I've been using a character by the name of "Jason Blackwater" for quite a few years now, but I've just now found the perfect place for him. Of course, AS SOON as I figure this out, I learn the the main character of Rick Riodran's The Lost Hero is also named "Jason".

I just can't imagine his name any other way, let alone think of a new one! The ironic part.....the "perfect place" for him is a sort of a parody of Percy, Harry, and other fantasy novels

I know exactly what you mean!
I guess no story is 100% original. We are always borrowing used plot-lines, usually without realizing it. Its all about how you flesh out your story and your characters that makes it different from someone else. Just try to make your story as much your own as you can.
