Perfect Albums

I saw this question on another forum once, and thought it would be interesting to ask here. Most of the time, when you listen to an album, there are one or two, maybe three songs on there that you just don't like. You love the band, but that song just isn't your thing. However, once in a while an album comes along that (you think) is perfect. Not a bad song on there, not one that you don't like to listen to. It doesn't happen often, but it's awesome when it does. So what is that album, if any, for you??

In my opinion Beauty and the Beat by the Go-Go's is a perfect album. The songs aren't all similar, they vary, so it's not boring, and I just love them all.

*Note: This does not include "The Best of..." or "Greatest Hits" albums, or any variation like that. Of course those are going to be good!! Besides, there are even occasionaly songs are there you won't like.

Re: Perfect Albums

This is an interesting question. I find myself more attracted to full albums with getting older I think - as teenager I already preferred full albums, but really loved only two or three songs of an album. Now I listen to a complete work of an artist without skipping songs mostly.

Still, the question keeps being tough, because being in love with all songs on an album is hard to get. I would go with Jamie Cullums's twentysomething for this question. I never find myself skipping or finishing it before listening to (and greatly enjoying) the full album. Plus I think I do quite often.

I think the Rent movie soundtrack is the perfect album! I know every single word of the lyrics and I love all the songs!

Re: Perfect Albums

there are two that spring to mind straight away for me:

Green Day - American Idiot
My Chemical Romance - The Black Parade

I will listen to every song on both albums, the songs are just perfect!

Re: Perfect Albums

I've always thought Absolution by Muse was pretty much perfect. Some of my favourite songs by Muse are on their other albums, but this one is just pure gold. I love every single song, they're all completely original and incredible in their own ways - most notably, IMO, Butterflies and Hurricanes, Stockholm Syndrome, and Hysteria. All the songs deal with very interesting topics and ideas, and they're all so diverse, but they still seem to fit. And they mix so many different styles into one album, from classical, Rachmaninoff piano interludes to electronic arpegios, and the inevitable classic Muse-rock. Agh, I just can't put into words how amazing this album is.

And the cover art fits so well with the feel of the album as a whole. It depicts shadows of people flying, and I've always felt it had an uncanny resemblance to the Blitz bombers - that's the first impression I got, and I always get chills when I look at it.

Anyways, this album just blew me away the moment I got it. So if I had to pick one album to listen to for the rest of my life, it would definitely be Absolution. It's funny, because it's actually inspired me more than any other album - they really named themselves appropriately.

Re: Perfect Albums

I'm glad people like this thread!! I've always found the varying answers to this question so interesting.

Anyway, I've just remembered one that I somehow forgot in my original post, though how I'll never know. Oil and Gold by Shriekback. It's sort of like the album Lily was just talking about. It mixes so many different styles and yet all of them go together so well. All the songs, even though they are all so different, seem to have something about them so in common at the same time.

I love Absolution (and of course Hysteria is my favourite Muse song ) however my 100% perfect no fault album is Origin of Symmetry by Muse. I could listen to it and nothing else for the rest of my life. The OoS songs are always the best ones at their live gigs and they're so diverse and full of energy. It still blows me away, even though Ive listened to it hundreds of times.

If I had a runner-up it would be Kid A by Radiohead.

Perfect album? Pretty much anything by Pink Floyd - but especially "The Wall" and "Dark Side of the Moon"... fantastic albums!

Re: Perfect Albums

"Nightfall in middle earth" by Blind Guardian , its the best album ever done!
Its inspierd by Tolkien's book "The silmarillion" .
The vocalist (Hansi Kursch) is the best singer on this earth , the lyrics awsome , the music is magical and the album cover is beautiful.

I like You Are The Quarry by Morrissey. I've listened to that for over a year on a daily basis. His lyrics, warm voice, the sound, just a great album by a great man :-)

...Metallica's S&M double disk with the San Fran Symphony orchestra comes to mind. I liked those version better than the "regular" versions.

Tear Down the Walls - Martin and Neil

I originally wore out the vinyl version, but I could always play the songs in my head; that's how often I listened to it. A few years ago, I decided to look for the CD on Amazon and they had it. Now, whenever I want to listen to an album, that's my first choice. Godspell is my second choice.

Re: Perfect Albums

Metallica's Black Album is one of the best albums that I've ever listened to . The songs seem to have good themes to them and the lyrics are good as well.

I agree with both of you. Couldn't choose between the two.

Another album that for me is perfect is Ben Folds Five's "Whatever & Ever Amen".

Re: Perfect Albums

Blink-182's self titled album (sadly their last) is my personal all time favorite album ever. I can listen to every single song on it over and over again. Every single song is just a little different from the others, but they all carry a similar vibe. Some call it emo, but if it is then its the best emo that I've every heard. If only they would have stuck together, because AVA and +44 just aren't quite the same.

Nebraska -- Bruce Springsteen.

Wonderfully bleak and the tone builds throughout.
