CoSForums Styles

Please post any comments/suggestions regarding the CoS themes in this thread.

Anyway, we have a new style for you all. The awesome new HBP theme made by our very own Katze.

Thank you for all the hard work Katze! It rocks!! :D :tu:

Moriath October 23rd, 2005 10:50 pm

Fabulous work Katze, I'm loving the new theme.

Vita October 23rd, 2005 11:17 pm

Very cool! I like it alot... I assume there is a bug or two to work out because of *** blue "quick response" box? Or is that just my computer... Good work :)

Lucybird October 23rd, 2005 11:24 pm

Wow that's cool.

Oh and I have a more general comment to make is there anyway we could get expanded on other styles? (Not just standard?) Because I like havig the expanded page, but I'd like a bit of variety to, not to fussed though.

Ali October 23rd, 2005 11:27 pm

Evita, fixed the color. :)

Lucybird, have you seen the switch in the Magical Me, options page?

Scroll to the bottom. Look for "Forum Width".

NYCwitch920 October 23rd, 2005 11:35 pm

I love the dark green. Great work, Katze! :D

TaraBrady October 23rd, 2005 11:41 pm

The Halloween one (from last year)... is sort of orange. I'll put it up sometime next week.

Jessica October 24th, 2005 3:03 am

Awesome job Katze!

Paul October 24th, 2005 3:06 am

Love it great job Katze!!

FirefightingMuggle October 24th, 2005 3:26 am

Wow, thanks, Katze! You are awesome.

DarkSphynx October 24th, 2005 7:23 pm

Wonderful new layout, Katze - great job! Thanks! :D

Mireille October 24th, 2005 8:59 pm

I wouldn't have expected anything less from you, Katze. Wonderful as always. :D

guad October 24th, 2005 8:59 pm

Green is my favourite colour.
I think I will need some time to get used to it.

Pegasus October 24th, 2005 9:05 pm

Green and purple are mine. This is perfect. It matches the family room walls I recently faux-painted.

Katze October 25th, 2005 5:15 am

Thanks everyone. I had a fun time designing it. :)

And thanks to Ali for some tweaks and installation :D

runitsandrew October 25th, 2005 5:24 am

You're my hero, Katze.

Jinxie Cat October 25th, 2005 8:51 am

Groovy job. :tu::D

kingwidgit October 25th, 2005 7:55 pm

WOW! This is awesome...I normally use the Gryffindor style because the white lettering on the other styles trigger migraines...but this is wonderful! Great job, Katze!

[off topic bad prefect] Does it really? Maybe I shouldn't go back to stylemarillon. Migraines suck. [/off topic bad prefect]

Er. yay Katze!

I've found that the light text on the dark background triggers headaches, but not necessarily migraines. I think it's because most of the websites I go do have the opposite, and so the change back and forth hurts my eyes. I'd been using the COS Lite because of this until two days ago when Ali installed the HBP style.

SageThyme October 25th, 2005 9:34 pm

Great job, Katze!

It goes great with my siggy and avatar - I'm now color-coordinated.:D

For me that kind of problems decreased quite considerably when I got a flat screen. Makes getting brilliance and contrast right a lot easier. I've been happy with stylemarillion since then.

Besanamo October 27th, 2005 7:23 pm

Great job on the new style, Katze! :tu:
And I agree with Alastor D that flat screen doesn't hurt the eyes as much. I like to switch between styles every couple of days, but the new one is definetly one of the ones I like the best.

Paul October 28th, 2005 10:39 am

When editing a post the time that the message was originally posted is hard to read with the new style. Other then that I love it.

Ali October 28th, 2005 1:10 pm

How long is it going to be available?

Wandering Bard October 28th, 2005 4:16 pm

What browser are you using? (and what OS?)

GodricHollow October 28th, 2005 5:11 pm

I suppose mini Dark Marks are pigs to create for the "New Posts In This Area" markers then?

IE i think they call it. Unfortunately I don't know what OS means. Anyway, as far as i know, there is nothing except the security program which doesn't come from Microsoft.

GodricHollow October 28th, 2005 5:15 pm

OS = Operating System. Windows 2000, XP, 98SE (I doubt it's that last one but still)...

OS = Operating System... but I think you're using a MAC, right? In which case, I'm not sure what can be done about it.

GodricHollow, the paperclip indicates whether there is an attachment in a thread.

GodricHollow October 28th, 2005 5:18 pm

Eh? What? I was talking about those indistinguishable things on the left of the page when you're on the main page.

Ali October 28th, 2005 5:22 pm

Not sure what you're talking about then.

Katze October 28th, 2005 5:29 pm

If I'm reading you correctly GH, those are pensieves.

Windows 98 second edition with some 41 updates missing (I'm too lazy to download things that are not related to security) But never mind, I can live with it.

GodricHollow October 28th, 2005 5:33 pm

Got one of those in my room but it's not got internet access so I can't comment on that bit, must be rather dodgy though, does your screen keep going yellow by any chance?

Alastor D, try to install the updates (the ones related to IE, in particular) and see if that sorts out the problem.

Great skin Ali, how long will it be up?

Kimmetje October 29th, 2005 1:25 am

I just realized there was a HBP back ground. I love the Hallloween one! I had it last year too and it's just so wicked.

Tenshi October 31st, 2005 2:40 pm

:wow: Wow guys the Halloween style is really the best so far. :D

For how long will we be able to use it?

Morgoth October 31st, 2005 4:01 pm

Halloween style will be up for a week or so I guess, maybe longer. Up to the Wizking, really.

Liselle October 31st, 2005 4:16 pm

The halloween layout is spiffing! Nicely done :tu:

Miss_Gaunt October 31st, 2005 4:22 pm

Are you going to do a Yule style? A GoF style for the movie? A magical beast style would be nice, with dragons, hippogryffs, centaurs...
Anyway, congratulations, good job :)

Mrs_Dobby October 31st, 2005 5:38 pm

Anything else you'd like? Please dont hesitate to ask. :p (just messing)

The Halloween style you see was made last year. I'm at Uni now so my time is very limited.

Dont wanna promise and not deliver later on, but we'll see.

I'm sure I can remember there being a Christmas style last year... but maybe I'm going crazy!

Scheherezade November 1st, 2005 12:35 am

One question that I'm not sure has been asked before - but why don't the pictures change in the house styles (just curious it doesn't have to, I know it'll take tonnes of work to do so)?

Ali November 1st, 2005 12:45 pm

It wasnt quite feasible at the time it was made. I'll add it on my long list of things to do, but no promises.

IC_Thestrals November 1st, 2005 3:31 pm

I guess I am the oddball who likes white text on dark backgrounds. For some reason it is the only kind I can see (it shows up on the monitor I just can't physically see the dark texts). Great job on these though, I was shocked when I logged on and the pumpkin thingy was reaching for me. Spooky!

I think a style for every holday would be awsome, so you can get in the mood for Eater ot Christmas, or whatever it is. Also, a style for every movie or book would be cool.

I'd try clearing your cache that often fixes any style problems I come across.

I have the same problem! I haven't even used the HBP theme before...
I used the standard forum style, but I changed it a few minutes ago to "COS Forums" because I didn't like the christmas style that is used as standard skin right now (I like dark skins on forums) so I had the original skin back but it turns into HBP skin when I go into a forum!

Actually the christmas layout is currently still up, so you can try it out.

Re: CoSForums Styles [Christmas style is up]

I love the Christmas style, it is one of a few that I can acutually use and see on my computer, seeing as my monitor shows things up very dark, to the point of not being able to read anything. Otherwise, I have to use the default lite, and personally, I don't think it is so much fun. So althought I don't believe the Christmas style will stay up indefinately, know that I am enjoying it while it is here. I will look forward to perhaps having another fun, light forum stlye for those of us where the darker skins just don't work either because of our equipment or our vision. Thank you.

Besanamo January 30th, 2006 12:31 am

Re: CoSForums Styles [Christmas style is up]

Klynnrose, I have the same sort of problem with vision and such. Besides christmas and CoS light style, I recommend the Ravenclaw style. It works very well for me without my glasses, even at night.

Ali February 1st, 2006 12:48 pm

Re: CoSForums Styles [Christmas style is up]

A light forum layout is on my to-do list . Wont say when, but I will hopefully start on the design process in the very near future.

I think they mean with the colours of GoF, and only pictures from the movie. I would use that, anyone else?

Re: CoSForums Styles [Christmas style is up]

A big thank you to TheWizard and Besanamo. I don't know if I have tried the Ravenclaw layout, it might work, thank you for the suggestion. And a huge thank you for even considering working on a lighter forum layout design. The fact that you have it on your "to-do list" is an amazing thought. No pressure, take your time and enjoy the process. I am certain that those of us who use it will love the fact that it is there. Again, thank you. I didn't expect any of that, just commenting that the Christmas style is nice and fun and works for me. *looking forward to the new lighter design*

Evreka February 15th, 2006 11:32 pm

Re: CoSForums Styles [Christmas style is up]

OK, I hope this is the right thread...

I'm going through all themes to see which one I'd like to use. And then I notice that specifically Ravenclaw and Slytherin's banners don't cover the top. They start about 1/3 of the window width from the left frame, and runs off outside the window! No other banners do this, so I assume there's some bug somewhere. I'm on IE v 5.50 (yeah, I know, crappy browser). But all other top banners in the other skins starts where they are supposed to, so it can't very well be my browser, can it?

Any way, now you know. :)
