Re: Albus Severus Potter: Character Analysis

He's gotta be in Gryffindor, he's just gotta!

Just because Albus' middle name is Severus doesn't mean he's going to befriend Draco Malfoy's (spits on ground) wretched little kid. For all we know, Draco taught Scorpius about the killing curse, Avada Kevadra, just to use it on Albus! Highly unlikely, I know, but Draco is a bit...over the top?

Even so, I hope Albus is in Gryffindor! Wouldn't it be great for Jo to right a new book with Albus as the main character?

Albus, the Second

Re: Albus Severus Potter: Character Analysis

Lets look at the reasons Harry said 'not Slytherine!": He was told the person who murdered his parents was in that house (big minus), Hagrid didn't exactly praise it, Ron said it was only for dark wizards and Harry wanted to be in the same house as Ron, Draco was going into that house and Harry instantly disliked Draco.

What little Al has heard about Slytherin: His father says the bravest man he has ever known was in Slytherin (big plus), his brother teased him about it.

I don't know what house Al will be in but I doubt he will say "not Slytherin!"

However, all his relatives on every side were in Gryffindor. Being born in a wizarding family, I'm sure he has learned much more than Harry about the different houses, and he'll know all about Slytherin's reputation for producing evil wizards.

Re: Albus Severus Potter: Character Analysis

I loved Albus as soon as I met him. What a touching symbol of Harry's normal life. I thought the Snape tribute was entirely appropriate. Harry is able to realise that Snape did an amazingly couragous job as spy. And yes I believe that James' middle name was Sirius. Possibly Sirius Remus.

I still can't believe that Harry named his son after Snape. I mean, ok, it turned out that Snape was on the good side, and in love with Lily, but still. So many years he treated Harry like scum, has been unfair to him, and let's face it, no matter all the regret he felt, he still WAS the one who told Voldemort about the prophecy, and the reason Harry's parents are dead. Did Harry really forget it all, excuse everything Snape did to him? I don't know, but I thought that was a bit bizzare.
But that was all for a reaon and Harry realised that.

I thought it was more odd that Harry/Ginny would give their son such awful names as 'Albus Severus'.. that poor child. Of course there is a significant emotional connection with the names but none the less...

Re: Albus Severus Potter: Character Analysis

What I find more striking is that Harry didn't name one of his sons after Sirius. But, I think that just shows how much he was grown. As a 36 year old man he is able to see how people change and how you think you see someone as a child is not not the way that person may really be.

Harry idolized Sirius and despised Snape. He saw Sirius and his father in such a favorable light and it disturbed Harry when he found out they were not all they were cracked up to be. They were in fact bullies, the very thing Harry hated, to Severus. I liked how the books show the other side of them and Harry's reactions to it. Harry was able to see what Snape was really like and I think it is fitting he gave one of his sons the name Severus.

At the same time, I like to think that his son James had middle names that weren't mentioned - after all, everyone else has middle names we didn't hear about until this book - and that Harry would have given his son James the middle name of Sirius, and maybe even Remus - as a nod to the three Marauders who were with him at the end.

Re: Albus Severus Potter: Character Analysis

Isn't it odd that a character that was on page for about two pages is already so popular. I think JK needs to look into that.

But I would like to think that Albus ends up in Slytherin and Draco son ends up in Huffelpuff- wouldn't that be a kick. But since the book sort of suggested that Snape would have been placed in Gryffindor if he wasn't so keen on being in Slytherin I think Albus might end up in Gryffindor

Maybe I just have a bad mind, but naming one's kid for one's mother, the other for one's father, and the third for a man who had an insane crush on your mother his whole life, is just...wrong!

Imagine finding out that you are named after this creepy guy who was obsessed with your married grandmother. Brrrr....

Re: Albus Severus Potter: Character Analysis

I think what would be really cool is if Al Potter had to see the headmaster/headmistress and saw DD and Snape in portraits on the wall. Meeting the heroes he was named after would be a good experience I think.

I get where you are coming from....but I have to disagree. Imagine finding out that you are named after the man who gave his life for your father.

Harry's children are named for his two parents, and the two men who's role in his life lead to his defeat of Voldemort adn ultiamtely his survival. I think that (while being a bit of a mouthful), Albus Severus Potter is a pretty epic name. It wraps up the series in three words.

Re: Albus Severus Potter: Character Analysis

While Albus Severus ending up in Slytherin seems a bit unlikely knowing his family background, it has the ingredients for a great story.

While James has inherited his namesake's brashness, I can imagine Albus turning out to be an exceptionally gifted and creative wizard. It's not too hard then to imagine the hat tipping towards Slytherin as it did for Harry.

There are strong hints that the 2 brothers have a some kind of rivalry going on, which could become more serious with this. Maybe they'll fight over some girl, their ages being close enough. Of course, they are brothers, and Potters too, so it couldnt be too bad, kind of an Albus/Aberforth thing.

A.S.P. has a bright future ahead of him, that's for sure, and why not, many, many years from now, a place as headmaster?

Re: Albus Severus Potter: Character Analysis

I think Al will end up in Gryffindor because he is so much like his father. Harry had the exact same reservation when he first went to Hogwarts. Al's journey will be much different though from his father's because Al has his brother and his cousin to look after him and vice versa. So since he doesn't want to end up in Slytherin he will be sorted like Harry was.

Re: Albus Severus Potter: Character Analysis

I didn't pick up on the ASP from the initials, that's very interesting. Albus Severus does seem to be the odd one out/special one of the group, with his green eyes and all.. I wouldn't be surprised if he ended up in Slytherin. I would hope, like his first namesake, he is one of the "exceptions" to Slytherin and doesn't turn out bad as some have.

I kind of get the vibes that James is more like of a Weasley than a Potter. I feel that James has characterics of Fred/George and as Ginny says, Ron, that Lily has taken after Ginny and that alone of his 3 children, Albus is a Potter. Harry's (thus Jame's) features, and Lily's eyes. That makes it even more touching that he is named for DD and Snape.

Re: Albus Severus Potter: Character Analysis

I think Al will end up in Griffindor. After all his father told him that if he wanted it enough he would be. He seemed to little, innocent and cute to go "oh forget the family name I want to be in the most despised house in Hogwarts no matter what Dad said about it not mattering." Definitely a Griffindor no matter how amusing it would be for him to go elsewhere. He's a Potter/Weasley highbred for crying out loud. They HAVE to go in Griffindor. There's some sort of rule I'm sure!

Is it? UM... Patil twins - One Gryffindor and one Ravenclaw... I doubt belonging to the same family means you end up in the same house is some kind of rule.

I certainly wouldn't want to end up in the same house as a couple of my Siblings ... who I know would be Gryffindors. I don't get on with one very well ... I would want to be as far away from him as possible, but that's me personally.

Also Albus fear's stemmed from his bratish horrible brother's teasing. Seems like I'll never like a James Potter eh?
