Re: Which Film Is The Darkest?

I thought the HBP was the darkest because of Draco being a Death Eater. Also Dumbledore's death. It also had the least humor.

I personally think that OotP was a bit dark. It was dark everywhere, from Hogwarts to the Ministry.

Re: Which Film Is The Darkest?

For me definitely DH Part 2!
I'm 22 and the scene in Malfoy manor with all the bloody bodies on the ground made me a little uneasy. Also the Voldemort/dying baby scene at Kings Cross was also unnerving.

Yeah i agree ^^
Defo think the last film was the darkest, but I also think the the fourth is pretty grim.

Re: Which Film Is The Darkest?

Hard to say, but I think it's between HBP and perhaps DH (are we combining 1 and 2)? There was humor in all the three, but the tone was darker for a longer portion.

"What's the matter with Whemby?!"

"It's the eyes, I reckon. Unnerves some folk..."
"Not to mention the pincers...click click click click..."

Re: Which Film Is The Darkest?

The final scenes of HBP were the darkest of the series, but the rest of the movie was generally quite lighthearted, with a few darkish scenes here and there.

The darkest movie all the way through would have to be Order of the Phoenix - you really feel Harry's emotional journey here. Deathly Hallows: Part 2 wasn't quite that dark, aside from visually.

Re: Which Film Is The Darkest?

I think HBP was.

Katie Bell being hexed by a necklace. Draco crying. A little songbird dying. Harry using Sectumsempra - not knowing the results - and Draco bleeding and lying in water. Bella catching Hagrid's hut on fire and laughing. Snape non-verbally telling Harry to trust him, and getting him to lower his wand, and then killing Dumbledore soon after. Etc.

Re: Which Film Is The Darkest?

I'll say, definitely HBP. Just think, we find a teenaged Voldemort warming up to the idea of killing people to rip the soul apart and ensure his immortality, then we have Draco Malfoy (also a teenager) agreeing to take up a mission which involves murder, we also see Snape make the Unbreakable Vow to Narcissa basically accepting to commit the said murder and also putting his life in the line to make sure that Draco is safe and on top of this we have that whole sequence with Dumbledore being force-fed a potion by Harry's own hands which was making him relive his worst nightmares and then we have the Inferi coming in.... Definitely the darkest!

Re: Which Film Is The Darkest?

I always thought that Dh part 1 was the darkest. There really wasn't much humor in part 1 like there was in HBP (aside from a few jokes and stuff), but there was a lot of creepy/scary stuff: Ron getting splinched, the whole scene in Godric's Hollow, the snatchers, Hermione getting tortured. Just the whole mood of the movie seemed a lot darker than the previous ones.

Re: Which Film Is The Darkest?

Wow, I'm really surprised with a lot of people saying HBP as the darkest. There was a few scenes that were a bit creepy, and the tone of the movie seemed dark, but a lot of the film, to me, was really romance filled. It really took any darkness out of the movie for me. I remember when I saw Deathly Hallows part 1 little kids were crying at some of the more darker scenes. Like at Malfoy Manor in the beginning. Part one just seemed dark with the trio camping out in the forest with the tension high with the locket. Then you got Snatchers walking around holding bodies. The whole movie just seemed altogether dark.

Re: Which Film Is The Darkest?

Yeah, I don't get that at all... How can people still say HBP is the darkest? In my opinion it's definitely between DH1 and DH2. DH2 has a lot of death and destruction and DH1 is depressing and foreboding. Can't decide which one is darkest, really.

Re: Which Film Is The Darkest?

Of the films, I would definitely say either DH 1 or DH 2. To me, the books are a whole different story as to which I see as the darkest. But I think that the movies get progressively darker and more sinister. That's my reasoning behind why they added in some lighter scenes to the final movies- if they didn't, the movies would just be dead depressing (no pun intended...).

Ummm I'm not sure, there are certain scene's that are dark, not sure I would classified any as dark.

Re: Which Film Is The Darkest?

I agree with those saying Deathly Hallows: Part 1. To be quite honest, Part 2, while being a great movie, just doesn't seem dark to me at all. The stakes were really high in Part 1, the trio was on their own, snatchers were hunting them, the ministry fell, and all of a sudden everyone was scared. In Part 2 I think it was different because there were still all the professors, students, and Harry's close friends to help him. Plus Voldemort was growing weaker and weaker during that movie. Second would be Half-Blood Prince, but I think the cinematography makes it feel darker than it really is.

Re: Which Film Is The Darkest?

DH1, if by dark, we mean foreboding. It's one of the few times that the filmmakers allowed a contretemps from the books to survive onto the screen--Ron leaving Harry and Hermione--if only because they probably wanted to give Harry and Hermione a little alone time, if you know what I mean (and I think you do). Even that led to the Riddle-H's giving Ron a monster case of the green eyes.

I do think it's interesting that with HBP, there's a rather pronounced split, between those of us who find the continual raging of the hormones disrupts whatever darkness there might have been, and those who apparently don't see that. (Ha ha, just kidding, sort of.)

Re: Which Film Is The Darkest?

I always thought that Half-Blood Prince was rather dark, it could of course be the filming. But I never really thought the Deathly Hallows as dark, more adventurous.
