The best addition that didn't get shown for me was the Obliviate scene at the start of DHp1, even though we knew she did it, I would have liked to have seen it from her perspective at least but I realize that probably wouldn't have been wise, but still Emma Watson did it so amazingly and had the tears going already

There were actually quite a few things from the movies, especially PoA, that I thought were extremely well done (even better than I pictured from the description in the books).

The time-turner sequence in PoA was extremely well portrayed and honestly explained more efficiently than in the book.

Dolores Umbridge was actually better on-screen than in the books. Don't get be wrong, she was positively awful in the books, but the extra bit of sickeningly-sweet demeanor that Imelda Staunton brought to the role was incredible. Her "innocent" facial expressions were priceless.

Not sure if anything was better in the movies... like so many have said: "the books win everytime"

But of course the acting makes things better than my imagination. SO what I like best about the movies are the line deliveries, the stressing of the words, the expressions. And sometimes it's the short lines that make it to my favorites.

For example: Slughorn's "Merlin's beard!" and Snape's "Obviously" haha or George's "Morning..." Now when I read the books I read the dialogue lines as if the actors would be interpreting them. I try to imagine how they would say lines that didn't make it into the films and that makes the books even better than they were before!! So, thank you films! haha

Re: Is there anything in the movies that you like more than in the books?

The scenes that stick out the most for me is where Snape shove Ron and Harry's heads in GoF when they were talking about their Yule Ball partner predicament XD

Another scene was where Snape whacks Ron's head after being interrogated by Umbridge
Umbridge: You applied first for the DADA post, is that correct?
Snape: Yeeess...
Umbridge: But you were unsuccessful?
Snape: -______- Ob-vious-ly...
-ron s*******-
-Snape whacks Ron on the head with his book. Ron looks up in dismay-

Cracked up so hard at that scene. It wasn't necessarily better than the book scene since it was MUCH shorter, but nevertheless, a very good scene.

Then there's the Obliviate opening scene of DH Part 1; beautiful and really touching. That I think, was so much better than Hermione merely stating how she wiped her parent's memories and made them think that they wanted to live in Australia, because it showed how much Hermione was sacrificing to help Harry. Amazing scene.

The only disagreements that are kept, for the most part, are the major ones (e.g., Ron leaving Harry and Hermione in the forest) that simply have to be retained for plot reasons.

It may be that this is common generally in novel adaptations, but having almost finished reading the books in preparation for watching the final film, I noticed this quite distinctly.
Precisely. I was going to say that.'And that is in fact the one thing i like better in the movies!

SPOILER ALERT SPOILER ALERT SPOLIER ALERT HARRY POTTER 7 PT 2

When Harry duels Voldemort all around the castle, that was so epic, much better than a verbal fight before the good old Expelliarmus vs Avada Kedavra, which was dissappointing -_-

Also, I have to add that , as much as I dislike Film 4, the Yule Ball scene was exhumberantly well done. Everyone dancing and Ron, Harry and the Patils sitting a bit afar and looking bored really made me uncomfortable. It looked so awkward, much more awkward than in the book, which really really worked for me.

Now that I have seen all the movies.

I can definitely say the one thing that I adore however brief it was, was the closeness and affection in Harry's and Sirius relationship.

You really feel the loss after witnessing the hugs and smiles, arms on each other shoulders. It felt the closeness was a little less in the books, maybe due to the fact Jo knows that after being in prison it takes people awhile to adjust into society and home life again.

Re: Is there anything in the movies that you like more than in the books?

A few things I remember (I'm sure there's more):

1. Ginny running after Harry outside of the Burrow. Although it never happened in the books, it made Harry and Ginny's relationship stronger and more romantic which I love since there wasn't that much to appreciate in the beginning.

2. The dancing lessons before the Yule Ball. I love Professor McGonagall - she seems so maternal and caring which I think she is in a way towards Harry. I love her!

3. Ginny yelling at the end of DH. Again, makes Harry's and Ginny's relationship stronger.

4. The kiss between Ginny and Harry during the battle..."I know"

I love the scene in which Voldemort takes posession of Harry's body after his duel with Dumbledore in OOTP. The way Harry fought him and in the end, triumphed because he knows "love and friendship" just added so much more feeling and message to the movie. But then again, they didn't show Dumebledore's conversation with Harry about the death of Sirius, which I thought was hugely important to the story and gave quite a lot of consolation.

That was one part I thought was the most disappointing, because they fought all alone outside. Where were the cheers and overall relief from the Hogwarts crowd? I think that was much better in the book..

Re: Is there anything in the movies that you like more than in the books?

Off the top of my head, I prefer the film version of the Ministry of Magic sequence in Deathly Hallows because it really tightens up what seemed a bit lolly-gagging in the book. I like how they had Ron join Hermione and Harry in the courtroom, how Harry wasn't idling under the Invisibility Cloak most of the time, and especially when they're running for their lives at the end. In the book they almost make it out without incident and it all seems much more calm... I love how in the movie you really get the sense that they're running for their lives, papers flying everywhere and grates slamming shut one by one, with Ron running just behind the others as if he could get caught at any moment, glancing back, a horrified expression on his face... and they just barely make it! It feels much more urgent, chaotic, and dangerous than in the book.

The splinching scene just afterward is better in the film as well, I think. In the book it's like ho-hum, Ron has a chunk out of his arm, now he's fine!, but in the film you really get the sense that Hermione is upset and scared for his life, and then afterward when she sets up the protective barriers with blood on her hands... it's really chilling, compared to a fairly forgettable scene in the book.

Whenever my husband watches this movie with me, at that part he always mock yells "I'm the king of the world!" a' la Titanic.

I liked when Draco said to Goyle in Chamber of Secrets I didn't know you could read and added a surprised face, loved it!

I love that line! Makes me giggle every time.

I think one of my favorite changes from the book to the movie is Hedwig's death. I can't remember if I already posted about that on this thread or not! But I think Hedwig's movie death was so heroic. Loved it!

Re: Is there anything in the movies that you like more than in the books?

I really like the scene in OotP where Luna talks to Harry about the Thestrals. I think it was a nice moment for Harry to see that someone he didn't know believed him, it was better than the way she told him in the book.

Also Harry confronting Snape in the Great Hall in DH2. I really liked it better than when he was hidden under the Cloak, even though the duell between Snape and McGonagall was better in the book.

Yes the scene where Snape is killed. As much as I hated seeing him die I thought him looking at Harry with a caring look and saying that he had his mother's eyes was perfect! I thought the scene where Hermione slugs Draco was hilarious! I think the best scene was the way Voldemort's death was done. I thought for the people who have not read the books it really made everything finalized.

I completely agree with Umbridge. I thought she was brilliantly portrayed as just being evil and sadistic in the movies. Even more so than in the books.

Aragog's funeral in HBP.

Obliviate

Harry and Hermione's dance scene.

The Ministry chase in DH1

Gringotts in DH2.

In both the Ministry chase and Gringotts I thought they did a great job of imparting the terror Ron feels. You just feel terrified with him.

The casting of the shield charms by the teachers in DH2.
