Best song ever written

I did a search and didn't find anything but im sorry if it has been discussed, i was just wondering what do u guys think the best song ever wrtten is or what is your favourite song of all time is.

IMO Mr. Brightside by the killers is a modern classic and i think i will still be listened to and loved in 20/30/40 years time, by new generatinos as well.

Another song which i love is like a prayer by madonna, im not sure why but i would say it is my favorite ever. All i know is i used to watch the video over and over again when i was younger on my dads copy of madonna's immaculate collecton of videos lol.

So what do you guys reckon?

Re: Best song ever written?

That is a really hard decision to make. I really can't think of one in particular that I like that much more than any other to say that I think it is the best ever written. I do however happen to love Journey's Dont Stop Believin'. I don't know a person who doesn't love that song!!!

This is a great idea for a topic but there are going to be like a million people on here arguing because they all are gonna disagree. That is why I wanted to try and reply first.

I'm gonna go with Imagine by John Lennon. I'm not sure exactly what classifies this as the best song ever written, but I personally think it is. It's so pretty.

Re: Best song ever written?

I think the problem is that you cant define what makes a 'best song ever written'. A cong might have good lyrics but if the performer can not sing then does it still count? I dont think there could possibly be any contendors from the past 20 years or so. While there have been a fair few decent performers there are some classic songs from the 60s/70s/80s that cannot be beaten.

Re: Best song ever written?

hmmmm..... there's so much good music in the world that this is really hard. GOOD Thread!!! I don't think that it's possible to decide on one song that is the best song ever written, but here are some of my faves!
Broken-Lindsey Haun off the broken bridges soundtrack you can listen to the complete song here :
http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm...ndID=207129333

I love almost anything to do with Carrie Underwood! um, next would have to be (this only applies to those of us who live in the U.S)
Angry American and American Soldier by Toby Keith, sadly, it's not on myspace, so i can't let you listen to it. uM, next would be Crashed, and Over you by Daughtry!!! you can listen to them both here:

http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm...endID=61489218

hmmm. I also LOVE Natalie Merchant's "Life is Sweet" "My skin" and "Thick as Thieves"!!! this is for the non-country or rock fans, it's easy listening and I LOVE it!!! You can listen here:

http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm...ndID=106538451

hmmm.... Done for now!

I hadn't realized Alice had come to stand behind me again. "And you ducked your head, like a good southern gentleman, and said, 'i'm sorry, ma'am.'" Alice laughed at the memory.
Jasper smiled down at her. "You held out your hand, and i took it without stopping to make sense of what i was doing. For the first time in almost a century, i felt hope." (page 301 Eclipse Stephenie Meyer

Re: Best song ever written?

I'm sure I'm a tad biased, but "Hey Jude" by The Beatles, and "Butterflies and Hurricanes" by Muse. Those are the two that popped into my head right away.

"Hey Jude" - need I really say it?

"Butterflies and Hurricanes" - you just have to hear it to know why I picked it.

Anyways, I definitely don't know all the songs in the world, so I can't say for certain that those are the two best songs ever written. But they are my two favourite, and they're my favourite for a reason.

ooooh, I love Hey Jude. Others:

-Tiny Vessels by DCFC has amazing lyrics, haunting guitar...I get shivers everytime I listen to it
-Wonderwall by Oasis (The beatles fans now hate me. But the beatles are awesome too!) never gets old
-Do You Hear the People Sing from Les Miserables. Any song from Les Mis, actually. They are so powerful!
-Hey There Delilah: I know most people hate it because it's overplayed, but WHO doesn't want their special person to write them a song like Hey There Delilah?
-Unchained Melody depending on who sings it. Same with a lot of the classics

There are a lot more. I'm glad no one has mentioned a Fergie song or anything :P

Re: Best song ever written?

Excellent thread!

In my opinion, the best song ever is Hallelujah by Jeff Buckley. Leonard Cohen wrote the song, but Jeff completely made it his own. It’s heartbreaking and beautiful at the same time.

Other amazing songs:
Losing My Religion by R.E.M
Don't Stop Believing Journey

The Beatles can’t be left out. I think the honour goes to Let It Be, although my favourite is Here Comes the Sun.

Interestingly, Rolling Stone Magazine complied a list of The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time in 2004. Their choice for number one: Like a Rolling Stone by Bob Dylan.
