Re: The Host

I honestly did not care too much for The Host. Don't get me wrong, it was a good book, well written and had a great plot. But for some reason I just couldn't get into it. Personally I enjoy the Twilight series a lot better. I think when I read The Host I just had such high hopes for it because Meyers wrote it that I was a little disappointed.

If I had the money, I'd buy it :P
I'm not the biggest twilight fan, used to like it, now don't really care, but I'd give this one a shot.

Re: The Host

Go check it out at your library!! It's really so much better than Twilight. Just thinking about it makes me want to pick it up and read it yet again.

I've been thinking about it.
I want to read it in English, though, and since I live in Austria I don't think they'd have that in the library to check out in other languages than German.

When did you cry? I got teary at the end and at the beginning when Jared was being so awful to Wanda and she was so torn.

And just to say it to someone, I really didn't like the name Wanda. Other than that, the book was perfect!

I didn't really feel any sadness from reading the book

That really bothered me much more than a name should have. Don't know why--it just grated on me every time I read it.

I didn't cry, but I thoroughly enjoyed the book. The only ambivilant part for me was the ending. I kinda liked it, but I am also kinda annoyed at Meyer's insistance on 'happy endings.' I think it would have been more fitting to go the way the whole novel seemed to be leading--destruction of the last of humanity!

I believe this is the part where I got a bit sad as well. I can't remember exactly though, I haven't read it since it first came out. Maybe I should pick it up again.

I was thinking that, too, but then I remembered that I loaned my copy to someone and never got it back!

I hate that!!!! This book is the only one I kept from Meyer, only because I think it's the only decent one she's written. I think there was a part about Jamie too that was a little sad. I thought the whole "seeker" thing was creepy.

I was just thinking the other day that I need to add my Twilight books to my classroom library because there's no reason for me to keep them in my personal library.

I bought it today I'll tell you what I thought about it as soon as I've finished it, probably won't take me too long.

Even found it in English

well, you won't feel guilty about helping the crime , they'll just get Twilight from other libraries . Instead, cover the shelves with Harry Potter

Back to the Host what do you guys think is better about it than Twilight?

Better characters. Stronger female lead. Not overwhelmed by the 'love story.' And I just like sci-fi--the whole concept of how the world was and the plight of the remaining humans was interesting.

Re: The Host

I agree, Freelancer. The characters are much stronger in the Host. And while a whole body snatcher type sci-fi isn't new, it was written in a different angle, which really did make it so very interesting.

And for me, it was just a more mature book. It's not for YA or about YA. It's an adult book written about adults. And in all honesty, Twilight was the first YA series I've ever read, since I was about 12. While for Twilight, I loved the complete abandon to unrealistic romance, I loved the Host for the more realistic feelings of the story.

I preferred the host for it's conflict with somebody's that's inside you and how that was influencing you........................I like keeping to my own head.
