That would make sense, and further explain the role of the School Governors; that they would manage/maintain the school trust fund. Great idea snapes witch!

Could love possibly be something that works against Veelas?
Hmm... I don't think so. I haven't read GOF for a while, but I'm pretty sure both Harry and Mr. Weasley also reacting to the veela, although not as much as Ron (which I just assumed because Ron is... well, Ron).

If I recall correctly, Mr. Weasley blushed, got flustered, or did something of the sort to suggest that he felt the Veela's power. However, his resistance to it could come out of his love for Molly, or from his expectancy of what was coming.

Didn't Mr Weasley turn his head away so that he wasn't watching the Veela do their dance thing. This tells me that if you look or watch the Veelas do their thing it will effect you no matter how much you love someone already .

Re: Little Questions Answered v.17

When they are at the Quidditch World Cup, it seems that the music the Veela dance to has a strong effect on Harry.

GoF,The Quidditch World Cup...but then the music started, and Harry stopped worrying about them not being human - in fact, he stopped worrying about anything at all.
The Veela started to dance, and Harry's mind had gone blissfully blank
.

Also later on Mr. Weasley tells the boys to put their fingers in their ears.

GoF, The Quidditch World Cup 'Fingers in your ears!' bellowed Mr Weasley, as the Veela started to dance in celebration. Harry screwed up his eyes, too; he wanted to keep his mind on the game.

I've actually always wondered what difference it made, putting your fingers in your ears.
Surely it would be enough to close your eyes and just not see them dance?

Perhaps hearing their voices has an effect as well?

Right, or perhaps it's the music, see TreacleTartlet's post above ^
I never noticed the music part before somehow

I have always thought of the Veela as Sirens. According to wiki Veela are Slavic Nymphs ....

I don't think it matters who you are in love with. I think resistance has a lot to do with will power.

What? The veelas are something else that didn't originate with JKR?

Re: Little Questions Answered v.17

A silly question. It's been quite along time since I read the book and I'm afraid the film has confused me. Why did it come out as Voldemort killed Cedric, when in fact it was Peter Pettigrew/Wormtail?

Btw, in the films they did never explain why he had two names, but I assume this isn't the right thread to discuss that.

Because Babymort gave the command to "kill the spare". Would a wuss like Peter have done it on his own?

To your second question: POA movie never explained the Marauders at all. Not even the names on the map. (But that's for a thread in Muggle Studies.)

But Peter must have also used Voldemort's wand to kill Cedric, or he would not have come out of it in the Priori Incantatem.

Yes, it was Voldemort's wand that he used to kill Cedric.

Why wouldn't Peter just kill Cedric with his own wand? Did he even have a wand at that point?

I don't think Peter had his own wand at the Graveyard. Either that or he lost it during his confrontation with Sirius. Twelve years is a long time, especially as a rat. It's entirely possible it simply got swept away in the sewers or something. And the wand Ron takes from him at Malfoy Manor was made after Ollivander's capture.

Re: Little Questions Answered v.17

I think that Peter Pettigrew only had a wand after the capture of Ollivander. Besides, he never had much use for a wand of his own. With Voldy incapable of using his own, why bother carrying wround two wands with only one person physically able to use it? At least, that's what i think.

Re: Little Questions Answered v.17

Is it possible to summon a person? Harry attempts to summon Hagrid in DH. But it didn't work because of Voldemort's presence, iirc. So normally can you summon a human?

Re: Little Questions Answered v.17

I seem to remember at the Yule Ball in GoF when Padma Patil got mad at Ron and left to find her sister Parvati, who at that time was dancing with a boy from Beauxbatons, Harry notices that the Beauxatons boy 'conjures up one of his friends to join them so fast that he could have sworn he had zoomed him there with a Summoning Charm.'

In all probability, the Beauxbatons boy actually did use a Summoning Charm. Hence, I would say yes, you can summon humans.
