Re: How Do You Discover New Music?

The most regular methods of discovery for me would be via YouTube or specific threads on forums.

For the longest time it was the radio. Now it's usually through Youtube or by watching tv and checking out the songs used in the episode if I've never heard it before.

The radio and friends mostly. But youtube has been a good source too.

Pandora. It introduced me to Jack Penate.

I suggest listening to Alt-J.

Re: How Do You Discover New Music?

I'm not a person to discover new artists daily and add them to me "repertoire". I usually gradually add artists if I discover someone that I REALLY like. So I can't really remember clearly how I discovered my current favourite bands. I know that my ultimate #1 favourite band I discovered about 7 or 8 years ago when I was still in elementary school. Everyone was playing their new hit song at school (it's probably the song would be called their "most famous" song). And the rest was history . Another band I like I discovered about 3 years ago when I kept hearing about them everywhere. And I found out my friend was a huge fan when I asked her about them, then she sort of told me more about them and got me into them. Another band actually opened for a band I went to see. Sometimes I'll become a fan of artists from the radio too.

Spotify and BBC 6 Music. Unfortunatley I do'nt listen to half as much music as I'd like anymore, but I just got a new computer that can actually handle iTunes/Spotify and Chrome running at the same time, so I'm getting back into listening again.

By accident sometimes; and from Rolling Stone magazine.

People assume that time is a strict progression of cause to effect, but actually from a non-linear, non-subjective viewpoint, it's more like a big ball of wibbly-wobbly, timey-wimey stuff...

....I miss David Tennant....

Re: How Do You Discover New Music?

The best music that I have found as of late was in background to tv (shows and ads) and or movies.

* "Angel" - by Theory of a Deadman, is background to a current advertisement to upcoming new seasons to great shows on Starz channel. Hadn't heard of them before and really like the band.
* You can download The killers vs of "Don't fence me in" on the Nevada website right now, for free. It's the background to Nevada ad trying to drum up tourism in their state.
