Movies for when you're a bit down

I was just thinking, when I'm a bit sad, nothing raises my spirits like curling up on the couch and watching Breakfast at Tiffany's. I mentioned this, and found that my mom has similar feelings for Fiddler on the Roof, and I got to wondering if everyone has some movie they like to watch when they're a little sad. What's yours?

There is only one movie that I can think of right now that cheers me up when I'm sad. That movie is the Princess Bride. It's romantic and it's funny. Of course it's going to cheer me up!

For me, Robin Hood: Men In Tights cheers me up whenever I feel down. Just watching this funny and silly movie makes me happy and makes me laugh, no matter what .

Aside from Princess Bride, and Robin Hood Men in Tights, other movies that cheer me up are Operation Petticoat, Some Like it Hot, Romancing the Stone, The Sand Lot. The list goes on.

I like that movie too, but I've never been able to see the entire film. Since every copy that I've ever watched, messed up...

Gah, I would love to be able to see the rest of the film someday though -- it's a classic .

Princess Bride, of course. And Singing in the Rain; just hilarious and optimistic beyond all things.

If you want to get cheered up, and you like his style, anything Will Ferrell at all, especially Elf, because that one is not only incredibly hilarious, it has a deeper story with Buddy and his dad hating him and all that, but them being friends again at the end.

Heath Ledger, bless him - for A Knight's Tale - for the music, and the daftness of the movie, and above all for the best portrayal of Geoffrey Chaucer - ever - from (I think) Paul Bettany - who keeps making bets he can't cover, and losing his clothes - - a movie with a beginning, a middle, an end, several heroes, a good soundtrack, good acting, atmospheric sets, and all ends happily ever after - what more could you want?

Anything with Will Ferrell, Adam Sandler, or Ashton Kutcher is bound to make you happy and make you start laughing when your down.

Have you seen it before? Great movie.

Try Operation Petticoat some time if you enjoyed Some Like it Hot. Different sort of comedy. But Tony Curtis again. Tony Curtis and Cary Grant. There isn't much more one can ask for.

The Princess Bride, Breakfast On Pluto, ALW's The Phantom of the Opera. I guess that's the short list.

When I'm down Adam Sandler is always a picker uper. I like 'Spanglish' and 'Click', all his older stuff too. Any of the Harry Potter movies. A good oldie like 'Breakfast at Tiffany's' or 'Diamonds are a Girls Best Friend' or 'Road to Bali'.

Re: Movies for when you're a bit down

I'm not into comedies much, so when I'm down I like to watch my favorite movies, like Lord of the Rings, Star Wars and X-Men among others.

I do the same. All depends on the mood. If I'm needing a good laugh, I'll watch a comedy like the ones mentioned above.

But when I'm wanting escapism, something to truly take my mind off life in general then I watch something like Star Wars or X-Men.
