I once read in a book about misheard lyrics that someone thought it was "Clown control to Mao-Tse Tung" so, in comparison, yours was pretty accurate!

Re: Misheard lyrics

I've made that mistake with "Blinded By The Light" myself because it sounds like that by the way he sings it.

"Blue" by Eiffel 65. It sounds like they're saying, "I'm blue, if I O.D.e'd I would die. If I O.D.ed I would die." One of my friends kept saying those were the words, and when the song came on the radio, I heard it, and it did sound like that.

One of my friends thought it sounded like "I'm blue, I'm in need of a guy."

Hmmm. Never heard it like that, but I can see where that mistake would come in.

"Walking with a ghost" by Tegan and Sara
Real lyrics: "I was walking with a ghost, I said please, please don't insist..."
What my dad heard: "I was TALKING to the BOYS, I said please, please don't RESIST..." (this made me laugh so hard, for so many reasons )

"You're So Vain" by Carly Simon
Real lyrics: "I had some dreams they were clouds in my coffee..."
What I heard: I had some dreams they were CLOWNS in my coffee..." XD

"Mobile" by Avril Lavigne
Real lyrics: "when I turn around all out of my control I'm a mobile"
What my sister heard: "when I turn around all out of my control I'm a ROBOT"

Re: Misheard lyrics

haha this thread is awesome because I have [staff edit] hearing I think and always sing the wrong lyrics! It used to drive my brother crazy even though he used to sing "I like peeing in colada" instead of "I like pina coladas".

Anway, the pussycat dolls song that says "when I grow up, i wanna see the world, drive nice cars, i wanna have groupies" ... I used to sing
Spoiler: show
"drive nice cars, i wanna have boobies"
which is actually pretty common, come to find out.

Thought it was: "rock the catbox"
It's actually: "rock the casbah"

Thought it was: "She's got style, she's got grace, she's a [staff edit]" (tom jones' shes a lady)
It's actually: "she's a winner" (it still totally sounds like [staff edit]to me)

Thought it was: "but just look at us old and naught" ?? (shania twain you're still the one)
It's actually: "but just look at us holdin' on"

Thought it was: "Bopperann" (beach boys)
It's actually: "Barbara Ann" --I actually didn't know this one until a few years ago and I'm 24. Sad, I know.

Thought it was: "my grandma and your grandma, sittin by the fire, my grandma said to your grandma, I'm gonna set your dog on fire" (iko iko by the dixie cups)
It's actually: "I'm gonna set your flag on fire"

There's more I'm sure but i can't remember...

Re: Misheard lyrics

Ah, the Pussycat Dolls one is one I've misheard too, but it was confirmed by the group that it's groupies. Ellen misheard it, too.

Those other ones are hilarious. I also misheard the Beach Boys one as well.

Re: Misheard lyrics

Well, I'd rather have six-year-olds singing that than the true lyrics. It's funny to hear that though.

Re: Misheard lyrics

"the Bad Moon's on the rise" as "the bathroom's on the right"

And the Nine Inch Nails lyric of "I was up above it, now I'm down in it" as "I was on the Muppets, now I'm down in it"

Re: Misheard lyrics

This is one from my childhood, whenever I watched Disney's Tarzan.

Strangers Like Me
What I Heard: "Indigestion, every move that she makes..."

Real Lyrics: "Every gesture, every move that she makes..."

According to my kid logic, I thought it meant that Tarzan was falling so hard for Jane that Phil Collins was comparing the feeling to indigestion because Tarzan didn't understand human ways yet and couldn't explain love.

I always mishear that one . It's so easy to do that due to the way that the singer sings it .

Out of Touch -- Hall & Oates
What I thought:
Reaching out for something to hold
Like a boiler ( now that doesn't make any sense at all )
Where the climate is bold

What the lyrics really were:
Reaching out for something to hold
Looking for a love
Where the climate is cold

I've been mishearing the above song this way since I was a kid, I think it's due to the way the singer is singing it.

source of the right lyrics

------------------------------------------

One from Nirvana -- 'Smells like teen spirit'
Thought the lyric was:
Here we are now, irritate us...

When it really was:
Here we are now, entertain us...

source of the right lyrics

----------------------------------------

'Words are linen class and forgettable' <-- what I thought
'Words are meaningless and forgettable' <-- the actual lyric

I was like, 'Wow, now it actually makes sense ... since I had no idea just what linen class meant '

The misheard version came from me hearing Lacuna Coil's version of 'Enjoy the Silence'. The actual lyric came from the original version by Depreche Mode.

source of the right lyrics

Re: Misheard lyrics

Well, I listen to a lot of Taylor Swift, sorry xD

So, yesterday I was listening to What To Wear, and after the first chorus, instead of:
"She's standing in her bedroom,
He'll be pullin' up soon,
She thinks about it as she sees headlights"
I though she said:
"She's standing in her bedroom,
He'll be pullin' up soon,
She thinks about it as she sees her lice"
Okay yucky enough :P

And this other time I was listening to Better Than Revenge and it was ""She took him faster than you can say sabotage" to "She took him faster than you can say Santa Claus" xp

Also, when I was listening to the "Who Let The Dogs Out" song for some reason I always thought it said "Touratadosa" :$

Re: Misheard lyrics

When I was very little I always sang Madonna's "Material Girl" as "I'm a cheerio girl!"

(What can I say, I loved my Cheerios!)

LOL I made almost the same mistake with What To Wear! I thought it said: "She thinks about it as she sees headlice". The Better Than Revenge one's hilarious! XD

I just remembered a few Taylor Swift mistakes:

In her "Cold As You", I thought the line: "...and I know you wouldn't have told nobody if I died, died for you" was: "...and I know you wouldn't at all, no, buddy, and I died, died for you". I was actually quite disappointed, I liked that line the way I thought it was

Also in "Fearless", I thought the line in the bridge: "Well you stood there with me in the doorway, my hands shake, I'm not usually this way" was "Well you stood the with me in the door, read my handshake, I'm not usually this way" for some reason, even though it makes NO sense

And lastly, from "Teardrops on my guitar": "The Only one who's got enough of me to break my heart" I thought it was "The only one who's good enough for me to break my heart".

There are many others, I just don't remember them right now...they will come

Re: Misheard lyrics

Old Time Rock & Roll -- Bob Seger

What I thought:

Just take those old records on yourself ( )

What the lyrics really were:

Just take those old records off the shelf

I was singing this song recently and got the lyrics messed up by mistake, due to being somewhat tired .

source of the right lyrics
