Re: Eurovision 2011
Yes, I realise the bureaucratic and commercial rationale, but none of which alters the simple geographic fact that Azerbijian is not part of Europe.
That said, I'm even more baffled by the on-going popularity of what is essentially a festival of ordinary songs.

Re: Eurovision 2011
Australia or Canada are for example is also members of the EBU, but nnot active ones. Qatar thinks about entering EBU (which they are legible to) to be able to enter the Eurovision, at least that's what I just read.
But... but... buuuut some traditions should be kept and cheesy pop songs, sob-stuff ballades and Schlager music is one of that. This is all we want!!! (all I want)

Re: Eurovision 2011
^ yes, it is. my family watched it this year together too and we even started bets on winners and what countries will place in the top 5.
thing is, more popular bands (see Blue this year) enter the contest and songs are even played in the radio. Lena last year was a HUGE success in Germany (which I do not understand but okay) and the EUrovision is getting more and more publicity each year. ANd this year I had a feeling a lot of songs were perfectly made for normal radio and stuff. Like I heard Lady Gaga's new song a day or two after the Eurovision and would have bet a lot that that was an entry from the Eurovision until someone said that was the new Gaga song. So Eurovison and current pop songs aren't even that different anymore. Certainly a lot of stuff has changed regarding Eurovision in the last years.

Re: Eurovision 2011
I think the "camp" element of Eurovision is now largely dead. It's become a much more professional and polished event.

Re: Eurovision 2011
My favourites from 2011:
Estonia (so catchy! ![]() Germany and of course Ukraine, which should have won! D: I didn't like at all our pick(Greece's) this year. I mean, I would like it if it just had the bouzouki, which is traditional, and the song was catchy anyway, the rap ruined it all for me :/

Re: Eurovision 2011
It's possible that he still sings well, although if I were to pick someone from that generation, I'd pick Paul McCartney, Mick Jagger, or Elton John. Preferably Paul McCartney.

Re: Eurovision 2011
Have to say, he's grown on me as a contestant (at least he's really keen and has decades of performing experience to draw on), but the song isn't doing it for me.
Anyway....I'm closing this now, as the new thread is up. Enjoy! |
