Re: Phantom Of The Opera The Movie

I saw it on the big screen and I liked it, but I hardly got what was actually going on as most of it was singing and I'm deaf, so I would love to see it with subtitles...

The phantom was a little crazier than I expected and not as good looking....but I think it was just the actor who played him that was weird, not the character....The girl who played Christine was a little annoying too....other than that it was really good though!! Haha and Raule (spelling?) was really good.

Re: Phantom Of The Opera The Movie

Yes I really like the movie I got it on DVD. The music is so incredible, I just love it.

This past June I had the chance to see the Theater production not at Broadway but at the St. Louis Fox theater and it was absolutely fabulously. The special effects were awesome, it truly felt and looked like they were floating the boat on water, but it was just good effects with fog and lights. Anyone who ever has the chance to see it on stage go, especially if you liked the movie. Its well worth the money

HA! This is the 3rd thread that I've seen since the movie was announced! There was a really long thread a year ago, but it fell silent.
Anyhoo, I am also a HUGE Phan. I've been able to see the broadway show and the movie took my breath away. The featurettes on the extended DVD are really good as well.

I like the movie alot - I am just not that happy about the man playing the Phantome... he should have been someone who was a better singer really... (not that he is bad, just I've heard so mutch better)...

Re: Phantom Of The Opera The Movie

I grew up listening to that musical as my sister found out earlt that classic was her way (now i have to listen to mozart as she is going for opera istead).. anyway.. so I know there is alot of singers who are better at that part then he was...

The movie is still fab, its just - well, I wish he was a bit MORE "the phantome"

Re: Phantom Of The Opera The Movie

I think Gerard Butler was a great Phantom. He's nothing like what's written in the book or not much like the stage version, but it's a movie and as Andrew Lloyd Weber said, the movie is a different animal than the play.
I think his screen presence was the way it should be, eerie and commanding. But it did help that he was easy on the eyes. And I know that his disfigurement wasn't disfigured enough for most people, but I think it was enough. It got the message through.
Yep, And his voice was great too. He's not a trained singer like Emmy Rossum or the guy that played Raoul, I forgot his name. They were both trained in opera. But for a guy with no music background, well he did play in a band once, he did fantastic. And the more I listened to the soundtrack, the more I liked his voice. Now I like it more than all the others. There's an emotion behind it that it's in the others.
So, yes, Wzard 1, I completely agree with you!

Re: Phantom Of The Opera The Movie

I love the movie, and I love the stageshow. I like Gerry in the role of Erik, however no one can match Michael Crawford. The point is, this movie rocks.
