Re: N C I S

Who was Colin Hanks?

With all the build up to that crash, then to see
Spoiler: show
Tony & Ziva walk away with very little injuries, I was like, really?! It'd have been more realistic I think to have them with som pretty serious injuries.

But I did enjoy it. I have to wonder what'll happen as the season winds down.

Psst... I haven't seen it yet .

Spoiler: show
That really doesn't make any sense though . Hey it's a bird, it's a plane... it's super Tony and Ziva !!!

Re: N C I S

Spoiler: show
Tony had a broken nose and a concussion (from banging his head into the steering wheel that had no airbag) and Ziva had a sprained wrist and a strained shoulder from the impact

Colin Hanks is Tom Hanks' son. He's been cast as a supposedly tough, careerist investigator tasked with reviewing the team's handling of the latest debacle (which they resolved, but--it looks bad). Basically, he's in Vance's shoes after Jenny's murder. I suppose we could call him Milquetoast Toothpick.

Just saw the episode. It was pretty good for the most part.

Don't like him at all. I think calling him a jerk would be an understatement there. Hopefully things go over well and the issue gets taken care of, since he seems to be WAY too much of a snoop there .

Re: N C I S

I agree, the resolution to the car accident cliffhanger was a little abrupt.

It seems a little odd that he picked Gibbs for the object of his witch hunt. While there are certain things about his style that people don't like, it isn't as though he is aspiring to a higher position and needs to be knocked down.

And I can't decide how I feel about Tony & Ziva. They are certainly maturing as people, but I'm not sure she respects him enough to have a lasting relationship.

Why should she? Someone explain this to me? He's handsome, somewhat charming, and he means well, but it feels like he gets a Ron Weasley pass from the NCIS fandom. I can't understand why.

Yea that's what I was thinking as well. Why go after him... unless he's trying to find a way to go after the Director (Vance)... that's my best guess on that one.

Good point. I'm still rooting for them though, come hell or high water .

@ jordmundt: How does he get a Ron Weasley pass from the NCIS fandom?

Spoiler: show
Holy cow... last night episode was pretty good. Still worried about Gibbs though.

Loved Abby's way of dealing with you know who though ... just priceless .

Any other thoughts on this episode?

Why should she what? Respect him? I'm not saying he isn't a respectable guy, I'm just saying that the way she interacts with him doesn't seem to indicate respect, and I think it's important to respect the person you are with if the relationship is going to last.

Re: N C I S

I actually don't think this is about respect, though. She cares about him, she sees him as a trusted friend (something that requires respect), and her relationship with him is one of the most important relationships of her life, but it's just not a romantic one.

Why would she ever EVER want to be in a long-term intimate relationship with him beyond friendship? He's a loyal friend, he's entrtaining and often funny, but as a romantic partner? It feels that the Tiva shippers who advocate most strongly for Tony somehow see a firm romantic relationship with Ziva as Tony's prize for surviving all the various disasters that occur in the course of the series--just as Hermione ends up being Ron's consolation prize for sidekickery in the HP series (though Hermione deserves much better, and I can only see that being a happy marriage/household if there was never EVER any sort of personal, political, psychological, or economic crisis ever, EVER again). Ron is an example of the Fred Vincy stacked deck phenomenon, and Tony might be if pushed to extremes.

It's as if because Tony and Ziva work next to one another, their relationship must automatically parallel Harm and Mac from JAG or Booth and Bones on Bones or Fox and Dana on X-Files, or Addison and Hayes on Moonlighting. Why?

On a much more important subject. Wow! They had Colin Hanks channeling WK Stratton for this finale. And they burned the whole house down on the most popular scripted series on American TV. That seems like a radical and very short-sighted move.

Thanks for explaining that, jordmundt. Can see where you're coming from on it to a degree.

Don't see any harm in their relationship going in either direction, to be honest. If it ends as a friendship, it's been a fun ride, and if it ends with a romance, then it's been a fun ride as well. They've both grown and developed as characters and it's been enjoyable seeing them getting to know one another.

Don't really view it that way (It feels that the Tiva shippers who advocate most strongly for Tony somehow see a firm romantic relationship with Ziva as Tony's prize for surviving all the various disasters that occur in the course of the series) myself, since they both went through god knows what, and it would be great if things worked out for them, whether it's as friends or as more than that.

Re: N C I S

Any thoughts on the bellyflop into an empty pool that was the season finale? Seriously, it's like they had a Corvette in the garage, totaled it and took it the nearest bodyshop asking for quick repairs. I remember thinking the JAG Season 8 cliffhanger and Season 9 premiere were deliberately crashing an excellent show out of fear. But this seems at least 10 times worse. The ratings are as good as they've ever been; there's a full, rich cast, and they've gone in very interesting directions and now for shock value they burn everything down on a guest arc? Ouch!

Didn't think it was all that bad, jordmundt. It should be interesting to see where things go with it. As long as they don't jump the shark, I'll be ok. Hopefully Gibbs and co. will be ok -- that's what counts.

What did you find wrong with it?

I thought that it was a little off. And the last scene with Gibbs being Sniper Gibbs has me hoping that there's more to it than what it appears.

Re: N C I S

Colin Hanks channeling W.K. Stratton very poorly throughout the episode didn't help. To be fair, this is the third time we've had a season finale where it looked like they were burning the house down and they recovered from it. The most serious one was probably Jenny's death scattering the team to the four winds, but Amnesiac Jethro quitting in MTAC was a close second. This sort of combines the worst of the Jenny situation and the Jethro quitting situation. The adversary (Hanks' character) is banal. Every member of the team but Abby is positioned precariously (professionally, not personally yet) and it looks like they burned off Fornell, their most interesting and fun recurring character outside CGIS Abby Boren purely for shock value. Ugh.

Ah, I see. Don't like what they did in terms of Fornell either . Liked the guy .

Spoiler: show
I wonder if he's some kind of mole or something... that would kind of lend some credence as to why Gibbs is forced into the position of possibly killing him...

@ baseballblondie: Maybe. It seems as if there's more to this than what we know of as of now.

My opinion about the Fornell thing:

Spoiler: show
That the FBI is the escort detail for Gibb's actual target, who is going to exit the car after Fornell. I don't for a minute think Fornell is the target, or that Gibbs would be sent to kill him.

Good point, OldMotherCrow. That would make a lot more sense. Guess Fornell probably is the red herring on that one. Killing him off would be a mistake.

Yeah, Fornell is great. I usually look forward to episodes when I know Fornell will be in them

Gibbs looked surprised when he saw him. I think Gibbs would not have looked surprised if he knew that Fornell was his target, and he really has to know what his target looks like beforehand.

On another note, FBI means Gibbs is on a mission on domestic soil.

And on yet another note, I've been waiting years to find out what was in Decker's Insurance Policy, and Gibbs... burned it.

Actually not a bad move. I think they let too much potential intrigue pile up over the years-- too much to ever use in a satisfactory way, so Gibbs decided he didn't want to play that game and used a fiery reset button. I find myself surprisingly okay with it.

Maybe the guy that Gibbs is aiming for is the SecNav that is annoying. Or better yet Grainger from LA. One can only hope on that aspect.

Same here . The guy is usually pretty funny.

Good point. Maybe he was surprised that he was guarding the person he was supposed to kill... Or that he was with the person he was supposed to kill...

Ah.
