Without that incredible stroke of luck Near, the SPK, and the Kira Task Force would have been killed. It's a bit disappointing that after an entire series based on a battle of wits, it all came down to good luck in the end.

Ah, but as Near stated, Mello considered the possibility of a fake notebook, and kidnapped Takada precisely to force Mikami to take action, and then Near took it from there. Seperately, they were inferior to L, but together they surpassed him.

I agree whole-heartedly with this. Without their combined skills, they were no match for L, combined, they were, since both had aspects about them that could be seen in L.

Re: Death Note Anime

I love the anime and the manga xD
I'm a bit obsessed, really.

I've seen the first movie too. But it wasn't great...not really very good at all, really.

It just wasn't like the manga OR anime. Too different for my tastes...

Re: Death Note Anime

IMO, people should only watch the movies for what they are, as in, treat it as a different medium from its manga/anime counterpart, or else one will be disappointed with it. For what the two movies were (not referring to the spin-off since I've yet to see that), I thought they were fine.

Re: Death Note Anime

Yes, they were good as movies but compareing then to the manga and anime ruins it..but it's like that with lots of movies based on books.

I wasn't saying it was BAD as far as movies go...it just sounded like that xD
It was actually pretty cool. The special effects on Ryuk were VERY awesome.

Re: Death Note Anime

I agree with SSJ Jup81. The movies really don't have a lot to do with the anime/manga. I think if they're separated completely then it's much easier to enjoy the films. I still haven't seen the L movie. I heard it was terrible. Anybody here seen it?

The Shinigami looked really great--I thought they would look off compared to the manga and the anime, but they did not disappoint at all!

And the guy who played L had him down to a tee

I have. And yeah, it really isn't good, especially coming after the Death Note movies. L's opponents in this one were an utter disappointment, and it doesn't have an exciting feel to its conflict. L doesn't even seem so smart anymore, which is really sad.

Re: Death Note Anime

Read both manga and seen the anime. The music and voice acting is all that I liked about the anime, as the manga is much better. Got boring after
Spoiler: show
L died
though, but still was nice. Too bad so many people knew about the Note.

^ I kinda liked that. I don't think they could have dragged it out so much had that not happened.

True, true. But
Spoiler: show
I'm still surprised Ryuk let this all happen without killing Light earlier, even though he dropped his Note just for fun and to see what happened.

Well that's the kinda character he is. He just wanted to see what would happen.
Spoiler: show
I didn't like Near but loved Mello. I think the series needed them. They couldn't really have 30+ eps of L chasing Light, especially as he knew he was Kira.

Re: Death Note Anime

...Whenever I'm reminded of the anime, 'FOOT MASSAGES' is the first thing that pops in my head. XD I didn't really enjoy it that much. I haven't seen the movie though! I wonder if it's any good, but reading the previous comments, I'm getting kinda discouraged.

The manga, is another story, Obata's art is just epic. : 3

Re: Death Note Anime

As for the movies, I've seen them both and IMO, if you look at them outside of the manga and anime, it's rather good.

They arn't nearly as good as the manga, so I see them as a seperate franchise like I do with Harry Potter.

But the movie about L is not worth watching.

I don't really understand how you can like the manga but not the anime. They're identical in story and art. The voice acting is outstanding. What didn't you like about the anime?

The movies are fun to watch if you separate them from the anime/manga. Haven't seen the L movie but from what I've heard, I'm doing myself a favour.

Re: Death Note Anime

I love Death Note and own the anime box set! the complex plot is so amazing expecially Lights trick where he gave up the Death Note for 10 episodes.

‘Hogwarts is threatened!’ shouted Professor McGonagall. ‘Man the boundaries, protect us, do your duty to our school!’
Clattering and yelling, the horde of moving statues stampeded past Harry: some of them smaller, others larger than life. There were animals too, and the clanking suits of armour brandished swords and spiked balls on chains.

Agreed, I don't see why some people like the manga so much more. There's more detail in the second half with Near and Mello in the manga, the ending's a bit different, and, well, there aren't too many other difference. But it may just be my personal preference to watch anime instead of reading manga, as long as the anime is well done, because colors and moving pictures are awesome for my short attention span.

The anime features all kinds of hilarious parts like sparks flying out of Mikami's pen, and in the dub, Light yelling, "I'll take a potato chip...and EAT IT!" Not to mention the foot massage.

Re: Death Note Anime

I enjoyed it and wish to read the manga, but what really made me upset was Misa and that squeaky seiiyuu I hate her!
That's why the end is not really convincing for me

Anyways...for me ... Death Note lost its main essence when L was killed.

I hate but love Light Yagami

Re: Death Note Anime

Read the manga...loved it....I enjoyed the anime right up to the end. I did not like the way they did Light's death scene in the end. They should have stuck with the way it was in the manga...it was more dramatic and better. But that's my humble opinion.
