Re: Misheard lyrics

Speaking of misheard lyrics... I heard some from a Journey song called, 'Only the Young'...

I thought a line was... 'Only the young can say... their feet can fly away (now how does one's feet go and do that ...)...'

Instead of this...

Only the young can say
They're free to fly away

Re: Misheard lyrics

Maybe a sign that kids are listening to more aggressive music at younger ages... I was walking in the mall and I pass this store that's playing Feist's "1234", and this little girl is just dancing around and singing along with it. It's toward the end of the song and when I walk by I notice that instead of singing the line that's something like, " 'breaking your heart...those teenage boys..." she's saying, " n[explicit]a, you (go) haard....on teenage love."

And I like literally stop for a moment just to hear if she's really singing that and she is ^^;; One of the store clerks must've heard her too, 'cause she was looking at her strangely too. Her mum didn't seem to notice, as she was talking on the phone.

It was kinda funny, but I was thinking, "You're like four...what are you listening to?"

One from, with a little help from your friends by Joe Cocker.

what I thought 'what would you do with that same attitude'

the real lyric 'what would you do if I sang out of tune...'

Re: Misheard lyrics

When I was younger, when 3 Doors Down's song "Kryptonite" came out, I thought they said, "...hole in my head.." They were really saying, "holdin' my hand.." Haha. Makes no sense, but I was young.

Re: Misheard lyrics

"Dear Mister Fantasy" by Traffic

My dad misheard the lyrics as:

Do anything, take a Saturday sploon

When the real lyrics are:

Do anything, take us out of this gloom.

It makes me wonder, what's a sploon anyways? People have studied this, I think. When someone suggests what to hear, you have a hard time hearing anything else. It's like in certain Disney movies. With Aladdin, for example, some people believed that Aladdin was saying to the tiger, "All good kids, take off your clothes." In reality, the actor was just speaking filler dialogue, but people read into the dialogue what they wanted to hear.

Re: Misheard lyrics

Song: "Hold My Hand" by Hootie & the Blowfish
What I heard: I wanna love you, but the band said, the band said I can't.
Correct lyrics: I wanna love you the best that, the best that I can

Re: Misheard lyrics

"Hold me closer Tony Danza" (Tiny Dancer. Sir Elton John)

"Blinded by the light, wrapped up like a douche, another runner in the night" -- Should be "Blinded by the light, revved up like deuce (what the hell does that mean? :P)..." (Manfred Mann's Earth Band)

That last one I feel should be rather common.

I've heard of both of those .

'Words are linen class and forgettable' <-- what I thought

'Words are meaningless and forgettable' <-- the actual lyric

I was like, 'Wow, now it actually makes sense ... since I had no idea just what linen class meant '

The misheard version came from me hearing Lacuna Coil's version of 'Enjoy the Silence'. The actual lyric came from the original version by Depreche Mode.

Re: Misheard lyrics

When my sister and I were younger, (she was 4, and I was about 8) the song "I'll be" by Edward McCain would come on the radio and we would belt the song out. Well the lyrics we would sing were...

"I'll be your dying soldier, I'll be your loves suicide"

Real Lyrics:

"I'll be your crying shoulder, I'll be your love superstar"

That was SO long ago.....but it was still cute!

I always thought in the song "The Reason Why" by Ladytron went:

Is that the reason,
Why you're eating two pies?

Re: Misheard lyrics

In The Lion King song "Be Prepared" there is a part where Whoopy and co sing "long live the king" and I keep hearing "make love to the king".

Re: Misheard lyrics

In the song Casey Jr. I always thought "have some lemonade and cracker jacks" was actually "find a lemon in your cracker jacks!"

Re: Misheard lyrics

When I was very little, I thought that the opening line in John Lennon's Instant Karma was "Mrs Carter's gonna get you". I was completely baffled as to exactly who she was, but my best bet was on some irate school teacher.

Re: Misheard lyrics

This one comes from my brother, actually. When he was younger, he would sing "Sacred asain man," instead of "secret agent man." the first time I heard that I almost cried because was laughing so hard.

Yah, but Joe Cocker covered it. Honestly, I like Cocker's version better.

A deuce is a "little deuce coupe", the 3-windowed 1932 Ford Coupe. It was (and is) a favorite of hot-rodders.

you don't know what I got:

This one was only cleared up last week, when I actually looked up the lyrics...

Actual lyrics: And how could I ever refuse/I feel like I win when I lose

What I heard and have been singing out loud for 30 some-odd years: And how could I ever refuse/I feel like my neck's in a noose

ABBA, "Waterloo"
