to mention, the baby ripping its way out of her stomach. I am hoping they tone it down some for theaters.

I don't think they will take it too far, in the book it wasn't too bad and SM got away with it even if younger readers were reading it, but I think if they were to stick to the book during the honeymoon scenes then it would push the rating higher. I'm not an expert on estimating what ratings a film should get but if they showed Bella and Edward naked like they are in the books then I doubt the 12/13 year olds would be able to see it, even if we did only see the back of them.

I'm sure that this will definitely not follow the book - Bella throws up blood, then passes out and is naked on a table while Edward "eats" her stomach to get the baby out and there's no way they could make that believable if they didn't cover her in blood and, again, I reckon that would push the rating up so that the younger fans wouldn't be able to see it.

They're going to have to keep the rating at a 12 or 12A (not sure what that is in America) so that the younger fans will be able to see it and if they stick exactly to canon then they won't be able to do that IMO

Same here. I can readily admit how cheesy and trashy the series is, and I don't think SM is a good writer, craft-wise, yet I can't stop reading those darn books. I have to say, SM knows how to hook us into the story, bad writing or not. I am totally Team Jacob, though; Edward does nothing for me. At least I have two teenage daughters so I can go to the midnight showings and buy the DVDs the day they come out, for my daughters, you know.

#1 - They get married, Renesmee is conceived, drama re: wolf pack, drama re: Jacob, Renesmee is born and imprinted on.

#2 - Bella becomes vampire, oooo fancy new things/life, Irina sees Renesmee, reports to Volturi, drama re: saving themselves, drama re: Alice, woo new vampire characters (they can add in lots of cool stuff here), keeping stuff from Edward, mastering skills, final fight.

I was surprised it wasn't two books, actually. Yes, I could see a lot being cut out for one film and I wouldn't be all that upset because I think it's the most padded book of recent memory, but the fact is that all the Twi-hards out there want more of everything - more Edward dreaminess, more Jacob awesomeness, more cool vampire things, more, more, more. These films are catering to those fans, even if they aren't the rational fans that realise there is a lot that can be cut. The studio does not want to be screamed at for cutting stuff.
I agree that the best place to cut is right after Jacob imprints. The audience will be able to figure it out if they have the explanation about Quil and Claire earlier in the film. "Pwetty Wock!!"

I thought the best part of Breaking Dawn was Jacob's wry point of view. Jacob's sarcastic comments (and his chapter titles!) had me cracking up repeatedly. I hope they do a lot of Jacob voice over. Really. And I thought the wolf pack stuff was interesting in the book. I guess they could have some of their conversations occur when they are human, but I think they are going to have to do some wolf pack voiceovers, or else cut out a whole lot of stuff.

As for the non-battle at the end, yawn. Not sure how that will work out.

Yes, I think that is the obvious place to end part 1- when bella converts and jacob imprints. As for the honeymoon, I personally want all of it in there ! I know that won't happen since there are a lot of tween fans, but I loved the isle esme portion of that book. It was romantic and funny all at the same time.

As for Jacob's voiceover, I liked it too. I was actually hoping we would get that at the end of the eclipse movie just like in the book and was disappointed that they left it out. I hope we get more wolf pack in the film since there is so much time now that they have split the last book.

Re: Twilight: Breaking Dawn (Nov 2011)

Just saw from photos of the breaking dawn set. I love the fact they are actually filming in Brazil. I kind of thought Bella's dress would be more "Jane Austen" since that is what is described in the book; but maybe this isn't the actual wedding dress & just her honeymoon outfit. Either way, I think kristen looks great!

I really liked it. Seeing Edward standing there is amazing. I hope that part in the movie is really emotional. They didn't spend enough time on the wedding in the book in my opinion. Hopefully the movie fixes this.

I heard that in that little teaser, apparently you can see Stephenie Meyer. She has a cameo as a wedding guest.

Stephenie Meyer also had a cameo in Twilight She was the customer in the diner, and the waitress hands her pie and says "Happy Birthday Stephenie"

Funny enough, she was writing a little bit of Breaking Dawn during the scene. So a little connection between that and this movie.
