These are the ones I have read:
  • The Lord of the Rings by J.R.R. Tolkien
  • The Diary of Anne Frank by Anne Frank
  • The Bible by Various (only parts of it)
  • The Harry Potter Series by J.K. Rowling
  • His Dark Materials by Phillip Pullman
That is few, but some of the other books in the list I plan to read during 2009, so ask me again around Christmas!

Thank you. To be honest, though I only did it to make sure to myself that I wasn't lying about any of them

Re: 50 Books to Read Before You Die

My list is rather pathetic. It's a start I guess.

I've read:

1984 by George Orwell
To Kill A Mocking Bird by Harper Lee
The Harry Potter Series by J.K. Rowling
Huckelberry Finn by Mark Twain
The Bible by Various

I'm in the process of reading:

Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte (started and still haven't finished...I got the Cliff Notes just to help me understand what in the world was going on)
Lord of the Flies by William Golding (started and my darling puppy ripped my copy to shreds)
Catch 22 by Joseph Heller (heh, started this today)

You haven't read them? Well, the bold ones are written by Jeffrey Archer, the one with the italics are written by Arthur Hailey and the underlined ones are written by Iris Johannson.

All of them are fictions and mostly thrillers. I highly recommend each and every one of them. It is highly entertaining and is highly informative.

Re: 50 Books to Read Before You Die

  • Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen
  • The Diary of Anne Frank by Anne Frank
  • The Bible by Various (parts of it)
  • The Harry Potter Series by J.K. Rowling
  • The Wind in the Willows by Kenneth Grahame
  • Alice's Adventures in Wonderland by Lewis Carrol
  • The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time by Mark Haddon
  • The Outsider by Albert Camus (the French version)
I thought I'd have read more of the list than that. There are some I plan on reading and several that I've seen film versions of. I tried reading Lord of the Flies before but just couldn't persuade myself to read past the first few pages, which is not usual for me.

That's as much as I have read. Though there's a couple books on the list I have always wanted to read, but I haven't done it yet.

I have to say, I don't agree with the list when it comes to some books.

Hey! What's wrong with the Divine Comedy? Moby Dick I can see, wretched, the whole lot of it. Ulysses isn't too bad.

I didn't make the list, I just bought the bookmark.

It's lovely, there's just so much of it! And all of it heavier than an cannonball.
I've never even tried Ulysses. I've heard that it's not for the fainthearted.

Anything by Joyce is not for the fainthearted. He writes in what is practically a new language.

Life of Pi is a wonderful book and I seriously encourage everyone to read The Kite Runner, which is not on the list. Also, White Teeth and On Beauty by Zadie Smith should have been on here. As well as reading the Bible, everyone should also read the Holy Qur'an.
