Re: Dragonball Z/GT

just finished watching the bebi saga of DBGT.wasnt tooooooooo bad but still lacked in a couple of things.

i had absolutely no qualms against making goku an ssj4-i was thinking, by all means plz do so-but FOR GOD'S SAKE, at least make his ssj appearance better.
from far it looks as if hes wearing this red jumper but when you get up close you see he has red fur all over his body-ewwwww! + they also did away with the usual golden ssj hairstyle-TRAITORS!

another thing i disliked about ssj4 was the fact that whenever a person gained a higher ssj level for the first time in the previous series-it was supposed to be an awe-inspiring,landmark event in which that person was supposed to be SUPER-POWERFUL-but sadly in GT what they did was, immediately after making goku ssj4 they brought on a new, more powerful enemy right away!!!-ruining the significance of the massive achievement goku had just made-it was frustrating as HELL!
(i know goku did become more powerful than bebi in the end-but its always the first time that matters when reaching a new ssj level)

Re: Dragonball Z/GT

I love DBZ! It is seriously one of my favourite cartoons ever! Yes, it's a boys cartoon but girls are allowed to like it too

I've seen some DragonBall which is cute and all of GT but neither measure of to DBZ. So sad it had to end. My favourite chracters are Vegeta, Trunks and Gohan (of course).

Re: Dragonball Z/GT

My 2 cents on DBZ: It was fantastic up till the end of the Cell Saga. After that...it was horrible. The main reason for my line of thinking is that throughout the series Gohan was slowly getting more and more powerful and more and more glimpses of his true power were shown. Then there was a climax at the Cell Saga when only Gohan was strong enough to defeat Cell (I believe that Gohan has greater potential than Goku). The Cell Saga ended with Goku's death, with him effectively handing the reins of protector of Earth to Gohan, his son.

But the Buu Saga destroyed that completely. Not only does Goku come back but more powerful than ever. All this Saiyan Fusions begin to pop up...Gohan gets a brief focus as Mystic Gohan but he doesnt end up doing much...in the end Goku destroys Buu, completely antithetical to the previous sagas.

And don't even get me started on GT. But that's for another post.

Re: Dragonball Z/GT

I actually agree with you. The sagas before Buu were definitely best. When Cell was defeated, I fully expected the series to follow Gohan from then on. The Buu saga was okay (I mean, it was better than GT, right?) but it never really lived up to the pre-Buu stuff.

Argh, I thought this was only a rumour. I really don't see how they would pull off a live-action DBZ movie. I'd watch it but I highly doubt it will do the series justice. I wonder which actors they will be getting in to play the characters..?

This'll be the second live-action movie to come out. There was one other done back in the early 90s, I think. It was a Chinese movie.

To be quite honest, I'm scared to watch the Live Action movie... I love Dragon Ball so much, I don't want them to ruin the franchise for me... And I can't think of any way to make a DB action movie work.

Do we know if they're doing Cell, Freezer or Buu saga?

That's interesting, I didn't know that.

I know what you mean about being scared. I honestly can't see them making a good quality live action film. Anyway, here is the IMDb page. It looks like they are doing something from Dragon Ball (I'm not as familiar with that series as I am DBZ so not sure which saga etc...)

I don't think it was really a Dragon Ball movie, but a movie based on the legend that Dragon Ball is based on.

It sounds like the last saga in Dragon Ball, which is right before DBZ. King Piccolo was the final villain for the canon stuff in Dragon Ball and Goku defeats him, but before he died, King Piccolo spat out an egg, which is the Piccolo you see in Dragon Ball Z. Then again, after that saga, there was the Piccolo Jr. Saga, who participates in the tournament. May be it's a combination of those two sagas.

Oh, and by "last canon saga", I meant non-filler. After the Piccolo Jr. saga, there's a short filler arc, that was quite fun. It's about Goku and Chichi up to the time that they get married. After they get married, years pass and then DBZ starts up with the Saiya-jin saga.

It'll be interesting to see if this can actually be pulled off. I like Dragon Ball way more than I do Z and GT, and, imo, Dragon Ball would be easier to do. It was a bit more simplistic, no unnecessary power leveling, no Super Saiya-jin stuff, and it had real martial arts and skill.

Re: Dragonball Z/GT

It's sad how obsessed I was with this show. I watched it every day it came on. And I remember that there were seven or six crystal balls and that the evil purple lady wanted to steal them and they couldn't let her or she'd get all powerful.

It's kind of vague now, I haven't seen it in a long time.

I'm watching it all right now. I recorded it years ago. At the moment they're fighting Vegeta. It is always weird to see them so weak, when you are used to them being Super Saiyajins. I like the the the development of Gohan. Getting from a whiny child to a great warrior.

Re: Dragonball Z/GT

Terrific cartoon, but a few major flaws.

I love the Cell Saga. The whole Android Menace story was extremely well written, and had enough twists in the plot to make for an exciting series. The character of Gohan was well fleshed out, and Trunks is also pretty good. Cell is also one of the best cartoon villans ever, right after the Shredder from TMNT or Skeletor from the He-Man series!!

The voices are also excellent and suit the characters well. Vegeta's gruff voice, Goku's 'I am always so carefree' voice, etc.

The major flaws are just this - that 1) The episodes are always too long drawn out. Sometimes the plot doesn't even progress for 4-5 episodes. That is why I feel the whole DBZ series should be watched in one go....watching just 1-2 episodes a day makes you wait in frustration for a long time.

Take the Goku vs. Frieza saga...

Narrator - The Planet's gonna blow in 2 mins!!

15 episodes later...

Narrator - STILL 1.5 minutes left for the planet to blow!!

Made me laugh. Seriously long drawn out.

2) The whole idea of using the Dragonballs to resurrect and correct all wrongs is silly. It would seem as though the Z Warriors go past so many battles, lose so much, only to have everything restored back to normal in one go!! That renders the whole cause of fighting and struggling to defeat evil as quite an afterthought.

However, I enjoy the series. Vegeta is by far my favorite character. Cell too ranks at the top.

Re: Dragonball Z/GT

The series was drawn out because the anime and the manga (when being released in Japan) was released too close together. They had to extend the anime, so that the manga could stay ahead of it.

As for the Dragon Ball thing, well, at least there were limitations and such on how many times one could be wished back from death using them. Characters like Kuririn and the Turtle Elder are two who couldn't be wished back if death fell upon them since they'd died once in Dragon Ball. The rule was that you could only be wished back once if that happened. I guess that's why we had to get that Namek saga which led into the Freiza saga. Seems past there, they kept trying to find ways around that little rule.

I used to love DBZ when I was a bit younger. It used to annoy me so much how it took ages for the sagas to progress though. Seriously, how look does it take to power up a spirit bomb or whatever they're called.

And how many times can people die and come back.

"Genki dama!!!" lol I like how they say that.

Anyway, the reason the sagas in DBZ were so long was because of its manga. They had to extend the arcs to keep the manga ahead. The manga (which has always been called "Dragon Ball") started in 1984; the anime, beginning with Dragon Ball, started in 1986. It's only a two year gap. To my knowledge, by the time the DBZ stuff started up, anime wise (1989 - 1996), the anime had pretty much caught up to its manga, and that's when a lot of the filler started. Seems DBZ is only guilty of this. I don't recall Dragon Ball having as much filler as DBZ did.

In Dragon Ball, it was only once with Earth's Dragon Ball's, but of course, a loophole was found with the whole Namekian Dragon Ball stuff. Goku was a fan favorite, hence why Toriyama kept finding ways to bring Goku back.

I remember when I mourned Vegeta's death and my friend just rolled eyes at me and said that I perfectly know that he will come back. They all come back from death over and over and over again. Is there even a character who died for good? And with the Black Star Dragonballs they make it really easy now.

I love Dragon Ball Z. I have the entire series plus movies. Matter of fact I'm watching it now as we speak. I love DragonBall too.

GT I can't stand. I don't like the way they made Trunks, Goten,etc.... I don't like the way ended. How can everyone just lose touch like that?

I think it should have been the next generation period in GT.

Aside from character design, Toriyama had nothing to do with GT. It was all original, meaning, none of it is technically canon, as the manga doesn't go that far. It ends after the Buu Saga.

As I mentioned on the first page of this thread, I liked the premise of GT since it was going back to its Dragon Ball roots. An adventure series. I enjoyed the Dragon Ball-like aspects of it. What bugged me about GT was how it started getting more and more DBZ like with the power levels and all that.

That's the only part I liked in it, the dragonball's aspect of it. Other than that nothing. I have the 1st set of the DVD's but I don't want to collect the rest and don't think I will.
