The Gameboy Thread

I've always loved my old-school gameboy, black and white graphics and all. For some reason, I've always prefered gameboy to any of those new handheld games or even videogames (which I've never owned). I especially like Tetris and the Mario/Wario games.

Discuss!

Edit: This thread includes all forms of Gameboy.

Does this thread include old Gameboy Colour and Gameboy SP? Or at least Gameboy Colour?

I hope it does along with the Game Boy Advance .

As for the old Gray Game Boy -- I have one and it still works. The only thing that I ever had to get replaced on it, is the glass.

I have quite a few Game Boy games too .

Solar Striker
Tetris
Super Mario Land
Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins
Kirby's Dream Land
The Castlevania Adventure

*will be adding in other Game Boy games as well -- if it's ok to talk about GBC, GBA and Game Boy SP*

Re: The Gameboy Thread

I'm going to go ahead and assume this is for all Gameboys. If not, I'll come back and edit the rest out. On the original Gameboy, I had Tetris and a game that had about 30 mini games on it (it was the coolest thing ever). The one with the mini games kept me entertained for hours. I think I had a Mario game at some stage too. Sadly, I don't have my original Gameboy anymore but I do have my Gameboy Colour. I had mostly Pokemon games for that. On my SP, I have Pokemon Ruby and Tekken Advance. I'm more of a PlayStation kind of person but Gameboys were always good when I was away from home because they're portable.

Re: The Gameboy Thread

I am pretty freaking good at tetris.
Every vacation as a kid, every half hour or longer road trip, every time I waited for the dentist, I was playing Tetris. And nobody ever beat me when we played with the connection cord. Heck, I even had Tetris on my calculator for high school. Tetris was the most fun game for me until Nintendo 64 came out.

I still play Tetris online at arcades, my highest score was around 512,000.

Woah, that's amazing!! Well, I wasn't that good but Tetris was awesome. It was good for moments like road trips or when you're waiting for an appointment or whatever. I never get sick of it. I wish I still had the game.

Re: The Gameboy Thread

I have a SP, bought it when I was 12. I got Poke'mon Emerald, Sims 2, Teen Titans, Poke'mon Mystery Dungeon. I'm hoping to get a Harvest Moon game. Who played harvest moon here? Is it any fun?

Re: The Gameboy Thread

I started out with a Gameboy Colour (the latest model at that time...) and Two Pokémon games, Red and Yellow for Christmas. (I'd been hooked by another kid's game..:3)

I then acquired:

Commander Keen
Super Mario Bros. (I love Mario ^-^)
Harry Potter SS
Harry Potter COS

Not necessarily in that order. Then I was realizing Gameboy Colours were becoming obsolete, so I acquired a Gameboy SP for another Christmas, along with a Super Mario Bros. Game - This time it was the One where he could turn into a raccoon and fly... I don't have that one with me at the moment so I don't know the exact version name.

I then got:

Pokémon Sapphire
Harry Potter POA
Harry Potter GOF
Pacman Classics (The one with four different Pacmans.. My favorite is Arrangement and Tetris..)
Arcade Classics (It has about 5-6 little arcade type games, including FROGGER!)

And recently I bought myself Pokémon Gold to play because I want one game from each generation.

Gameboys have always been my gaming platform (besides PC) and I love how they are so portable. One of these days I might get an Xbox or something...But that might just be to play DDR.. :3

That Mario game is called Super Mario Bros. 3 -- on the GBA and GB Sp, Super Mario Advance 4: Super Mario Bros. 3. Rather long name for a video game, don'tcha think?

Re: The Gameboy Thread

Heheh...I remember when my friend let me borrow a green Gameboy Pocket...My first game, if I remember correctly, was Pokemon Trading Card Game. I got a Gameboy Color (lime green) a little while after that, and I think we bought some Mary Kate and Ashley: Get a Clue game or something like that...I mostly bought Pokemon games after that (this is making me wonder how much money we spent on Pokemon...cards, movies, games, you name it...). A few years later I got the pink Gameboy Advance (pink...what was I thinking?), with Super Mario Advance. I got a red SP a little while after it came out, and then, maybe two years ago (or whenever they first came out), a DS. I think my favorite GB game is Final Fantasy Tactics Advance...pretty awesome. And of course Mario...Super Mario World for GBA is my favorite.

Yeah!

And Kitunen, I played that Mary Kate and Ashley game -- my friend had it! Oh, memories...

My Gameboy Colour was Yellow, by the way (my then favorite colour) and My GBA SP is a "gold" colour -- although it looks more silver than gold. If I get a DS Lite for Christmas, I want the Red/black one.

Why they released it fourth, I'll never understand.

Re: The Gameboy Thread

I've borrowed Legend of Zelda: A Link to the past/Four swords, and Mario and Luigi Superstar Saga.

I have to admit I wasn't very good at Zelda... Interesting game, but I think to enjoy it more I needed to start with the earlier games in the series...

I think I beat (or almost beat) Superstar Saga. I at least was AT the battle of Bowletta/Cackletta, but I think I beat them. (Longest battle in the history of gaming!)

I liked Superstar Saga. I was cool how you could move around the world as you wanted. Unlike other Mario games.

I also have played some of those Wario mini game games, but I don't own any. Anybody have a favorite? I might buy one at some point.

Actually, LttP was the third game released. If you're having trouble with the series it might be better to start with the later titles, like Minish Cap or Wind Waker, which are generally easier than the old school games.

Same here -- it kinda throws the balance of the series off .

Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages - I have this game and it's a blast ! I beat it once, and I'm trying to beat it again, but it's still a tough game to beat!

Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Seasons - I rented this game and it was the one that got me interested in the Legend of Zelda series in the first place .

Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins - I almost beat this game, still have to beat Wario though .

Golden Sun
Golden Sun: The Lost Age
- Both of these games were kick butt ! They had a good story line to them, good graphics for the GBA, the battling system was pretty good and the cutscenes were good as well !

Super Mario Advance 4: Super Mario Bros. 3 - My all-time favorite video game ! This game is full of action and fun and it never gets old for me to play!
