Re: College and Universities

I've changed what I want to do so many times. xD Right now I'm leaning towards History. I'd like to become a historian and write illustrated books on the Vikings, the Picts, and other peoples.

But that will probably change. 6 months ago I wanted to be a forester planting baby trees, and a year ago I wanted to be a nurse.

So... idk. xD

Re: College and Universities

Oh, the number of times it's changed. English, International Studies, Art History, Theatre Arts, Comparative Literature..considered Philosophy, Psychology, and History a bit as well..as you can imagine I'm a bit behind now. I wish I had more time to finish some of them up.

I do have my AA though and I'm currently a junior majoring in English-it's the one thing I always tried to keep as a second major or minor. I'm debating changing it to lingustics though and minoring in English instead, but I've never had the chance to take any linguistics classes so I'm not sure how much I'd actually enjoy the work...plus I'm running out of time and it'd mean taking summer and possibly winter classes as well at this point. My real goal is to get my MLS (Masters in Library Science) as well as a certificate in Rare Book Studies so I can manage Rare Books/Special collections.

Linguistics majors, etc. please feel free to share any insights. I love languages, recognizing patterns in the seemingly abstract, and understanding how the mind absorbs/retains language, as well as the role language plays/played in different societies. I guess I'm just wondering what the actual work would involve.

Re: College and Universities

I received a BFA from Cornish College in theater arts and arts education.

I will be attending SFSU this fall for secondary education to teach English at middle school (6-8th grade) level.

Re: College and Universities

It really changes depending on which university I get accepted to. So far, the majority I've applied to is for a major in political science. Then there's the joint-major in criminology/women's studies (my top choice, but didn't hear from the university yet </3), and a major in legal studies from a different university.

Like I said, all depends where I end up going this September. (:

Re: College and Universities

I'm undecided on my major right now (im a junior in high school). All i know is that I am definitely minoring in dance, so I'm going off of that. Right now I'm highly considering Montclair University in New Jersey and Hunter College in NYC. Has anyone ever studied there? Your input would be greatly appreciated

Re: College and Universities

Currently studying Nutrition at UMass Amherst. I may minor in voice and/or dance next year, but my workload is already heavy so I don't know if I'll be able to handle it. I would love to though so that I don't lose those skills!

Re: College and Universities

I'm planning on going to UF and majoring in Neurobiological Studies. I'm not sure about my minor, I'm thinking maybe Mathematics? And then Med School after that.

Re: College and Universities

Ideally, I'd like to go to Georgia Tech and study Information Security.

A Minor? Something travel-ly. I know GT has sister campuses in Ireland and Europe.

Mine is very random--Linguistics. It's the study of human language. Not every linguist knows more than one language, but it really helps. Personally I know English and Spanish, plus I want to learn more.
Just happened to see the OP and had to comment that Linguistics is what I hope to major in. I find it really fascinating.

I'm about to start senior year of HS so I'm in the college search process right now... I'm looking at smaller liberal arts colleges. My top 2 choices are Swarthmore and Reed. (and they both have linguistics majors)

I hope this isn't against the rules for me to say - I considered Reed as well and my teachers all told me not to go. They said the students were sort of unfriendly and elitist, and I definitely got that impression from the staff as well when I went to an information session - first impressions aren't everything, though! I'd definitely encourage you to visit before you make any commitments, though.

I'm studying nursing, four years to go but I can't wait

I currently go to Texas State University and I'm a duel major, studying Photography and Chemistry. My counselors call me crazy and pretty much rightfully so : P

Are you planning on combining them, or do you just like photography? Just curious, because I'm a (potential) biochemistry major and I've considered majoring in studio art as well, but the studio classes conflict with my labs. I'm just sticking to a minor in East Asian Studies.
