Re: Have you ever cried while reading a book

I shed a tear when I thought Harry would die, but other than that I don't recall crying over a book. I have gotten sad, but not where I wanted to cry. It takes a lot for me to cry at movies, too, so that probably has something to do with it. I mean, I think they're related.

Re: Have you ever cried while reading a book

I cry all the time while reading. I think it's a sign that the book is truly well written. The worst time I cried was while reading DH, when Harry used the Resurrection Stone and was walking through the forest to Voldemort, to die. It was packed with so much emotion. I had to put the book down for a while after that scene! It's still probably the only scene that I go back and re-read and STILL bawl like a baby.

I also cried at Sirius's death, Dumbledore's death, Hedwig's death, and Dobby's death.

Jodi Picoult always makes me cry. Mostly in My Sister's Keeper and Nineteen Minutes. So so so sad.

Re: Have you ever cried while reading a book

I cried my eyes out during my first read of Deathly Hallows. I think it was as much sadness about the many deaths as about the irrevocable end of such a great series.

The Awakening made me cry, too. Such a beautifully crafted, tragic novel.

Re: Have you ever cried while reading a book

I cried in OotP, HBP, and DH because of character deaths and how emotional some parts of the book are. The only other book I remember crying in right now is The Kite Runner and A Thousand Splendid Suns. They both impacted me a lot because of the brutality depicted. It just furthers my distrust of people, to be honest, after reading how cruel they can be. And what makes it worse is that the events in the book are very realistic.

I actually was pretty unmoved at the end of the book. But I think that's because my teacher told us a "small spoiler" (her words) about the end of the book:
Spoiler: show
Edna would commit suicide which could be interpreted as her freeing herself through death or an act of cowardice.

Thankfully my teacher didn't reveal the most important part of the book, right?

Re: Have you ever cried while reading a book

I'm generally not one to cry at fiction, but I sobbed for hours after reading OOTP. I cried at HBP and DH too, but neither one was as bad. The book Pretty Little Dirty made me cry. . .I can't think of any others off the top of my head.

Re: Have you ever cried while reading a book

I'm not much of a cryer while reading books.
But i did cry at the part when Dobby said that he was happy that he was with his friends again. From that point, i just cried all the way through. So sad.
Maybe, i would shed few tears in sad books.

Re: Have you ever cried while reading a book

I cried when I read a book called "Ask Alicia" It was a real story about a girl -Alicia- who became a drug-addict. The book was a recompilation of Alicia's diary from the first time she, unaware, did drugs, until her premature death. It was a very sad book, because Alicia wanted to stop using drugs, yet that addiction is very hard to fight...

I cried while reading the Notebook and I never cry while reading a book. Or at least, I can't remember the last time I did.

Those deaths quite got to me, as well. But the one that really made me cry, was when Prim died. I didn't get what happened at first, I thought it was just Katniss injured with the bomb. I only noticed it when she awakes and realises what happened. I felt so sad, because after all she'd done to keep her sister alive and safe from the Capitol, she dies by the hands of the rebels themselves

Agreed this one really upset me because it made it seem like everything katniss did for her, by stepping in and taking her place in the games was for nothing. I felt like it ruined the whole initial point of the series. One of the many reasons i was so torn by how i felt about the last book in the series.

Re: Have you ever cried while reading a book

I don't really cry that often when I'm reading. Even when I find a book really sad, I don't usually cry. But, having said that, I was very upset when I thought Harry was going to die in DH and I shed a few tears. And I cried reading A Thousand Splendid Suns and The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas.

Re: Have you ever cried while reading a book

I'm not much of a crying person but there is three books that have made me cry. In order for me to shed tears, it needs to be REALLY emotionally packed. If I feel I can relate in any way or if the emotion is just so well written, that is when I will usually cry or get misty-eyed.

1. The Host by. Stephenie Meyer
While I usually don't cry while reading her books, but the last chapter in this book (right before the epilogue) it made me shed a few tears.

2. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows
While I didn't cry through out the whole book there where a few points when I cried. The first was Dobby's death, that was just so powerful. ( Honestly who didn't cry at that part? lol) The second was Fred's death, like a punch to my gut, pretty much my favorite character was dead!!! Then finally Harry's walk towards Voldemort when he saw Ginny. His thoughts at the time is what made me cry. Him wanting to call out to her, to let her drag him back but he couldn't do it. That was just tear-jerking!

3. Before I Fall By. Lauren Oliver
OMG! This book made me sob!!! The ending!!!
Spoiler: show
When you realized that Sam was going to die all along.
It just killed me...the minute I got to the end I just put the book down the I broke down. It was that powerful!

Oh my word, I was in floods of tears at this point! I'm awful for crying at books. I'll list just a few books that have made me cry:

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - When Dobby died I actually had to put the book down and repeatedly tell myself over and over again that it wasn't real and was just a story!

The Book Thief by Markus Zusak
Glue by Irvine Welsh
Blind Faith by Ben Elton
The Rotters Club by Jonathan Coe

Re: Have you ever cried while reading a book

I just finished Shiver by Maggie Stiefvater and the whole second half of the book made me cry. It was ridiculous, but I had to stop reading several times to wipe my eyes.

Through all the deaths and horribleness that happened throughout the book I didn't cry. But when Katniss and Peeta did the book at the end of all the people who died, I cried. Remembering all those characters who died and the unfairness of their deaths and the world they lived in was just too much. When Haymitch came in and added all the kids he had to watch die it made me think about how sad his life had been. This was a way for the three of them to begin to heal from all they had been through.
OMG I cried and cried during that part. It was so terribly sad.

I finished reading Sing me to Sleep by Angela Morrison last week - omigosh. The last 50 - 60 pages were so heartbreaking! I don't think there was a page in that last part that didn't make me cry. Bawling my eyes out..

Re: Have you ever cried while reading a book

I cried the first time I read DH when Harry walks into the forest, I always break when it starts talking about Harry, Snape & Voldemort being the lost boys or something to that effect and then when Harry uses the Stone

Quite a few people seem to have cried during Mockingjay, I did but not at any of the deaths.
Spoiler: show
When Katniss goes back to 12 and she just doesn't do anything, and of course after that when her, Peeta and Haymitch start making the book - I just start bawling every time
