Re: His Dark Material

I love HDM. The Subtle Knife is my favourite but I adore the other two as well. I haven't read any other books by Philip Pullman but I definitely plan to.

Re: His Dark Material

I simply hated HDM! The most chintzy, boring and brutal books I ever read.

Re: His Dark Material

I am so glad there is a thread devoted to this series. I recently finished it and I just loved it. I'll admit, it was difficult to get into initially. I had to read it for a class and I doubt I would have read past the first chapter was it not assigned reading.

Oh, but I was so glad when I did. I just fell in love with Will and Lyra, and the last two books in particular were my favorites.

I'm not sure how I feel about them making a movie out of it. It's so controversial, and I'm afraid they will water it down too much and it will come across as bland.

Also, they will have to get strong actors to play the two kid leads, much stronger than the HP actors ever dreamed of being. I hope they are willing to search beyond the borders of England for the perfect actors.

Has anyone else noticed, speaking of bad actors, that Emma Watson is as fan of the series? That raised my interest level in her a bit.

Thank you! Another person who thinks Emma Watson sucks!

That is interesting that she's a fan...but she's also a fan of corona beer *yuck* so that doesn't say much.
Hmm...I'd rather they kept the actors as British, but if the need arises I certainly don't mind having excellent foreign actors. Lee Scoresby is Texan, anyway.

Re: His Dark Material

Yeah, at first I thought that an all-British cast would be rather bland for Harry Potter, but now I can't even imagine it without ^^; I hope they keep it all-British, or pick some people with really good accents. (I haven't read the books in awhile... were there any non-brittish characters anyway?)

Out of the two, Will was my favorite. Lyra was just so... I dunno, just something sometimes...lol, I want to go back and reread these again now :P I don't know how it happened but I have 2 The Subtle Knife books ^^; Both paperback, but different covers. I think I might've lost one and decided to buy another but I don't know for sure.

Re: His Dark Material

The Subtle Knife, definitely. I don't know why, but it's kind of like "the calm before the storm" in a way, y'know? Plus that's when Will came into the picture and Will = my favorite character
