A couple of dozen fans ranting on a messageboard - some of them expressing themselves very boorishly - proves squat about the popularity of an actor.

Some of the comments (Who's this Micheal Gambon fool anyway?) actually tell us more about those fans!

[quote=Devon_Evans]Ok let me introduce to you all, this little phrase I like to use:
“IN MY OPINION” meet everyone in the forum!!!!
Seriously you people should start using it. Just because YOU don’t like the way some of the actors act, doesn’t mean they cant! That’s your opinion. In my opinion most of the cast is superb, especially the trio.

that's because you don't know what you're talking about...in my opinion

rupert's the best of the trio but he's still got alot to learn. emma is very over dramatic about little things and dan lets you know what he's going to do next, before he even does it. that's frustrating.

i don't like that way they made ron such a whiny baby. and the change in the geography of the hogwarts grounds.

i like michael gambon's dd because i always pictured hhim as an energetic man that kinda floats and inspires people. don't get me wrong, i love richard harris, but he seemed kinda dead on his feet.

Some of you are very harsh towards Michael Gambon, and it's uncalled for. No, he's not Richard Harris, but it's not as if he booted RH out of the part or anything. Every actor has their own interpretation, just every director does. I do think that RH's DD definitely acted more like how I pictured DD. He also had a great warmth about him. MG brings something different to the role though. He's got more spunk and passion. I'm refraining from fully judging him until I see Goblet this weekend. MG had a tough act to follow, and I think he's doing his best.

And who is to say that Ian McKellen would have acted JUST like Richard Harris did? Perhaps Ian didn't WANT to play another wizard after the LOTRs trilogy.

I don't have a problem with the movies, I really enjoy them, and the acting keeps getting better. And I think MG is doing a great job. However:

- Kloves giving important lines from other characters to Emma/Hermione. Hermione is a great character anyway, but Kloves really likes her character so I guess he feels the need to take lines from the likes of Ron and Dumbledore that are characteristic of them and show in that one sentence what they're like.
- How they made Ron out to be wimpy and Hermione Wonderwoman.

That's about it. I just really don't like how much they took bravery from Ron and gave it to Hermione, making her act like a heroine/the main character. That seems to have only been in POA, and GOF seems to have gone back to the actual personalities of the characters, which I'm glad for.

That's how I feel. Richard, IMO portrayed DD as some old, weak wizard who can barely croak out sentences. Michael Gambdon looks intimidating, yet charming. He is almost exactly how I expected Dumbledore to be. Maybe 1 or 2 scenes he is off, but I think he captures Dumbledore better. In my head, the thought of Gambon dueling Voldemore at the MOM looks much more believable than Harris. just mo

o, the location of the new quidditch field in GOF. Its like on some mountin a mile away from the school, and the maze was in the quidditch field in the GOF book and it wasnt in the movie trailor

Well, considering he was already suffering from Hodgkins' Disease while filming and died before movie #2 even came out, could explain it.

I agree with most here that Gambon doesn't project warmth, strength and wisdom. He also lacks that twinkle that Dumbledore is known for. The only thing he has done well is how to be excentric, over the top, in fact. It just seemed to me like DD is supposed to be this witty, grandfatherly figure not some scary old man that would freak you out if you were to run into him in the alleyway. LOL. The new DD just looks like a dirty old man. I hate to say it because I love DD but everytime my fiance and I watch PoA, we find ourselves saying how much me missed Harris' Dumbledore. And after seeing some of the trailers for GoF, I'm afraid I'm already disappointed.

Oh well....

And what's with Harry and Hermione always hugging and touching each other? How are we suppose to believe that Ron and Hermione like each other and that Harry is crushing on Cho when every clip and promotional poster you see has Harry and Hermione hugging? Just not believable. I hope I'm proven wrong but considering the amount of hugging and handholding H/H shared in Cos and PoA, I doubt it. It just seems to be getting worse and worse in every movie. I'm almost afraid that in OoTP, we'll see Harry getting his first kiss from Hermione and not Cho...scary. I hope they stop doing this by HBP, I can only hope.

Oh well....again.

Gin

That's the only downside IMO to this new DD lol, he looks so filthy. Like in POA, when him and Mcnair and fudge were walking to Hagrid's cabin, his robes looked dirty as hell

I'd LOVE to see the new DD in some clean, Wizard-robes

Yeah, I agree Dumby looks dirty. Did you see his nails in PoA? They were all longish and yellow. Very gross.

I like Micheal Gambon but nobody can replace Richard Harris. He will always Dumbledore in my eyes. But a positive thing about the new Dumbledore is that he, in my opinion, captured more of Dumbledore's eccentric behavior and made more quick, witty comments. But the old Dumbledore had more of an ancient, mysterious, etheral sense. iIif they combined into one person, their special qualities would make the perfect Dumbledore.

The more I see, the more I really dislike the movie versions of wizarding clothes. They are nothing like the ones described in the books. I'm disappointed in what I've seen of Madame Maxine's costumes, too. Wasn't she supposed to be stylishly dressed? She looks like she's wearing a glittery sack in one pic. I think these costumers should invest the money and actually read the books for ideas. Instead they seem to be building upon the mistakes from the first movies. Rather disappointing.

Hmm i disliked the way areas of hogwarts changed, ie after the new director was introduced.
I like the way the Gryffindor's common room at the top of a stair case, where originally it was down a corridor, Hagrids hut moved from being just out of the school to now being down a tunnel no where near the school next to what appears as a little forest where the trees are all set apart.

Quidditch players used to come out of a tower to play, where as now they just walk onto the pitch and take off.

On the Dumbledore issue of only ever think of Harris as the DD when i read the books, the new guy just doesn't capture the feeling of having mysteries within him, rather more like he's an open book.

I thought fleur might be a little better looking than i have seen on the billboards and trailers she looks more immitating than someone you can't keep your eyes off.

Hagrid and all the Weasleys have the perfect actors playing them even percy.

I kinda like the new setting, but the forest is supposed to look scary and it lookd real bright in there.

Also, did anyone see the Dark Mark in the new trailor? It's grey, I thought it was green?

Here are my top 5:

1) The acting, as a whole, sucks. Sorry to all you Dan and Emma lovers, but I really do not think that the two can act. And with their characters being the 2 most important that just makes the whole movie horrible.
2) Everything is wrong. The miniscule details that are everywhere in the book are changed for the movies. I understand that some things have to be changed for adaption purposes, but when you change that much it just bothers me.
3) Most of the books are left out. Sure, there's the time issue, but I go see movies to enjoy them, not to watch the time while I'm in there. Just make them extra long. I'm sure all the HP fans wouldn't object to that.
4) They have changed the characters somewhat from how they are in the book. Just little things that I noticed that really bother me. Emma's hair isn't bushy. Did anyone else notice that at some points in the PoA movie there was no scar on Dan's forehead?
5) Some of the actors, to me, don't fit their characters. Most of them do, but some of them I think would do better in other roles or not there at all.

I'm sorry, but Emma makes me mad in the movies. It isn't that I don't like her, or think she can't act. If I couldn't see her in the movies I'd be happy. But as many of you have said, she's just not, well, ugly enough. Her hair isn't bushy and she doesn't have buck teeth. Another thing is that annoys me about a lot of movies is how their content comapres to the book's. I like movies where they are completely different from the books. I also like movies that are almost exactly the same. But sometimes the HP movies look like the screenwriter just didn't read the books well enough and made some mistakes.

the thing that annoys me about the movies most is ron saying "bloody" all the time. that was cute/funny the FIRST time but now its just annoying.

i agree. i think she's a good actor (best of the trio) but her look is not right. i imagined her hair as it was on the train in philosopher's stone through all of the books. when it was really bushy.

- I never liked Richard Harris's Dumbledore. He just didn't capture the essence of the character, the energy, the quirkiness, the eccentricity. I found him to be the major disappointment of the first two movies.
- They're not ruthless enough. There are so many scenes and plot elements in PS and CoS that should have been cut - instead, they just end up clogging up the story, leading to terrible pacing.
- A bit more wit and a bit less face-pulling from Ron would be nice.
- "Is that really what my hair looks like from the back?" Terrible line.

I guess they had to pick someone who was reasonable attractive as who would want to watch someone ugly for over half the film <no offense> and who would believe smeone like Viktor Krum would be attracted to her.
Anyway she has her teeth fixed at the end of CoS yet no one realises it until GoF which i found odd anyway so overall its not a big problem.

i guess the movies are okay, but i can't really stand it when they leave out important information (like the backround info on the marauders in poa). that annoys the junk out of me!
