Re: Rate the Last Film you've seen

Doubt: 8/10. Meryl Streep was magnificent, the film subtle and complex, carefully avoiding cliches and commanding the viewer's attention and expectations, but alas too short for me.

I want to see that film now, badly!

I saw one part of the BBC Jane Eyre adaptation starring Toby Stephens, so I dunno if it counts. I'll still rate it: 8/10

Ghostbusters - 10/10. I absolutely love this film. One of my favourites.

Last I saw at the cinema was Yes Man - 6/10. I wasn't particularly fussed about seeing it but my girlfriend is a big Jim Carrey fan so I got dragged along. It was ok, but I wouldn't be upset if I never watched it again.

Seven Pounds - 9/10

I think Will Smith gave one of his best performances ever, and the performances from the rest of the cast were great. This film was almost perfect, and the plot was great, as well.

Paul Blart, Mall Cop - 5/10

A few parts were funny, but most of it was just kind of stupid.

Doubt: 10/10
Immensely intelligent, but more importantly: A lot of today's ambitious directors really need to watch this film to help remind them that cinema doesn't always have to be about 100% visual storytelling. There are far too many current big shot names who take the "show, don't tell" guideline of film making way too literally--actors are trained in acting for a reason, cinematographers are trained in photography for a reason, and writers are trained in writing for a reason.

Kung-Fu Panda on DVD: 8/10
It could have gone in a slightly more epic direction + slightly longer story/running time. But I enjoyed it way more than Wall-E.

Coraline: (6/10)
There was something really off and kind of annoying about it, IMO. I was really ready to like it, too!

Re: Rate the Last Film you've seen

I just went to the Adelaide premier of 'He's just not that into you' (my friend had free tickets) and considering it's a romantic comedy and a total chick flick, it wasn't too bad. The acting was good, it was pretty formulaic and predictable but otherwise ok. 7/10

Re: Rate the Last Film you've seen

over the weekend i saw he's just not that into you, id give it a 8/10.

Im not sure cause i havent finished the book, but i was a little disappointed with the way the movie ends, because I think, as far as ive read so far in the book it kinda defeats the point the book is trying to make. I think they just tried to give it the pretty much good happy ending most romantic comedy type movies get.

Yeah, I saw it too. The look is stunning in 3D - stay through to the very end of the credits for some amazing effects. I also loved the look of the scene walking down the theatre aisles - the sense of depth with all those rows of seats was remarkable. However, storywise you really had to totally suspend any critical examination of where did the evil spirit come from, how does the connection work, what are the limits and why, etc. I wonder if the book gives a bit more along those lines. In that regard, it's kind of like the feeling I had from Mr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium - looks great, fun movie, but the magic-stuff is just kind of out there, take it as it is.
