Books you like but no one else has read?

There are a ton of books that I have read, most of which were recommended to me by other people or are very popular books. Ex: Harry Potter, Twilight, Pendragon, LotR, etc. are my favorite books but everyone reads them. What books have people read that no one else has heard of? Right now I'm reading a book called "Surrender," by Sonya Hartnett. It is very good. When they are just boys, Gabriel and Finnigan make a pact that Finnigan does the bad things for both of them, and Gabriel (hence his name) is an angel. As they grow up, Finnigan turns those words against him and does terrible things that Gabriel never could have predicted. Meanwhile a number of other terrible events in Gabriel's life weaken him greatly, and he becomes very ill. Definitely worth a read.

What books have other peeps read that no one else has?

Re: Books you like but no one else has read?

Le Bossu, by Paul Féval. A wonderful "cloak and sword" novel (you know: love, hate, treasons, duels, lost children, and looooooots of fencing) that almost nobody I know has ever read; it's also almost impossible to find in bookshops, though an editorial re-published it some years ago, and my neighbourhood's library had the kind detail of buying a copy.

Scaramouche and Captain Blood, by Rafael Sabatini. Both adventure novels, too, with all the typical ingredients, but mesterly written. Some of those books that can make you book-addicted if you're not careful. I had a crush for Captain Blood for weeks, and everybody looked at me as though I was a Martian, because they didn't know what I was talking of.

"The Scarlet Pimpernel" series, by Baroness Orczy. The same that the previous ones.

National Episodes, by Benito Pérez Galdós. A series of 49 short novels through which the author tells the story of the Spanish XIXth century. Everyone has heard of them, because they're named in the Literature books at High School, but nobody I know (at least, nobody younger than 50) has read. It's true that I've not read them all yet, just the 20 first, but I'm working on it. The first 10, telling the Independence War, are just great (the next are less exciting), but I've not convinced anyone to read them.

Re: Books you like but no one else has read?

There are plenty of good books out there that aren't very popular. Once you read the most popular books and you start looking at less popular ones, you'd be surprised at how many there really are!

One book that comes to mind is The Two Princesses of Bamarre by Gail Carson Levine. It's not as popular as Ella Enchanted, but I found it to be a very good read. A bit cliche, with princesses and dragons and quests and wahtnot, but I enjoyed it a lot.

I'm sure I'll think of more later...

Um really? Twilight is now incredibly popular- just look at this thread I actually know lots of people who read it in real life too. It's getting almost as big as HP was!

The Ravenmaster's Secret is one that I haven't seen or heard anyone reading. It's a really good book. Unfortunatly I've forgotten the author's name.

Yeah, cos I'm in Australia, and Western Australia for that matter, no one's heard of them, except for my friends who work in the bookstore.

I'm a hardcore Twilighter though, a fanpire or a twihard what ever we are called these days!

Oh, I see. Here in America, and over in Britain too I'm told it is extremely popular.

It's meant to be popular over here too - it's number somethingorother on the Kid's Top 100 list.

Every time I go in to a bookstore, I do a Twilight check. I went into seven bookstores in Perth, and four didn't have Twilight, although one had an advertising poster. Two only had Twilight, and one only had Eclipse.

That's strange. Here in Melbourne they're in all the bookshops.

I love anything by Caiseal Mor but nobody knows who he is.

I haven't seen the Twilight series in any of the bookshops around here! I love Wuthering Heights and Little Women and classics like that (my very favourite is A Little Princess by Frances Hodgson Burnett), but no-one except my bestest friend has read them!

A lot of people haven't heard of The Magician's Guild trilogy by Trudi Canavan, about a very different kind of magical world. None of my friends have heard of it. Also, Witch Child by Celia Rees, based in Salem when witches and the Devil were greatly feared.

The Host. It's actually really good, but no one that I know of has read it yet.

Crown Duel...I found this book at the library like 5 years ago and I kept re-reading it, so I finally bought it (it actually started out as a duet, but now it's one book with two parts), and I've read it so much that it's split in half.

Oh! I read that when it came out and really enjoyed it! I didn't like the sequel, Sorceress, nearly as much though.

Re: Books you like but no one else has read?

I've recently gone back to reading mysteries. I love Agatha Christie and Rex Stout, but hadn't found anyone to replace them until a few months ago.

I usually browse the books for sale in the library and picked up Music Box Murders by Dr. Larry Karp. Since Dr. Karp is a neurologist and a collector and restorer of music boxes, so is his main character, Dr. Thomas Purdue.

I loved the book and picked up the next two through Amazon, only to find out he hasn't written another Dr. Purdue mystery since 2002.

Then I found the Mrs. Pargeter mysteries (also on the library sale table) by Simon Brett, only to find that he hasn't written any new Mrs. P mysteries in years, either.

But my luck has been pretty good, so I'll continue to haunt the library sales.

Yeah i've read them ones. They were pretty good. I had to read it for school though and no one really liked it except me. Hehe.
I got Sorceress from the library but didn't like it that much specially after Jaybird died.

Hazel, not a nut by Gillian Lobel is a great book. Whenever I ask people if they've read it, they always say no.

Another one is You don't know me by David Klass. I've made everyone in my school read it though and most of them like it.

There are thousands of books that aren't popular but are brilliant. I can't remember half of them now...

The Gemma Doyle trilogy. It's my second favorite series, Harry Potter being the first, naturally. I only know a few people that have read it and the fandom is so inactive. I know a lot of people like the books - especially Twilight fans - but no one does anything. There's only, like, four lj communities for it. It's sad. And there is a forum but only sixteen people joined it. I've gotten two friends into it and another friend interested, but it's not that popular.

I picked up the first book in the Gemma Doyle trilogy, and really liked it too! However, my three bookstores don't have the next two, nor do Borders in Perth
