I just finished "Mockingjay" by Suzanne Collins. Now on to the theater to catch the Hunger Games movie before it goes away...

Re: Your current read v6

My brother and I started James and the Giant Peach by Roald Dahl yesterday. I haven't read it before, but it's so much fun reading aloud to him from one of the authors I grew up reading.

I finished Atonement by Ian McEwan, which I found very boring (but I really liked the movie), so now I'm going to focus on Tolkien again. First up is The Legend of Sigurd and Gudrún, and after that I hope to start The Children of Húrin. But I'll have to reread the Wheel of Time by Robert Jordan series this year as well, as the last book comes out next year, I'm not sure when I should start with that. It will take some time.

The last book? So how many does that make it because I have yet to start the first one?

14! They can be a bit slow, but I love them. The first time, I read about one book every week, but I expect it'll be a bit slower this time. Hope you enjoy them if/when you decide to start!

Re: Your current read v6

Sebastian Faulks A week in December:-

This is my book group book for April. I had been warned that a lot of the group were not enjoying this book, but I find it quite compelling. There are a lot of characters but I have managed to cope with that because they are all very different! It's unusual for me to like a book when I don't like a lot of the characters ( some of them are vile!) but I will certainly finish it - I want to find out if some of the characters reap what they sow!

I'm going to give it 8/10 so far - I will write again in the other thread when I've finished it!

No, it's not that many. They are thick though, excellent size on all the books.

Re: Your current read v6http://www.cosforums.com/newreply.php?do=newreply&noquote=1&p

Just recently finished:

Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs, and The Moth Diaries by Rachel Klein.

I read the latter because I saw some movie version of the story and then heard it was based off a book by someone who was saying the movie was stripped of all the more interesting psychological elements. I would say I agree as I really enjoyed the book and I thought the movie was rather forgettable. But I could see why it was difficult to adapt, and can see why they simplified it the way they did. The narrator of the story is never even given a name in the book - which would be impossible to do in a movie version given she's the main character and the story is all told from the girl's diary - what she's written - which again is hard to adapt.

I'm now onto Neil Gaiman's American God's. I have no idea if I will like it or get through it(I don't force myself all the way through books I can't get into unless I have to). I heard they were making an HBO series out of it and it's a NYT's best seller, so I'll give it a try.

Right now I'm struggling to get through Breaking Dawn. I don't think I've ever had so much trouble getting through a book.

A Visit from the Goon Squad by Jennifer Egan which I picked up from my local library. Trying to ignore the cover which is mainly covered in awards and good reviews because I don't want to get my hopes up, I didn't actually know much about the book before starting it so I want to make up my own mind!

Re: Your current read v6

I'm with the second volume of The Count of Monte-Cristo, in French. I had to drop my French lessons, and Dumas is quite funny a way to keep it on my head. And anyway, I have plenty of time to read in the underground...

Re-reading The Importance of Being Earnest by Oscar Wilde, as well as reading the play A Doll's House by Henrik Ibsen and The Moon and Sixpence by W. Somerset Maugham, all in preparation for my AP Lit test in two weeks.

I've also started A Tree Grows in Brooklyn by Betty Smith, something I've been wanting to read for some time.
