Re: Anime Recommendations

Can anyone recommend some good anime films for someone who wants to watch one or two to see if its their thing or not?

Well, it depends on what kind you want to see.

If you want an all-audiences cartoon with fantasy and comedy, go with The Cat Returns or Spirited Away.

If you're into romance, try Whisper of the Heart or Howl's Moving Castle.

If you're more into action/adventure, Princess Mononoke is awesome.

Sci-fi stuff, try Metropolis or Origin: Spirits of the Past.

Serious, meaningful, realistic storytelling, Grave of the Fireflies.

If you're looking for gore/violence/explosions/adult content try Akira or Ninja Scroll. (Not my thing, but popular)

Tokyo Godfathers is a PG-13 Christmas movie with adult themes. Very good.

Summer Wars is the newest one everybody's talking about.

There are as many different kinds of anime movie as there are movies. Most of what I have listed above is from Miyazaki/Studio Ghibli, for good reason...

Well since it looks magic/fantasy based I hope I'll enjoy it if I get round to watching it. The only anime I've ever really watched was Pokemon when I was a kid.

Re: Anime Recommendations

If you're into adventure/comedy, I would recommend Katekyo Hitman Reborn and Gintama. Gintama being the funnier one, it's about a samurai called Gintoki who lives in an era in which amanto have taken over Edo and samurai are now looked down upon. He will literally do anything to earn some form of money, thus becoming known "Odd Jobs Gin". His jobs vary from findin a lost pet to rescuing a city from an alien invasion. It truly is hilarious XD

Katekyo Hitman Reborn is also highly recomended. It's about a middle school kid named Tsuna who apparently is no-good at anything, living up to his elementary school nickname of "No-Good Tsuna". One day, he meets a small baby named Reborn who claims to be a hitman for the mafia family called Vongola. It turns out the baby is also a tutor, and says he has been sent to train Tsuna into becoming the future tenth generation Vongola boss! Undergoing through harsh training, Tsuna learns tht he might be worth something in life and gives it his all to protect his family from the evil forces that surround the mafia world. I love this anime because theplot is absolutely amazing. The first dew episodes are boring but once Tsuna fights his first battle against Mukuro, you become hooked XD. The art is amazing and its filled with hot guys XD

Re: Anime Recommendations

Some people have probably already posted these, but a few great ones are:

Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood-The second series of Fullmetal Alchemist and follows the manga. You watch two boys trying to regain the Philosopher's Stone and get back what they lost. You will laugh, cry, and follow the tales of the two heroes known as Edward Elric and Alphonse Elric.
Episode number: 64

Death Note- A young boy named Light is wanting to put the world out of crimes and soon gets help from a Shinigami. As him and L are put in a battle of the brains, you'll find out who comes on top.
Episode number: 37

Jyu-Oh-Sei: Planet of the Beast King- I really have no words for this one. You see two twins Thor and Rai trying to survive on a planet called Chimera and see who will become the Beast King.
Episode number: 11
