Re: Best song ever written
Clearly the award for best song ever written should go to Rebecca Black's 'Friday'. With lyrics like 'Gotta get my bowl/Gotta get cereal', I mean, that stuff speaks to a generation. Deep.

Hey, Soul Sister by Train has been my favorite since it first debuted. It's simple, but sweet.
Not Alone by Darren Criss (not the AVPM version, his original) It speaks volumes to those of us who often find ourselves lonely.

Re: Best song ever written
I have mentioned this song sooooo many times on this forum and I probably really annoy some people because I won't shut up about it.
![]() After searching this thread and finding that no one had brought it up (at least I think, maybe I didn't search properly ![]() Now, I do not really believe in the existence of a "perfect song" because I can think of at least 40 songs right now that I really love but I would never call perfect. Except for the one I am about to mention. Nothing Else Matters by Metallica. I have never heard a more perfect song. Ever. In my whole life. I listen to it every day, and I have yet to find something wrong with it, something that I would change. Everything is just pulled off perfectly, and the title of "Best song ever written" or "perfect song" for me, goes to Nothing Else Matters and no other song can get in the way of that.

Re: Best song ever written
In my opinion the best song ever written is Into The New World by Girls' Generation. The lyrics are just ingenious - not just a typical love song, but something more. Check the lyrics from here.

Re: Best song ever written
Number one has got to be "O Children" - Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds. What an umbelievable song. And GREENSLEEVES!!!
Also: "Imagine" - John Lennon "Dance While the Sky Crashes Down" - Jason Webley (check it out! Very few people have heard of it, and it's AMAZING) "With or Without You" - U2 "Time" and "Shine On You Crazy Diamond" - Pink Floyd "Into The West" - Enya "Like A Rolling Stone" - Bob Dylan "What A Wonderful World" - Louis Armstrong "Paint it Black" - Rolling Stones "Life On Mars" - David Bowie "Father Of Mine" - Tom Felton (I was bawling at the end of this song. So simple, yet touching. Check. It. Out.) "Bohemian Rhapsody" - Queen "This Is Everything", "Welcome Home", "Like O like H" and "Dark Come Soon" - Tegan and Sara "No Bravery" - James Blunt (practically every James Blunt song is amazing) "House Of The Rising Sun" - Animals There are more, but too many for one post...

I can never pick but right now my favourite song is Through the dark by Alexi Murdoch and basically anything by Bob Dylan is right up there in the list. Oh and Here comes the Sun by the Beatles... anything by the Beatles actually brightens up my mood

Re: Best song ever written
I second this.
I was about to list Imagine as well as What If by Emilie Autumn "What if I'm a snowstorm burning; What if I'm a world unturning? What if I'm an ocean, far too shallow, much too deep? What if I'm the kindest demon, something you may not believe in? What if I'm a siren singing gentlemen to sleep?" With lyrics that contradictory, yet somehow complimentary, well, I just have to like it, especially given that I did a similar thing with the username I often use: MortalEternity. She has pretty much stopped preforming that song, but she preformed it on the last tour for the shows that sold out... AND OURS WASN'T ONE OF THEM.

Re: Best song ever written
It's impossible to just name one song as the best song ever. There are so many great songs. And there's still so many I haven't even heard yet!
Anyway, these are just a few of the songs that I think belong in the top songs of all times: - It's Alright, Ma (I'm Only Bleeding) by Bob Dylan - Paint it Black by The Rolling Stones - If You Belonged to Me by The Traveling Wilburys - Cornerstone by The Arctic Monkeys - Eleanor Rigby by The Beatles - These Days by Bon Jovi - One Headlight by The Wallflowers and:

In terms of writing, nothing beats Ballad of a thin man by Dylan. Wow. Biting, angry and poetry down to the last note...brilliant...

Quote:
I think in terms of writing, no one really beats Dylan anyway. There are so many of his songs that are not only still relevant, but also still funny, touching and unparalleled.
